It reminds me of the time around 2017 I think when the EU was pointedly ignoring the Spanish government arresting pensioners in Barcelona for wanting the chance to vote for Catalan independence while screeching about how the UK was acting like some colonial overlord in Scotland for not allowing them independence, even though they explicitly chose not to in 2014.
