The Strong Towns champions are all 3x - 5x the size of my small town.

Maybe it doesn't scale.

That may be true for some. It's not been my experience. I'm happy to have small town life in the exburbs. Big city life is why we moved away from the big city.

problem with suburbs is that they don't generate that much economic/tax revenue to support their infrastructure

Is that a problem? I was happy the small town we moved to only provides basic services, police, fire (volunteer), school and plowing in the winter. We've few business and fewer restaruants. Most everyone has a well and septic.

My presumption is that TPTB would find something silly to spend money on given a chance.

That there's a baseline of self reliance is not a 'problem'.

I'd be happier with billboards reminding women their primary worth is as wives and mothers.

I'd think being sexy would be less demoralizing than than a PowerPoint / email job billboard but I'm not a woman. Maybe women really identify with Cathy. Ack!

Are they invited at random or via lottery?

The invitees are selected by the administration.

Your contention is that this isn't signaling by the administration, elevating the profile of the invitees and their cause / grift over everyone not selected?

dedicated scammer class in the U.S.

We've 'Irish Travelers' involved in traditional cash up front scams of poor / incomplete home and improvement work and tarmacking drives.

With the advent of the welfare state I suspect many traditional scamming cultures have moved more into welfare / benefit fraud as easier work than scamming civilians.

Guilty Pleasures

Do you have guilty pleasures, you can share?

@Stefferi post on Eurovision exposed one of mine. My first exposure to Eurovision was in 2003 while living in Germany. The Turkish entry won that year.

That there are often scantily clad ladies performing helps elevate the show above many Idol and xfactor style contests. Also distracts from some of the more bizarre or political songs.

The Ukraine won in 2004.

Greece in 2005

Finland broke the sexy lady winning streak in 2006. Though not for lack of competition from FYROM and The Ukraine

Biden's inviting the low priorities to the White House to show they're low priority?

without US support, they probably wouldn't have nukes

Wasn't this the British?

Also your link wouldn't play for me in the US.

This one does https://youtube.com/watch?v=rJHe-iZ5HSI

Yes, that I can see. The people together enough to couch surf could use a flop / boarding house. Housing the Jordan Neely's with this cohort would drive them out, or pull down the marginal ones.

The cohort in tents are often in tents because of addiction or other mental health issues. They may not be as aggressive as Neely, but they're unlikely to be suitable for flop houses either.

There are tons of people who, with a cheap studio apartment could likely get by working part time hours at a McDonald's and being at least at the margin a productive-to-neutral member of society.

I think tons overstates it. A substantial portion of the unhoused cohort have already been evicted from free housing. They were unable to follow the rules for housing and many are non-compliant with their medication. They'll need more supervision than a flop house provides.

You have to be the change you want to see.

How long was your school day in India? Ours is ~7:40 - 15:40. Including the bus ride to/from school. Were we to add tutors, that would eat into unstructured time that I think is important. When my wife was in school in Germany it was only a half day, but with a much heavier homework load than our children have. Even my elementary school in the mid-80's in California had much more assigned homework.

Homeschooling?

Were you homeschooled or are you homeschooling your children? Why / How are the outcomes?

Any opinions on specific curriculums

We're concerned with the progress of our 4th grader. We've had several conversations with the school, and a SPED eval, all scores average or above. Our school / district is in the top decile of our state.

My wife has Ph.D, and is currently SAHM. She would prefer a more classical / Latin curriculum.

I'm not keen on our schools curriculum, though I'm also not sure it matters that much. I do think the social interaction in school is important. My preference would be for more copy work, cursive instruction, and traditional literature, this doesn't seem to be on offer in public schools anymore.

For you committed to a secure unit and shot or choked as an enemy of the state is the same?

Isn't housed / committed in a secure psychiatric hospital more minimal than miraculous cure?

miraculously cured of schizoism enough to not attack people

Why aim so low? Why not believe that it would've been better that Mr Schizo was miraculously cured and is nobel nominated physicist?

Neither of those scenarios appear to be on offer.

S1 was less woke than S2.

S2 continues with the diversity and adds more girl-bossing and sexual degeneracy.

Perry Mason - didn't see it, may be interested, depending on how woke it'd be (I have no hope for non-woke, but whether it would be tolerable?) - conditional, on the strength of the franchise

It's pretty woke. I watched it all, but would treat the woker scenes as commercial breaks. I wasn't really invested. I generally like Matthew Rhys work, as a kid I loved Perry Mason.

Body-positive cultural genocide.

Have you done any defense work? It can be impactiful, often at the request of an existing customer. The pace is slower than FAANG or similar. The pay is, adequate if not inspiring.

I'm circumcised. I found sex with condoms to be particularly uninspiring. Not an issue for my wife and I now.

When I was single, there were occasions I'd give it a miss rather than use condoms. For me it was like ersatz intimacy.
