Even WW2 planes can likely take them down if they lack fighter support both ways.

I don't think there was anything in 1939 that could catch an aircraft at 40,000 feet and 500 mph.

Later in the war there were a few things that might could make that intercept (Me 163, maybe the Me 262?)

There's a secondary problem which is that at that altitude in World War Two you'd be relying on radar to make those intercepts and modern ECM should be pretty effective against it. However it's not going to be in the bandwidth modern self-protection jammers are in most likely to be in, but I would imagine the EW aircraft Algeria has could handle that.

Even with fighter support if you can get 10 WW2 fighters in the air they can likely take it down.

I suspect the Il-76's radar-guided tail gun actually ranges most WW2 fighters, so it might be much more effective than WW2 fighters by itself than you think. Assuming it's still installed and operational.

A modern fighter against a WW2 aircraft is a very wacky fight. Very much the modern aircraft's to lose because of the T/W ratio, but it's certainly quite possible to get shot down.

Why are you called The Motte?

A motte is a stone keep on a raised earthwork common in early medieval fortifications. More pertinently, it's an element in a rhetorical move called a "Motte-and-Bailey", originally identified by philosopher Nicholas Shackel. It describes the tendency in discourse for people to move from a controversial but high value claim to a defensible but less exciting one upon any resistance to the former. He likens this to the medieval fortification, where a desirable land (the bailey) is abandoned when in danger for the more easily defended motte. In Shackel's words, "The Motte represents the defensible but undesired propositions to which one retreats when hard pressed."

On The Motte, always attempt to remain inside your defensible territory, even if you are not being pressed.
