the hard times were going to create strong men

I'm pretty sure that's been fairly strongly debunked.

I mean, you certainly couldn't play Counter-Strike without someone saying quite an awful lot about your private life. And your mom's private life, too, for that matter.

some of the people I see holding firmly to the view that a six year old can know their gender and be rock-solid on they're a girl not a boy

I mean, I would imagine there'd be no problem with a six year old girl assigned female at birth who's adamant that she's a girl and not a boy (and that it'd be horrible parenting to insist that no, she really is a boy, she just needs to wait until she grows up and she'll understand that she's been a boy all along), and same for a boy assigned male who's sure that he's a boy, for instance.

I think a unique element of progressivism is, I’m not sure whether it’s dogmatism but I think there is a relatively unique tendency to not distinguish between values/opinions and fact. i just don’t find progressives often framing their convictions as opinions.

I think you really need to back this up in some way, if you're going to claim that progressives are unique (or uniquely bad) at this. I'm sure most people would make this claim about those they disagree with.

What point in time would you say it was nicer, aside from (appropriately enough) Tolkien-style longing for the countryside? I'd assume England, like the US, has been generally improving in quality of life and various crime metrics.

I am tremendously salty about the lack of PC port.

I suggest you remember the maine instead.

The spontaneous coal combustion?

Thats what I'd been hearing - impeachment articles (whether or not it goes through) would be a trade for not shutting down the government.

I'm assuming the body types were for animation purposes, but I personally was very happy with the hair options. It's nice to actually have a few basic ponytails to pick from.

I guess it fell victim to the successive wave of fads against carbs and grains

Or it just was getting outcompeted for shelf space by the chocolate frosted sugar bombs.

Saying 'From the river to the sea' doesn't neccessarily require violence

In the same way that "blood and soil" could just be a call to recognize the efforts of hard-working small farmers. But if its used by protestors in the immediate aftermath of a horrible attack by a group of white supremacists who are known to have used it as their own slogan... at that point, I feel like using it and claiming innocence is ignorance at best.

Will Al-Shifa be the turning point, one way or another? Or will nothing change? If the IDF takes the hospital, and there are tunnels there, will anyone change their tune, or will it be "Well, the IDF was telling the truth this one time, but they still shouldn't have killed babies"? If there are no tunnels, will Israel back off and end their campaign in shame (their own and the US intelligence community's), or will they try to brazen it out and assume no real net change in total hatred for them? If Hamas blows the tunnels and collapses the area to avoid giving Israel evidence, will anyone accept that it wasn't an Israeli bomb?

Or am I overestimating the importance of this one battle and the massive accompanying news coverage?

Again, though, we're back to the question of why it is that "not surrendering when you're invaded" is "Western warmongering".

I think the Sierra Club was anti nuclear (among other reasons) because it would allow for increased third-world population.

I can agree with that. My gut instinct is that a lot of people don't like white men, but that's a far cry from "let's change the race of characters just to make them mad."

Ithaca: Eternal shithole, long has been, long will be. Those who must live there deserve nothing but pity. I’ve heard it’s even worse now, but how that’s possible is beyond me. 100.

I assume this is the part where you're taking the piss. Ithaca's always struck me as a very nice place, whenever I've gone there to visit family. Or is there a different Ithaca, one that doesn't host Cornell?

The significance is that for many on the right (think of those who listened to Rush on occasion, but weren't necessarily Maga types), they'd prefer the constitution being changed for four more years of Bill Clinton over Hillary being elected. Far from being an asset, she was almost uniquely disliked.

kidnapping

How do you figure?

As one historian put it, the NAUTILUS was Admiral Rickover's pyramid.

Was that really twerking, though? The clips I saw at least were reasonable flute playing (certainly not to the level of Lindsay Sterling).

The admin building wouldnt be the same as your username, would it?

My 5e group is between games at the moment, and I'm hoping to find/run a group with a different system. 3.5, Pathfinder, Numenera, Traveller, Wolves of God... you name it, just something different from 5e.

It's going to be interesting to see which way the culture war swings on this one. On the one hand, I've seen a lot of rumblings because Tiktok is (generally) pro-Palestine. On the other hand, Trump.

The only exception is when the argument for legality is frivolous, which this one was not, given that the final vote in the Supreme Court was 6-3.

The obvious counter-argument there is a claim that partisan justices gonna' partisan, and the breakdown has no bearing on frivolity as opposed to politics.

I mostly agree, but Plato's death seemed to me to be a righteous way to go.
