I’m be read The Malazan Book of the Fallen 3x now and am just waiting it out a few more years until my next read through. I’ll include his other books set in the universe next time as well. It’s my favorite series, and really my favorite piece of entertainment.
I started with Stephen King at 10/11 or so but didn’t read the Gunslinger saga until my late 20’s and still haven’t read the last 50 or so pages. I stopped one day and wanted to savor the ending … and then just never went back? I love all of the standard King novels but especially Insomnia.
Then quickly moved on the Sword of Truth and then Wheel of Time. I’ve read both twice. For WoT I didn’t read the ending written by Sanderson yet, and for SoT I stopped reading after book ten I think. I want to re-read both again but I think maybe I’ll let it lay until retirement. They both have many slug filled … hundreds of pages at a time.
All of The Black Company books. I would rank these second to Malazan for me. They’re Malazan light even I would say. I love how fast and readable they are and love all of the various crews and hijinks they get up to.
Tad Williams has two fanatic trilogies in Memory, Sorrow, and Thorn books that’s more fantasy typical and Otherland which is more sci fi and is 4 books. I’ve never read this one again but it’s stuck with me for going on 25 years now.
The Black Jewels Trilogy really had an impact on my sexual thoughts as a youngster, for better or worse.
That’s off the top of my head. There’s like 12-15 trilogies I’ve read and can’t recall tbh. I’ll have to walk through a 90’s B&N and rekindle my thoughts.
Ship of Magic by Robin Hobb - whom I somehow never read while devouring hundreds of fantasy novels in my teens and twenties, and whom I had no idea was a woman until recently.
It really is a big world out there.
Read first 100 pages today - really pretty good.
Sounds like it’s an opportunity to test yourself in a new environment. Also, pick up some chicken and rice and beans and some containers and prep a bit. Actively tell your parents about what you’re doing and why. He’ll grab a cheap grill and have some fun and better tasting food.
Have fun!
But I don’t think we have a smart and capable Congress and we have them fattening themselves up.
I do feel slightly bad about giving zero fucks about the things Trump and his clan are doing compared to what the Dems have done recently. Almost I feel like it’s a ‘ well the doors open now ‘ so motorboat away whole heartedly.
I guess I never much cared about Hunter Biden getting paid as much as I cared that people were lying about it and calling me a ring winger or even Nazi or stupid for ‘ believing ‘ that anything shady was going on.
Now that I write that out, that’s definitely the issue. I see what corruption is, and so does everyone else, for the most part. Being gaslit is what makes me start giving a care.
That’s actually a shockingly small list from the NYT so maybe Trump isn’t pulling a Ceaser.
I’m honestly having a hard time finding the truth in your post here when it comes to the thoughts of others.
It seems like all the attributions you are giving to Israel (killing as many people as possible, the population wants to kill as many of them as possible, they’re only not due to reasons, the people on the ground say so) are just actually true about Hamas and Palestine whereas they could be true about Israel if you squinted hard enough and ignored the people doing the saying.
I don’t really see how I’m an Israeli apologists when I shrug my shoulders and go ‘ yea, they deserve this - that’s what happens in a war … this has happened tens of thousands of times before’ and this time it’s actually completely deserved.
Thanks for the heads up!
Had no idea.
My probably annoying way of talking about myself and a group of people I tangentially relate to
Like, I’m with the OP making light of religion - but it doesn’t mean I find him funny or correct
The second one being a colloquial of people who grew up in the 90’s
Everyone wants a Coke
I feel like the line is between the West and China about how to get there and if I had to pick which way to lean, it’s on the trans non binary future side
Yea - the church will succumb one day
That’s fair
Finding contradictions in religion is said 12-23 year old atheist phase imo
And like you wrote, made worse when it’s not even correct
Ok but then every other war ever is due to religious reasons?
If we had the same machinery during the Crusades, WWI & II would be barely a blip in the awe of massacre.
Tiny human tribes have been killing other tiny human tribes with the justification of religion since forever - you don’t get to point at the last century and say well look what you godless fucks have done!
You didn’t cuz you couldn’t! (Obviously not you or yours - just the palette of history)
Mocking the church is my god given right.
I’ve stopped being an annoying atheist because I’m no longer aged 12-23, but, come on, this stuff is still funny.
Or it’s extremely sad and pathetic.
I choose the funny route.
The mistake people always make is telling ((us)) that we don’t understand the history, the theology, the nuance, the glory, the what have you.
I understand why it bothers you, I do, but that doesn’t take into account how much bother religion has been to ((us)) in our own lifetimes.
You try to rule our life, and we mock you, that’s a fair exchange at this point imo. You’re no longer chopping off our heads, and we mock you a bit. What’s the issue, seriously?
I hope you persevere until the threat of Islam is pacified, and the threat of communism, and I hope you never ordain trans non binary furies as Cardinals.
But you will - and it’ll be kinda funny.
- antioxidants
I use a tablespoon with my decaf green tea, mint, 1/2 lemon every night just about
I grill 2-3x a week and smoke with my electric smoker 1-2x a week.
I used one of those chimneys for charcoal for a few years but now I’m back to lighter fluid.
I use a Weber and (I’ll look at the brand if you want but any of the 199$ ones are mostly fine) electric smoker.
Buy a fish basket or veggie basket or two.
My best recipe:
Cherry tomatoes, mushrooms, red onion, pablona peppers, sweet baby peppers, kielbasa tossed in olive oil and Sazon Completa seasoning.
Grill it in a basket for 4 minutes a side on the charcoal side.
Eat.
No one has not lived it - ever.
Leftover for breakfast with scrambled eggs.
Most impressive:
Whole snapper. Have the market clean a small to medium snapper, run her down with olive oil and your imagination of spices and herbs (garlic salt , black pepper , cilantro to start) and grill for 3-5 minutes a side on the charcoal side.
Ribeye:
Worshershire, garlic salt, black pepper
Grill on the charcoal side until as ‘ burnt ‘ as you like and grill it to a tad over medium so the fat renders.
Get a meat thermometer.
What about raw honey ?
I’ve played it for a few hours until Expedition 33 took over my time.
I’m unsure if I’ll finish it but I decided to play an archer which I’ve never done but it’s FUN.
If it’s just nostalgia talking I’ll only put a few more hours into it so tbd.
Did the fan base feel Dotson was a pointless addition?
I felt they needed to get a quality WR3 even without the stats.
Playing the new French turn based RPG Expedition 33 - 5 hours in and it is fantastic. A breath of fresh air while also melancholic from the JRPG perspective.
Last game I played like this was Yakuza (three games ago I believe - so 3-4 years since they cranked out a sequel and pirate sequel that I just don’t have time for) which I finished and feel fondly of.
I must be a sucker for turn based JRPGs.
I thought of going because I agree with you that due to the various form of Christianity, humans were led to current Western Society, which is empirically superior to other forms of hmmm humans. As well as because my country of birth (Poland) and entire social upbringing religion meant Christianity.
As the pundits all say, I have a feeling if I were born in Pakistan then maybe I’d go visit their local place of worship for a need of community.
My fear with the fast downturn of Christian faith in Western society is that nothing will hold us fast in the face of upheaval - from Islam to Communism to AI to what have you. There’s no commonality.
Great post - thank you for writing it.
Could you talk more about your actual faith? - as opposed to the woes of the world that have led you back to it?
The church is freaking cool. That’s just a given. Crusades, dope gear, eternal heaven, long ass running institutions, an enemy (or thousands) … I’m not being facetious, all cool things.
But how do you believe? Why do you choose to believe this rather than any Indian thing, and Japanese thing, any anything? Is it just that this is the Western version of something you want?
Your answer doesn’t just have to be about you per se - just maybe your ideas surrounding the entire thing.
Aside from Sam Harris and a few others, I always fairly hated atheists. I probably am one, maybe. Maybe agnostic. Like my music genres, I don’t care - it’s all metal.
However - no religion is correct. And we [[[all]]] (((know))) that. It’s just a tale built upon other tales seemingly and there’s a thousand of them.
I guess I want to know what a man of intelligence has to say about it.
I thought about going to church a few times in the past decade but the dreaded ‘ this isn’t true ‘ always reared its head.
Sweet - thanks!
Book 1 is on my list now after I finish Gates of Fire.
Just read the wiki
Tell me so much more?
Is it good / fun ?
Is this not the position of most of the left? Tax corporations more?
It’s fun to see opinions in real time.
Be boring if we all held our breaths until everything is over.

I have not but after taking a fantasy break, I’m ready to jump back in the large and now massively back logged ocean.
