A correspondent writes us that to see some of the tiny tots pretending to be the"bloofer lady" is supremely funny. Some of our caricaturists might, he says, take a lesson in the irony of grotesque by comparing the reality and the picture. It is only in accordance with general principles of human nature that the "bloofer lady" should be the popular role at these al fresco performances.

Personally I would have annexed Gaza (and the West bank too for good measure) and made everyone there a citizen. Then treat any terrorists as common criminals and punish them to the full extent of the law. This would also solve the Haredim problem in one fell swoop (or at least delay it for two generations) and crush the Israeli far right because now there are an extra two million people who'll never vote for them.
In this scenario everyone wins except for the terrorists and far right nutters; both of which are groups that deserve to have a boot stamping on their face for eternity.

Why would changing from yourself to your daughter being in the forest change anything? The bear is far more dangerous in either case (assuming we're talking about an average male human vs average bear) and can't be reasoned with. If anything your daughter is better placed to charm the man and get him to sacrifice himself for her if needs be than you are.
On the other hand if the comparison is between a particularly dumb human vs Yogi Bear then I would go with the bear...

I have more disposable income than most middle class americans and I would still do this. Not because of the small savings, but because of the principle. Even though it may be irrational from a cost benefit point of view my job (which in turn influences my view of the world) is basically about buying as cheaply as possible and selling for as much as possible and something deep down in me would be hurt if I didn't do this.

Don't even have to be blank slatist here. Modern armies have multiple logistics and support personnel behind each solider, many of which are jobs that don't require strength. Women can be conscripted to work those jobs and free up men to go fight on the frontline. The fact that they are not being done so suggests an attitude of valuing female life more than male life rather than mere blank slatism.

It’s not just that horniness is embarrassing. The level of cringe was much greater that, say, merely catching your friend picking someone up at the bar for a one-night stand. The idea that you watch porn instead of actually getting laid makes you - in the eyes of much of society - a loser.

Yep. It's non selective and draws its pupils from a known poor area full of poor people. It's not somewhere I'd want to send my future children too (it would stifle them) but its policies and ethos are excellent for turning little shits (who have nothing in them to be stifled in the first place) into decent if unremarkable members of society, I want to see 100x of these schools all over the country.

Interesting. My original assumption was the the headteacher was preventing someone from praying out of her own volition (bad), but in this case I can see why the headteacher wanted such a policy (and would support her in it).
So all meals are vegetarian, to prevent conflict between vegetarians and meat-eaters.
This makes perfect sense. I don't think the fault line in particular the school wished to avoid was meat/no-meat (in that case why not take it further and make everything vegan?) but rather the desire to avoid catering to special religious dietary requirements like halal/kosher which would again give the studnets somethign to tribalize over. Removing meat entirely from the menu is a particularly elegant solution here.

Oh boy, It's way too late for me on that front, I'm already 80%+ western at this moment in time and I'd expect my future trajectory won't shift me much from here. Plus it's not like the West doesn't have a lot of good things going for it, it's just that Westerners don't need to be told about them because they already follow them to some extent. They need to be told about the good things they don't yet subscribe to.
My preferred system is not the one we have back home, it's a syncretic mix of that and the western system, biased if anything more towards the western way.
