I'd push back pretty hard on this take, it's not your typical "it was all a dream" rug pull ending. I mean the game is literally called Link's Awakening, I don't think it's a fake out that Link was not awake the whole game.
And even beyond the title, the story insinuates multiple times that you are living in the wind fishes' dream and that the island isn't real; it's this slow realization that makes the leadup to the end bittersweet. It's not something they drop on you out of the blue as a "twist", the villains even talk about how everything will disappear.
