In no particular order of importance-
- People like looking at gorgeous women, but people also like looking at a variety of designs. Presenting gorgeous (monoracial) women as the default and variations from that as being inherently ideologically driven doesn't seem correct to me.
- I disagree that people like looking at beautiful women and having fun equally, at least within the context of a video game. There are plenty of fun, popular games with ugly characters, e.g. Psychonauts. Having fun is typically much more central to the idea of a game than the specific character aesthetics. They aren't the same kind of "like."
- This is less a response to you and more a thought I have about general gaming discourse, but fun is another lever that creators use to determine the experience they want you to have. Game designers are happy to frustrate and annoy you if it'll add to their vision. I don't think Pathologic is designed to be a fun experience, but it's certainly a worthwhile one.

What is the benefit of games portraying women as if they're all gorgeous bombshells? Is making every woman beautiful a non-ideological choice?

If anything, I have more trouble understanding the level of outrage over the art style. I see several people acting like Rose is a fat black trans woman, but she looks... fine? Rose is literally an attractive young woman with a sort of hot-blooded anime protagonist look, kinda giving Kallen from Code Geass. Similarly, I feel like most of the women in Hades are also drawn to look attractive. Hestia is a matronly black woman, but Aphrodite is a gorgeous, naked, white-looking woman. We have Nemesis, who is a muscular darker woman who's still drawn to look beautiful. There's variety, and that's bad?

I have, but if any profession should select for individuals who can subtly lead a horse to water AND make him drink...
I'm just confused about how this could even happen. Does he not have staffers? Was there anyone in his life who had the wherewithal to suggest that he was being an idiot?
What does "removing gameplay" mean here?
