It's good to be back after several months of using alts like /u/exiledouta /u/spacerenrgy2 and others to circumvent a reddit giga fingerprint ban surprisingly not for unsavory Motte style arguments but the drawing of a forbidden orange cat.. @zorbaTHut now that you've had some time to get confidence in the new site's capabilities and limitations what changes if any do you think make sense to the format of the old sub? Still a weekly CW roundup? More than two pins? overhaul of karma system?

Background

The /r/drama subreddit has a long history of being the less politically correct version of /r/subredditdrama. The history of the community in the early days is not really necessary but provides some context to set the stage. As reddit became more and more censorious /r/drama tended to be one of the first places admins would try out their new restrictions, one of the biggest examples was removing the ability to 'ping' users like '/u/skoomadentist' so that they'd get a reddit notification that people were talking about them and wander into the sub to be generally fucked with. This came after a previous moratorium on following links into reddit threads to directly mess with the dramatic happenings(referred to as raiding or brigading) and it later became against to rules to even link directly to other reddit threads on /r/drama.

Eventually dramanaughts had enough of the oppression and founded rdrama.net using and developing the very source code that this site is running.

Event

Fast forward around a year and to most people's surprise the rdrama offsite is actually thriving and has a new mascot Marsey, the orange cat originally from a telegram sticker pack but extended to include thousand of variations by talented dramartists. Reddit holds their /r/place event and dramanaughts snap into action to do a little trolling and get the brand of the site out there. The whole operation is described well in this recap post. The troll is a little meta in that there shouldn't be anything offensive about the cat itself but overly online giga moderators and a couple low laying admins, most notable /u/chtorrr that were most involved in the general censoring of the old /r/drama were very aware of the icon and even though it wasn't explicitly against the rules made a point to try to prevent the icon from forming. In addition to the ability to post pixels without the normal five minute cooldown they deployed some account wide permanent unappealable fingerpriny/ip address bans to people caught placing orange pixels on the dramacat. I was one of those guilty people.

For the same reason we outlived most wrong think subs on reddit we're fairly safe. We just aren't a big enough community for the media to bother with and if the media isn't going to bother then the pressure can only be so great. We can get pushed off reddit because the enemies of open discussions were deeply entrenched in the moderation and admin levels of reddit and they were already doing housekeeping of wrong think bastions at which point all that our enemies need to do is keep reminding the admins of our existence. The wider nets is much more decentralized.

I'm a big blockchain/decentralization fan for reasons like this. Of course there are still system wide attack vectors. What happens when ethereum becomes the chain of dissidents and progchain gets buy in by all the respectable power centers?

But they can stop us is the issue. In both a pos and pow system if freedom chain is small enough it's vulnerable to sybil attacks.

I'm not so sure about the premise that red tribe sees an ar15 as a status symbol, they're not really that expensive, one can be had for a couple hundred bucks which is within reach for basically any gainfully employed American so long as they can get past the legal hurdles. Blinging one out may be a kind of conspicuous consumption that is right coded and sends some kind of red tribe virtue signal. As a parallel to that I think you're looking in the right direction with pride type stuff. I'd say the ar15 of the blue tribe is probably something like drag queen story hour. Red tribe is vaguely against drag shows in general but is aware their critique of the general concept is not popular enough so they contain their push back to only against these less defensible(but still defendable) incarnations. And this push back induces even more demand for it from the opposing tribe.

Clown shoes to be left at the door in this place.

Bears are best animal and very smart. Also they've been known to deplore censors. I once saw a consor attempt to tell a polar bear that it's no different than a black bear and the polar bear ate him.

Hello, all! I've lurked since before there was a Culture War Roundup thread but never posted at all. Thought I would try to help get the new site running, but I don't expect my courage to last.

You've made a very good comment and I encourage you to not let courage be the barrier to your further posting. Those of us making smaller, more mundane, comments can often be the magic catalyst that sparks off truly great comments and discussions. You will at the very worst be forgotten.

I think any attempt to use some generic form of "traditional" or "conservative" is going to be more confusing than enlightening here. It matters quite a bit what the tradition being conserved is.

If you don't offer me an ability to get the content without ads I'm going to find a way to get it without it. I do actually subscribe to premium youtube and a number of services, I think subscription models are nearly as bad as ads and would much prefer to just buy the content outright but we're going back in the direction of many shows/movies having no way to watch them without a service that has ads. Ads are awful and I won't apologize for avoiding them.

I think it's a good thing to compare transgenderism to body dysmorphia and have done so before but we should be careful as most mainstream trans advocates are very much not arguing in terms of merely aesthetic/feeling better about yourself. If the desire was merely to allow for men to bolt on some breasts and max out their femininity while still claiming to be fundamentally men(and vice versa for women) we'd have a very different debate.

There are many things that are very very new that have at least as obvious of an effect, most obvious is widespread cheap birth control, which itself is likely not unrelated to the rise of feminism. There is greatly increased global connectivity and a comensorate reduction in local connectivity. The world is generally more peaceful to most people's experience which is in most ways a boon but could very well erode the cohesion of communities and thus family formation.

My point is that if we're trying to figure out why tons of very different cultures are having this issue it doesn't seem like a good idea to first reach for a cultural reason. It's much easier for the Japanese to be disrupted by our products than our culture.

Name one country without pizza or superman.

Pizza and superman are products. How many of these places celebrate halloween or play American football? I do know what you mean, everyone is wearing our blue jeans as the meme goes but are they actually thinking like Americans?

Why did American feminism come about when it did? The story as I know it is most credibly that these previously mentioned technologies along with house hold labor saving technology came around and obsoleted the traditional feminine gender roles and feminism was created in search of a new role for women who suddenly found themselves with way less responsibility and it's associate meaning. It seems more likely that this same process happened in there other places rather than the memes created after the fact.

You've just restated, elegantly and with a somewhat novel examples, the same case that has always existed for restricting freedom of speech. This is not fundamentally different to calls to ban criticism of transgender ideology on the grounds that it can cause transgendered people to harm themselves or calls to ban criticism of the church because it might damn people's immortal souls even if I have more sympathy for the cause of silencing hucksters like the GME cultists that actively disgusted me as they reigned.

The response is as it's always been. Who, exactly, gets to decide what is true? I've seen what passes for experts and I'm not impressed. I'll take my cults over my tyrants, thank you.

NFTs continue to be a great technology used wrong by most projects where neither the average supporter nor detractor is very informed on their actual use. I'm an NFT fan if that includes ENS and not if it is limited to poorly generated image packs.

The overrepresentation of jews is explained by HBD, I find the conspiratorial angles on boring.

I continue to be surprised that people take Aella seriously, maybe it makes more sense If I were to use twitter as I hear she makes a lot of fun polls but I've never heard a take from her that sounded like much thought was put into it. I find value in your handling of "genocide", that ending rape would technically be a genocide in the same way that it's often used in 'trans genocide' debate is a very nifty point.

Conservatives would not be happy with calling transwomen 'ladyboys' but treating them the exact way, socially, as women.

And why should they?

My understanding is that a futanari has both sets of genitals.

I find it kind of objectionable to call wanting people to not suffer from something that very clearly makes life less pleasant a disgust reaction. There's a way that it fits, in a "I'm disgusted by needless suffering" sense, but the word has such a connotation of being unreasoned that it makes the whole comparison feel unfair. The difference between me and fat positive activists is not that one of us is disgusted and the other isn't, it's that one of us has given up on solving the root problem.

I'm of the opinion that caring about ethnicity is something that can't die out soon enough. HBD is, to me, a tool to this end. For representing a diverse city I'll take the white guy who grew up in a the south side of Chicago over a black guy who grew up in the gold coast or north shore if diversity of experience is important but I refuse to believe melatonin content is a prerequisite for empathy and understanding. I'm well aware that a lot of people have a high IQ than me, the ethnic breakdown of that population is of no interest.

health risks

This one. Although it's incredible to me that of the options you put forward this one is so small and modified by "risks". I'm someone who needs to work pretty hard to not be fat. If I didn't think about food I would eat and drink to excess constantly. I have seen both sides of fat and thin plenty of times and I can say with zero doubt that it is far better to be fit. Everything you do when you're fat has this unpleasantness almost as a tax. It's unpleasant to lay down, it's unpleasant to sit up, it's unusually difficult to just move in the world, not because of society but because your body is not supposed to be this way, your heart and lungs are no supposed to support twice as much mass as they did in the ancestral environment. I'm fit at the moment and it is difficult to overstate just how much better life is when you're fit. You move through the world with an ease, you sleep better, wake up more easily, it's a genuine pleasure just to move about in the world.

And then the more medical health risks as you've mentioned. Sure, of course, lets get medicine to alleviate what we can of them. I'd celebrate a side effect free pill that would solve these issues. I've seen enough loved ones die decades too early because of these "risks" and I'd cherish those extra decades. But we don't have that medicine. And activism is not going to bring us that medicine. Fat acceptance is not going to bring us that medicine.

would you say glasses solve the root problem of poor eyesight? Of course, nobody is disgusted by poor eyesight

My eyesight is starting to go a bit, I'll be thirty soon and this is around when other people in my family moved to needing glasses. A solution? No. And I'd eat more carrots if that would fix the issue even though I despise that particular vegetable. But we don't have the equivalent solution for eye sight that we do for being fat.

You might argue that you consistently are taking the path of least resistance

I would not phrase it like this no, I'm trying to take the best paths taking resistance into account. I'm aiming for optimal and will take the carrot or kale path if they are worth the expense.

The question then, is what is the fat-acceptance movement doing differently?

They are taking the greased path into a pit of despair and human suffering.

they would approve of societal interventions to increase fatness, because interventions to decrease it are problematic. Whether or not they can do this openly is a political question of optics. This also explains LGBTQ groomers.

I will oppose them so long as there remains breath in my lungs.

Yes, but this is one of those things I'm consistently unable to remember. I'll leave it because it's funny.

I am a large brown bear as my profile picture shows.
