At home it would be very surprising if any of the men in my family were at a BBQ and did not have a pocket knife to be honest. I have one in my cargo shorts almost all the time.
I have a lovely walnut handled folding knife in my pocket right now in fact. Unless I know I am going somewhere they are likely to screen for blades/weapons, it will be with me everywhere I go.
I did grow up culchie to be fair so maybe there is an urban/rural divide here.
