I personally classify class by education then by income. A well paid tradesman would be upper working class, while a poorly paid researcher would be lower middle class. The middle classes broadly earn more than the working class, but there's enough income variation between them that incomes overlap.

Speaking frankly, I would take the wife + casual sex deal in a heartbeat.
I mean, my sex life with my girlfriend is great, and given the choice between my current relationship and reliving my single and chasing girls days in my 20s, I'd prefer the former. But if I'm being offered the option of being able to pursue casual sex (or even just flirting) safe in the knowledge that my saint wife won't be upset and it wouldn't affect our marriage, then I would want to try it. I doubt I would pursue other women particularly vigorously, but if you're a guy who enjoys the chase (not necessarily a given) then this is all upside and no downside.

I guess that could technically be correct. But then it just begs the question as to why sloth and gluttony increased linearly in the latter half of the 20th century at the exact time as countries adopted seed oils into their diet.
If it were true, we would also expect to see people who work longer hours get less obese, because they are demonstrably less slothfull than their peers. We don't see this. Instead we see people who are objectively smart and hard working (for example, medical students) getting fatter just like everyone else.

I don't think that's a feminist explanation, I think it's more profound than that. Admitting she wears makeup for men can make a woman look promiscuous or vain, which women shy away from.
I suppose a traditional religious woman might admit to wearing makeup for her husband (being married avoids the promiscuity suggestion) but she's not going to say that it's to impress random men that she encounters because she enjoys the attention, even if it's true.

I wouldn't say it's true that 'lifting has the benefits as well'. Sure, you can make your resistance workout intense enough that you get indirect cardio, and therefore get (a very small amount of) the benefits of cardio. But if you're wanting to maximise growth, then a slower workout with longer rest periods is much better.
Optimising each workout for it's goal (bigger muscles or taxing the cardiovascular system) is better than doing a faster resistance session which is worse for both goals.

Your certainly right, but to classify people north of the hajnal line as 'more white' doesn't make any more sense than classifying them as 'more redheaded'.
'More outbred' would be more accurate, and actually hint to what you are taking about.
Although I doubt OP was talking about outbreeding, nuclear families and manorialism. I'm pretty sure they were awkwardly trying to apply idiosyncratic American ethnic terms to a world where the terms make no sense.

That's a good point. I'd rephrase my initial comment to say that young women (let's say, 18-24) are less threatened by younger women than the next cohort (25-30).

My girlfriend is pretty sanguine about it, but then she has wide hips and intends to be as drugged as they'll let her be.
The women in my family have narrow hips so they all had/are having ceasarians, and none of them seem to be worried about that.
Salsa (LA, Cuban and NY), bachata (sensual) and kizomba (traditional). I recently taught myself to call rueda which I'm really enjoying.
I've also dabbled in lindy hop, zouk and forro in the past. I figure I'll learn tango when I'm old.
What's your dancing background?

I actually did start with Language Transfer myself. The Spanish course is very good and the guy who runs it is impressive. I stopped halfway through when I discovered Dreaming Spanish but will probably finish the course one day.
I won't necessarily say that I'm opposed to it, but I think it works better if that kind of formal grammar explanation comes after you've had significant input. I've found that explanations like he offers 'stick' more if you can apply them to things you've already heard many times from input.

These classifications seem so bizarre. Like, I get why the term 'white' replaced English, German, French etc in the new world as the settler groups admixed. But if you define white as a literal skin colour, them surely you don't need to classify different ethnic groups, you can just look at them?
And if 'white' means European, then in what world are the French somehow more European than the Italians?
If you're trying to classify European ethnic groups, it would be better to think like a European and not an American. 'White' is not a meaningful category in this context.

Plus cheaper food, cheaper clothes, cheaper flights, cheaper cars and longer lives.
Housing is getting more expensive due to regulation & immigration rather than cost disease, and healthcare spending is going up because the developed world has a larger proportion of older people who are living longer (partly due to better healthcare). In countries with good housing regulation and immigration control, house prices go down over time.
Free trade and specialisation are the forces pushing prices down. If you abandon them for mercantilism, you get expensive essentials and expensive consumer goods.
I think we can cherry pick the data and have it any way we want in picking our specific cases to compare that make our points.
Jeroboam's list wasn't cherry-picking. It's literally a list of the richest Americans.
But let's expand it to Britain and see what we get.
- James Dyson - Wikipedia suggests a wealthy enough background for his parents to afford private school, but nothing spectacular. Made his fortune as an entrepeneur.
- Jim Ratcliffe - Solidly working class background. Father was a joiner and they lived in a council house
- S.P. Hinduja - Seems to have inherited a family business, which started with his father's work as a trader in colonial India
- Hugh Grosvenor - A literal aristocrat
- Michael Platt - Father was a university lecturer and mother was an administrator. Upper middle class background
- Denise Coates - Seems to have inherited her father's business. Her father had a working class background
- Anthony Bamford - Seems to have inherited a family business. Comes from a long line of businessmen
- Richard Branson - Father was a lawyer, mother was an air hostess. Made his own fortune.
- Andrew Currie - Wikipedia says he went to a grammar school, which means he passed the (meritocratic) test to get in
- John Reece - Seems to have worked his way up through various businesses, although not much information
So we have one aristocrat, a mixture or working and middle class backgrounds, and a few inheritors of family businesses. Seems to me like IQ is the main factor here. Even those who inherited their wealth have demonstrated their high IQ through successfully managing large businesses, and of course, IQ is arguably more heritable than wealth, since wealth can be squandered in a way brain cells can't.
Also, from the new Scientist article you posted:
On the surface, Zagorsky’s analysis confirms the findings of previous studies linking higher intelligence with higher income. “Each point increase in IQ test scores is associated with $202 to $616 more income per year,” he says. For example, a person with a score of 130 (in the top 2%, in terms of IQ) might earn about $12,000 more per year than someone with an average IQ score of about 100.
On the surface, people with higher intelligence scores also had greater wealth. The median net worth for people with an IQ of 120 was almost $128,000 compared with $58,000 for those with an IQ of 100.
But when Zagorsky controlled for other factors – such as divorce, years spent in school, type of work and inheritance – he found no link between IQ and net worth. In fact, people with a slightly above-average IQ of 105 , had an average net worth higher than those who were just a bit smarter, with a score of 110.
So IQ predicts both earnings and wealth, but goes away when you control for years spent in school (a consequence of IQ), type of work (a consequence of IQ), divorce (a consequence of IQ) and inheritance (which obviously correlates with IQ, since you need a high IQ to earn enough to pass on a significant amount to your children).
That study controls away the very thing it's supposed to be measuring.

I really don't think Zendaya was mere diversity casting. She's a popular actress and her character is described in the books as being 'skinny, with an elfin face' and having 'darkly elfin features'. When I heard she was being cast as Chani, I immediately thought she was the perfect choice. And if we're in agreement that the Fremen should have been Bedouins, well, here's what a real Bedouin girl looks like. You can hardly claim Zendaya is too dark to play the sci-fi version of her.

'Since forever' was hyperbole on my part, but this article suggests that Jews have been conservative for most of the post-war period. While they started off as poor, Eastern European immigrants (and voted left), they moved up the class pyramid and switched to voting right. This report suggests that the preference for Conservative voting was well established by 1995 but I couldn't find any data from earlier.
Plus the Victorian Britains elected the extremely Jewish-sounding Benjamin Disraeli as Conservative Prime Minister in 1874, although he had converted to the Church of England as a child so his Jewishness was ethnic if not religious. The end of (limited) legal discrimination against Jews is usually dated to 1858, when they were allowed to become members of Parliament without taking a Christian oath of office.

How exactly are the coastal PMC types going to get rich in a way that doesn't enrich the rest of us?
If AGI can manufacture goods much more cheaply, then that means cheap goods for everyone. If AGI can provide services for zero to low cost, that means cheap or free services for everyone.
While there are situations where individuals can get rich at the expense of the masses through rent-seeking (I'm thinking someone like Carlos Slim monopolising Mexican telecoms) the overwhelming majority of billionaires got that way by providing something useful to the masses. Elon Musk sold luxury electric cars, Jeff Bezos provided an online retail experience far superior to anything that came before it, Steve Jobs sold consumer-friendly, well-designed electronics.
If Sam Altman ends up a trillionaire, how exactly could that leave the rest of us poorer?

I'm perfectly happy to discuss the issue itself, I just think that such discussions are much more fruitful when everyone avoids using loaded language.
For example, if I'm arguing against someone who opposes abortion being legal, I'm not going to go along with them using the term 'baby-murder' in place of abortion.
You probably don't think of 'selling her body' as being equivalent, but I think that just demonstrates how successful the activist framing has been. It implies that prostitution is a type of slavery, which it (usually) isn't.
After all, I would argue that a woman who marries a man for his money (to a first approximation, most women who have ever existed) is 'selling her body' to a much greater degree than a prostitute, who is merely renting it. And yet the wife is held in much higher esteem than the jezebel.

Singapore has Chinese people. The Chinese diaspora is always successful. Whether they're in SE Asia, Australia, Europe, America, they're always smart, entrepreneurial and law-abiding. I disagree with you about the PAP, I think LKY genuinely was one of the greatest statesman in history, but regardless, when your main ethnic group has an IQ of ~110, creating a wealthy city-state is actually possible.
Finland deserved to win. Sweden's song was good, but it's not sporting to send a previous winner back, especially one with an established music career.
Overall not a particularly memorable contest in my opinion. The staging was great (as always) but very few stand out songs.
