Thanks for sending - I hadn’t seen the second video, although I had seen the first - which is what I initially described as fisty cuffs - people fighting to get through the barricades but then the violence disappearing once through.

It’s definitely a dishonest comparison from you to compare the left’s rioting with the right’s, but fair to suggest that it should still nonetheless be disavowed as it definitely crossed a serious line.

I watched all of the live streams as this unfolded.

I’m so confused because none of the violence referenced in your links was at all observable on any of the livestreams.

The only actual violence, that increased past the point of pushing and shoving - fisty cuffs, if you will - was that of Ashleigh Babbit who was shot as she tried to climb through a barricaded door.

It almost seems to have appeared post-hoc. Do you have any video evidence of any of this? It seems near certain that there would have been given how much was filmed.

Total estimated cost at 2.7billion… god someone did well out of this. From what I saw, I would have guessed several hundred thousand - a few million at most.

And within the context of twin studies, those are?

What is that worldview?

I think you’re failing to decouple two separate penalties here.

They are being deported for being illegal; they are being sent to prison in El Salvador for being a member of MS13.

Yes, I agree that it is cruel to imprison an individual in harsh conditions for entering a country illegally, but it is probably both reasonable and necessary, by some measure, to do so if they are a violent gang member.

Oh… I know you’re not going to believe me, but I feel I have to say this for your mental health.

They will be fine. You have literally no reason to worry that Trump is going to deport them to El Salvadorian prisons. You have no reason to worry about anything other than that they may not be able to use their preferred bathroom or may not be able to receive hormones through Medicare anymore. Whilst I imagine those things matter to them, they’re not a big deal in the grand scheme of things and mirror the kind of frustrations that near all other people in the USA have to deal with from time to time.

A bit of an aside, but how did you end up with a network of family and friends who arrived in the US illegally from El Salvador after having to leave due to pst affiliations with MS13?

Like that’s a very strange scenario, and I’m wondering what circumstances landed you in a situation like that?

Don Lemon was on Maher’s podcast and argued that character’s like AOC hold the future of the Democratic Party in their hands. I’ve seen this sentiment echoed elsewhere from other well connected democrat-operatives within the media.

It galls me that someone would believe that the democrats lost because they ran with candidates that cynically pushed woke talking points and instead the party’s future will be saved by candidates that actually believe those same woke talking points.

Whilst cynicism is always an ugly trait when trying to win hearts and minds, it was actually a point in favour in comparison to genuinely promoting wokism - at least from the perspective of your average voter.

I understand your point, but common sense isn’t meant to be categorical, but rather a heuristic or a kind of null hypothesis.

We go with the common sense approach until there’s good evidence to the contrary.

Whilst I appreciate your point that some people may allow bias to bleed into what they deem common sense, if you use the heuristic laid out my cjet79 common sense is a valid approach and we should be sceptical of people or institutions that caste it aside without proper evidence.

Tbh, I don’t think we’re disagreeing here; maybe just talking past each other a little.

I would say the heuristic understanding common sense is applying the same standards used for non-political or non-controversial interventions to the interventions that are most controversial and politically entwined.

To be direct about it, that seems to be the literal meaning behind the phrase “common sense”; it is the sense making applied most commonly.

That seems to be the heuristic that cjet79 is applying so I’m confused as to why you’d disagree. Am I misunderstanding something?

I definitely don’t agree - why validate such bizarre slander with a genuine reply?

I’m steadfast in the belief that no one actually holds the opinion that Elon did a nazi salute. I’m confident that everyone who has watched the video is well aware that he was gesturing “my heart goes out to you”.

The continued accusation that “no, it was in fact a nazi salute” is just a performance; it’s said only to try to anger you opponents and motivate your base, and not to try to accord with reality.

To me, that sounds like trolling. So you know, if you’re being trolled you have two responses: “lol” or troll back.

I don’t understand how a tweet mocking the accusations as ridiculous is proof that the accusations are true?

I think people were riled up because they felt their voice within a democracy was being suppressed via extra-judicial means (e.g. Twitter files and similar machinations within its orbit; aggressive legal persecution of Trump; debanking and deplatforming of voices or platforms that served their ends)

Whether this is a truly accurate representation of reality may beg whether the movement is truly democratic or not, but the motivation to have a political movement fairly represented within a democracy is unquestionably pro-democracy, no?

But isn’t the point that H1-B visas disincentivise US companies from investing in and training up native talent… which OP’s comment seems to support?

It’s a strange counterfactual where a man in his 80s with lung cancer would be living this great life 4 years later if only he had just taken an almost laughably ineffective vaccine…

Do you not think that your grandfather perhaps wanted to live out his few remaining years in dignity, rather than fear?

“I’m going to die within 2 years anyway, let’s do so standing rather than on my back”.

This was the express intent communicated to me by my grandma and my friend said the same about his grandma.

So women never discuss politics in female-only spaces? Is it just make-up and which boys they have a crush on then?
