I feel like that is deeply uncharitable, and reads like deflection. Lefties claiming Robinson is unable to be coded because despite everything we know about him personally his parents are conservatives is moronic. But a villian accusation for gay white supremacists is literally cross pressured, though to be honest I personally think it is 85%+ left coded and saying it is too muddled to call is me being charitable.

This reads like schizophrenia to me, but on balance it seems more right-coded than left-coded, concerns over "white supremacists" notwithstanding.

I'm not sure you can code that left or right at all, but on balance to me anything with "white supremacists" as the villian is left coded, as is the fact that he said LGBTQ. I'd assume a right coded terrorists would just call them gay, fags, queers, or default to the villian of the moment and focus on the trans.

But this IS the reason that gerrymandering feels bad, the reason that people instinctively dislike it. Its not that people hate the squiggly lines in and of themselves, they dislike that the lines lead to unfair vote distributions. So it is not immediately obvious to me why having even worse distributions without squiggly lines is better.

Gerrymandering: California will soon vote on whether to redistrict itself for the express purpose of counteracting a Republican gerrymandering plan in Texas. The rewards from gerrymandering are extra House seats which could tip the balance of House control -- a tasty prize. Democrats had unilaterally disarmed themselves with bipartisan commissions in many states, but that did little to convince Republicans to ease up. Democrats could probably go even if they play hardball, which is a lot better than the status quo where they’re down somewhere between 8-20 seats depending on the fairness metric used.

I disagree that California's independent commission constitutes unilateral disarmament. In 2024 the difference between the percentage of the vote that went to the out party (Rs in California and Ds in Texas) an the percentage of house seats they won was more "unfair" in California, and a commission which is 1/3 D 1/3 R and 1/3 "neutral" parties who all agree with the D side all the time is not exactly the platonic ideal of fair districting. And there are D states where Rs are wildly underrepresented, but the district lines look fair and the Ds say "well its not gerrymandered, what do you want?" as if the problem was squiggly lines on a map and not the unrepresentative outcomes. I am not saying that refusing the gerrymander and have independent commissions is BAD, but getting worse outcomes than Texas and then acting holier than thou about Texas's districting is laughable.

The correct solution for all states with more than 1-2 seats is multi-member districts which would get the ratios better and allow everyone to be represented, but that never seems to be on the table unfortunately.

I thought the same thing at first, had to re-read the first paragraph like 3 times.

If a tranny shooting up a catholic school isn't leftwing violence then neither is a white guy shooting up a black church, and we both know that would be included.

Did you do any spot checking to make sure known incidents were included? I saw claims that the ADL dataset didn't include a trans shooter at a Christian school under leftwing violence despite that incident being included in their timeframe, and that sort of miss makes the whole project seem not just methodologically biased but pure BS from top to bottom.

Yes, America wasn't facing a China sized existential threat at the time of these turmoils.

Those turmoils were in the 60s and 70s, peak USSR cold war era. US and China, while clearly rivals, are more economically and diplomatically interconnected than US and USSR ever were, and children are not doing duck and cover drills because of constant fear of Chinese nukes, nor are we engaged in Vietnam level proxy wars vs China's client states.

I am not surprised that Americans are 60% of the market, Americans are much richer and OF is a global market without price discrimination. Even if Indians and Africans are willing to spend double the percentage of total resources on OF they will still be much lower as a total amount just because they have so much less.

In the 50s there were comic book companies which had series which only had like 24 issues which they cycled through publishing on the same theory, that boys who discovered comics at 12 would age out into baseball and girls by 14 so there was no point in having more than 2 years worth of material.

I think this is arguable either way. The worst negative effects of weed do seem not as bad as the worst effects of alcohol, but I think fully swapping it would speed overall social degeneration even worse. Weed use is correlated with sitting around at home playing video games, alcohol is correlated with going to bars and clubs which while not amazing value adds are at least social situations where single people can meet each other.

I think that given that at every turn the british response to real problems has been to lie about them until forced to come clean it is understandable that many will not give credence to the official narrative.

Also, that thread of /r/scotland is not all speaking with one voice, there are plenty of people who DO think this was rapey brown guy, they are just downvoted and at the bottom. This could be evidence that those people are crazy and the majority knows it, or it could be exactly what happens on every reddit thread related to the culture war where the left perspective is upvoted and the right perspective is downvoted and the truth of the matter is secondary to this pattern at best. So calling this conclusive opinion of the locals is not convincing to say the least. Frankly, trying to use a reddit thread to establish general consensus around the left wing view makes me less likely to believe that is the case, as if it were it seems like you could find a better source.

And while I totally agree that little girls carrying blades about is not normal, to me this makes the rapey migrant explaination MORE likely. If someone is carrying around multiple hard to conceal weapons it is indeed very odd, and begs the question of WHY. And given the context of the video the most simple explanation is "because she and/or her sister had been harassed before so she chose to arm herself this time."

You may well be correct, but given the full context I don't think it is fair to call the unconvinced "paranoid".

I strongly agree with this, especially for someone with the cultural attitudes of the median motizan. The gatekeepers to the existing paths to success are largely all held by people who are actively looking for NOT YOU and view keeping you out as an active good, and while alternatives such as Baen exist they are but one port and that is just a different tournament model of which of the legions of authors applying to them get picked.

Kindle Unlimited and other self published routes have a bad rap in a lot of places because the lack of gatekeepers means the quality can be pretty low, but there are a lot of people who have been a success who would not have been able to make it otherwise. You probably don't want to do this because it seems low status and sends a signal that your book isn't good enough for traditional publishing, but try to be Larry Correia. He self published his first book, marketing it primarily by sharing it on the gun enthusiast forums he participated it, and now is very successful in the trad publishing world (largely through Baen, but still) on the basis of that success. If you self publish and make a follow up post with the link here I will pre-commit to at least giving it a look.

I think the logic largely goes like this:

  1. The solution is just to jail the blacks who are committing all the crime and loudly say its a bad thing and then do nothing to the non-criminals
  2. The left has made clear that is not an option, as long as the levels are disproportionate doing anything about the problem members is not allowed, and loudly decrying them is absolutely verboten.
  3. Fine then, if the existence of a black population implies a large level of criminality and disfunction which we are not allowed to address then the problem is the existence of the population.

Its the same way that most people are not immigration absolutists but if the left and center refuse to deal with them problem and indeed insist on making it worse then I guess I'll vote for the right, even though they will go much further than I'd prefer. Or if the right insists on full abortion bans then I'll vote for the left and their up to the moment of birth plans, even though I'd prefer reasonable limits.

If the left was open to fixing the actual problem then throwing the baby out with the bathwater would be less popular. Though the fact that in this case the non-problem population is also very loudly offended by the idea of solving the problem makes it worse.

Asking for a ranked list sounds like a great solution, sometimes it is wrong even when its not being sycophantic (which I don't mind its not magic and the information I am giving as someone with no clue what I am doing is imperfect at best) so that sounds like a two birds one stone kind of fix.

My last experience with this was having it help me figure out a home repair issue. I am not handy at ALL but I thought I knew what might be wrong with a broken garage door opener, but only in a very general way and I was not sure how to effect the repair. It was able to help me get everything fixed through a mix of describing the issue and supplying plenty of photos, but everytime I gave my current guess of the state of the situation it would affirm me even though I was only right about 2/3 of the time.

Even with claude I have the issue that if I give it what I think an issue is it will tunnel vision on that. I'd appreciate more pushback when I am wrong when I am trying to work through a problem. Trying to add some uncertainty to the tone of my request can help but is often not enough.

Poor James never knew how close he came.

According to OP James has a pattern of stealing women from his lovelorn roommate. Such a fellow is lucky to still have all his teeth, and if he continues in that vein will not have them all for long.

I completely agree. I am conservative while strongly disliking MAGA and as a result pretty much everywhere else I go online it is very clear that I am the outsider and there is nothing I hate more than "as we all agree" style posts. Part of why I like the Motte so much is that it is one of the few places I feel closer to the median, like I actually belong, and one of the things I would like for my space is to not replicate the indignities of enemy territory but with the sign reversed.

Some of my resentment towards him is certainly jealousy (he has recently been fucking a girl I went on a date with and mildly liked),

Just wanted to say that this is extremely shitty and I'm sorry you are going through that. If you have a friend who is also having a hard time with girls and he gets with a girl you liked that sucks, but you can at least be happy for him. Having that girl instead get used by a guy who is already having an order of magnitude more success than you is just shit all around and makes you lose all respect for both of them. Hang in there.

Or allow editing but have a button so users can see the audit trail? I understand the intent of the request, but I'd never want to lose the ability to fix spelling mistakes, and I often see people add [edit: reason] tags due to a response causing them to update on something or clarify a fact in the original post.

I think even viewing it as "It's okay to be white" is a view you can only take a culture warrior whose Time To Fight bell gets wrung by the word genes.

The most straight forward interpretation is clearly "she is hot and slim and has large natural breasts" and her race is only relevant to the extent that you think white girls are/aren't hot. Moving from "she is personally genetically blessed with beauty" to "she is an aryan princess" is such a culture war brained move that it SHOCKS me how many people seem to think it was intended in any way.

Ok so you're an employer and you see an employee of yours on the internet in front of millions saying things that you view as disgusting and horrible and that you don't want in your business. Are you only allowed to fire them if they mention your company during it?

It is already illegal to do so for at least some categories of things, ie if an employer finds homosexuality or interracial relationships or conservative islam disgusting they can sit and spin and are not allowed to fire you. I just think that saying "I can fire you for violating my values but you cannot fire me for violating yours" is not a sustainable situation.

Legit question, how does getting downvoted censor him? The sorting method on here is by newest, not by top rated.

It does seem to me like there is a whole lot of room between "not when she is injured, or right after a fight, or when you need a bath" and /r/deadbeadrooms. Your examples all seem to assume a pretty high, or at least medium, baseline of sex and then declare that there should be a non-zero number of limits on when a man can assume his marital rights, but what is being discussed is a level which is low to non-existent so your comment seems non-responsive tbh. Real "all debates are bravery debates" energy IMO, where you are saying there must be SOME limits on how often the husband can expect a yes and erwgv3g34 saying there must be SOME limits on how often she can refuse.
