Whose rights?

How about the constitutional rights of people on US soil to not be arbitrarily seized and transported by agents of the state? The asylum seekers themselves have rights, which are the ones that were violated.

Frankly, comments like this decrease my sympathy for men who have issues getting a relationship substantially. It seems little different from the incel fantasizing about the "day of the rope". The sexless men will rise up! And take what's theirs! And all the Chads and Staceys who have wronged them will get whats coming to them! Yawn.

SO there is a certain...manner of speaking that certain men adapt when talking about thing that are difficult, or challenging, or make them feel a feeling that they dislike etc. They want to position themselves as a serious intellectual but also someone who is wrestling with some kind of inner demons, making them even more intelligent and mysterious. it is particularly pronounced when they are trying to position their own pain or discomfort as the most important thing in the world while using very flowery language, the kind one might find in an overwrought fantasy novel.

Overworked vocabulary? Centering their feelings? Thinking they are smarter than they are? Can you imagine Rastling Majere from Dragonlace saying exactly those words?

Dying Wizard.

Fraudulently induced to take a free plane ride to a rich city. Which, can still be a tort. Defrauding someone to travel somewhere is still a tort even if the place you're defrauded to go is really nice.

The tweet in question:

Twitter has had a massive drop in revenue, due to activist groups pressuring advertisers, even though nothing has changed with content moderation and we did everything we could to appease the activists.

Extremely messed up! They’re trying to destroy free speech in America.

Has he considered the possibility that it is not due to "activists" and, perhaps, is related to the fact that Twitter now has a CEO who shares easily debunked conspiracy theories?

What do you think is required for you to be "seized" within the meaning of the fourth amendment? From the complaint:

Particularly after the individual Plaintiffs had boarded the airplanes and were in mid-air, Plaintiffs were not free to leave, and were induced into that condition through false promises and misrepresentations. This constitutes a governmental termination of Plaintiffs’ freedom of movement through means intentionally applied.

I think conscription is bad, also.

  • -16

Was it bad when whites and white men were over-represented in media? Did that make it difficult for you to enjoy a piece of media?

  • -16

I am curious what proposition, overt or covert, you take the depiction of interracial or LGBT families to be propaganda for.

Literally every single book my 3 year old daughter got for Christmas is either packed to the gills with LGBTQ "families" or interracial families mixed to a degree that I'm pretty sure is genetically impossible. Like I don't think White Woman + Latino Man = 1 Asian Child, 1 Black Child and 1 tan baby.

I suspect most people are not thinking about the plausibility of genetic relationship between depicted family members when buying children's books. For one, people can have family members whom they are not genetically related to. For two, children's book authors are known to take creative liberties with reality for the purpose of telling an entertaining story or imparting a moral. For example, they may depict an animal doing something it is quite unlikely for it to do in reality (like a caterpillar eating chocolate cake) or imagine entirely new creatures which do not exist (like large furred horned hominids or dragons).

  • -16

Sure, but the degree of portrayal of interracial couples in media is not anywhere near that density.

What shows or stories are obliged to change their casting decisions in response to other shows casting decisions?

If there was a murder mystery series and it turned out the murderer was a Jew 75% of the time, and it wasn't set in Israel, it wouldn't be wrong to infer that the writers must have something against Jews.

This works in the context of a particular series. I am not sure it works in the context of many different sets of writers on many different series.

They seem like the result of fairly organic social phenomena to me, but I confess I had not heard of "black girl magic" until this comment.

Ok. I think it is bad that the Ukrainian government is forcing men to fight. The solution is to not do that, not force women to remain in the country or otherwise restrict them.

  • -12

I think conscription is bad, also.

  • -12

I do not think one injustice justifies another. We can, and should, get rid of both.

You don't get to simultaneously claim the same ability to show off while holding extensive privileges in controlling how people respond to your doing so.

I don't understand this sentence. No amount of women "show[ing] off" justifies sexual assault or harassment.

  • -12

I mean, the crimes are different. It is still the Biden administration prosecuting a Democratic Senator.

  • -11

I don't know. I think if some activity X is generally banned, but with an exception for Y, then you remove the exception for Y, your action is fairly characterized as "banning Y." You used to be able to do Y. Now you can't. Sounds like a ban to me!

I think conscription is bad, also.

Websites like transgendermap.com, and apps like Shinigami Eyes tell you which sources of information are good, and which are bad, so you know who to avoid as a good practicing member, and who your friends will know to dismiss if you bring them up.

Why is it bad to give people more information to make a decision? That seems like the opposite of controlling information!

  • -11

Your explanation of my actions evinces a quite poor theory of mind on your part.

Now that we've established that we both see each other as cringeworthy posers, do you have anything to say on the object level?

Sure. I think your analysis of the motivations of the parties involved and the causal forces at work is far too simplistic. Many groups in society have gotten their way by methods other than threatening violence. Similarly the notion that the current crop of young sexually frustrated men would burn down society for not giving them a girlfriend is absurd. Maybe there are some vocal incels/MGTOWs/whatever online that believe something like that but most people, including single sexless men, like society and all the benefits that flow from it. I think a very small percentage (<1) entertain anything like this idea and it will be very difficult for them to convince others to join them.

I agree, Elon Musk's moderation is very biased.

Lately, I've noticed that the tone of the discussion regarding Ukraine both on the Motte and on X has changed considerably. Notably, it seems that people are taking a much more pessimistic view of Ukraine's chances. The default assumption now is that Ukraine will lose the war.

I don't think this is surprising. A lot of Ukraine's ability to resist was predicated on US assistance, which has become increasingly rare due to resistance from House Republican leadership.

User @Sloot shared this nuclear-grade propoganda. While Ukrainian men fight and die in some trench, an increasing number of Ukrainian women are finding new homes (and Tinder dates) in Germany. Concern about female fidelity has always been a prominent feature of wartime propaganda. But, this takes it to a new level, since the women are in a different country, making new, better lives for themselves. How many will ever even return to Ukraine?

This is so bizarre to me. Ukrainian women are... people? They are not the property of Ukrainian men. They are not obliged to restrain from forming relationships or otherwise trying to live their lives because they happen to be refugees.

Ukrainian men are getting a raw deal in an effort to reconquer lost territory, whose residents probably want to be part of Russia anyway. Why should Ukrainians fight and die for some abstract geopolitical goal of NATO?

I do not think "maintaining the territorial integrity of Ukraine" is an "abstract geopolitical goal of NATO."

According to the US census there are 41M black people in the US compared to 20M asians. I'm highly skeptical there are more white men married to asian women than black men married to white women.

I think conscription is bad, also.

Perhaps I've missed them, but I've never seen anyone here propose any laws that take away women's rights to choose their sexual partners.

Fair enough, I'm not sure I've seen it so explicitly here but I feel like plenty of people have Darkly Hinted in that direction.

To be more succinct, we offer women a social/legal/political responses to remedy problems that arise due to their inability to create a particular interpersonal relationship. We don't offer men a social/legal/political responses to remedy problems that arise due to their inability to create a particular interpersonal relationship.

What are the responses we offer to women? Outlawing gender based discrimination in pay? That seems... fine to me? Again, I'm open to hearing what kinds of responses we should offer to men, but the people oft complaining about this seem light on actionable solutions.

Alternate simpler theory: Brinton thought the bags looked nice and wanted to own them. This also comports with how Brinton re-used the first bag they stole at another airport.
