Back when ChatGPT first showed up, it wanted you to login with a Google account, while Perplexity would just let you type queries in an incognito session, so I made a bookmark for Perplexity and kept using that. I wonder how many people ended up with Perplexity out of habit like that.

There was a person back on reddit-Motte who'd go back on their comments days later and edit some letters to be weird unicode variants and would then delete all their comments when asked about it, so people may be reading this as a crazy person tell now.

How do you tell if the thing you don't want to do is a thing you nevertheless should be doing or just a pointless small source of misery though? If you can trust society to tell you, great, but this whole current gestures at the Motte project and adjacent stuff thing is that society isn't exactly enjoying that level of trust anymore. And if you feel like you've been left out to figure things out on your own, whether you actually intrinsically want to do the thing suddenly feels a lot more important for judging it.

It's feeding your need for cognition for threat and survival scenarios with superstimulus parameters. Also, supernatural horror has a lot of the same general appeal as fantasy fiction.
Making nice internet-connected gaming machines very affordable and attainable could be part of the design.
