I doubt this phenomenon exists outside Japan and South Korea to any significant degree.
I just realised that the Gen X/Millennial equivalent was feminist writers feeling disappointed by Johnny Depp marrying archetypal grippy-socks-grippy-box BPD art hoe Amber Heard, twenty years his junior.
It's no wonder this trash was written in 2014. It was the time when the Culture War was being escalated rapidly by the woke. It was obvious that things were going to turn bad.

I had to look this up in the dictionary. Welp.
Nerdy, socially awkward male writers get a lot of stick for indulging their Manic Pixie Dream Girl fantasy, but in their defense, at least they're usually content to invent fictional characters to fulfil this fantasy for them rather than conscripting real-life women into doing so and berating them when they can't perform a job they never agreed to carry out.
You know, this never actually occurred to me before.
I assume you’re referring to the social dynamic of Latinas seeing one another as dirty whores and thus being constantly paranoid about them (the other ones) seducing their man?

As far as Japan is concerned, I’m aware that the social concept of the idealized Japanese woman is established so well that there is even a separate phrase for it. According to this concept, the ideal woman is basically dignified and modest and yet at the same time alluring and determined, polite and delicate, graceful and elegant. Naturally female JPop idols are generally expected to adhere to this so I guess your overall point does stand. In other words, in this case we are indeed talking about ‘conscripting real-life women into doing so’. In general, it seems these societies are still conservative enough to retain the concept of idealized femininity whereas in the West this has been thrown with resentment on the trash heap of history decades ago.
