Neither psychologist nor RL people I talked with seem to believe that this is literally how the human mind works, because this leads you to the suspicious conclusion that the thousands of simple RL models people train for e.g. homework are also experiencing immense sufferring. Yes there is a vaguely RL-like layer of our brain, but RL itself does not conscious experience make. Unless of course you have some very heavy philosophical machinery to convince us otherwise...

There's a lot of pointless sufferring that is a useless signal. Evolution just isn't smart enough to distinguish. Besides, if "I should react to reduce this pain" is a useful idea on an individual level, why shouldn't there be cases where it is also useful on a collective one? E.g. "torture is bad, ceteris paribus"
Bees can't do anything about their condition when being farmed. Why is suffering a useful signal to them? Why should it be preserved?
If there was a cost-free way to make bees not suffer at all while farmed, wouldn't you press the button?

Bosnia is just a bunch of Croats and Serbs who converted to avoid taxes. Demographics matter too. Iranians are quite distinct from Arabs as well. Highest IQ people in ME bar the Askenazi ofc.

Think of it this way: you've missed out on a bit, sure, but AI progressing so fast right now, that the value you left on the table so far is really insignificant compared to what you can get at any point you decide to jump in.

I'm sorry but Master and Margarita is one of the most fun, funny, and colorful books I've read in my life. Considered a Russian masterpiece, at least where I'm from. Also they explore a much wider breadth of themes than just "sufferring". But fair, the true old Russian classics are in Realism, which, due to the nature of the genre and Russian society at that time obviously includes a lot of suffering.

That would be a terrible law. Human driver's exams are made to filter out bad human drivers. The kinds of mistakes humans make are not the same as those made by AI. By virtue or being human, you can assume with high confidence that the examinee will not make whole classes of fatal errors, while you can not yet assume that of AI drivers.
They may be good enough now, it's just that the standard you propose is not a good filter.

If you believe more people have died in a week of Iranian protests than in 6 months of the largest European war since WW2 your assessment of the situation is questionable, to be polite.
