Slavery gives the center of an empire a quick economic boost from conquered territories though. Which otherwise would be very hard to extract without letting them develop economies and tax infrastructure that the empire might lose control of to local elites.
Who pays the tax is determined by elasticity of supply and demand. If supply is inelastic as in this case, the producer ends up bearing most of the tax. The demand for overpriced Amazon tut is also quite elastic since people are very sensitive to small changes in price.
Compare cigarettes that are basically the opposite situation (classic textbook example). Demand is inelastic in the short run due to addiction, so consumers pay virtually all the tax.
And the more inelastic either demand or supply are, the less dead weight loss there is to the tax, because quantity sold drops less and more producer/consumer surplus is harvested by the tax rather than lost through unmet demand.

The plus side of this is that the tax incidence will be borne almost entirely by the manufacturer rather than the consumer.
In that sense tariffs are basically free money for the US gov, paid for by the people currently getting rich off import wholesaling.

I would never use powerline if there was any other option. It works fine if you're on the same circuit, but once it passes through the breaker panel it's a coin flip. I've actually got it running to a distant building 500' away, through the woods so a ptp wifi link would have been much harder to set up.

Just run an Ethernet cable across the floor and put a rug on it, 9 times out of 10 it's the best option.

Just run an Ethernet cable on the floor lol. Stick it under a rug, job done. The important part is a wired connection to the router, because there's a lot of local interference on the WiFi spectrum (and very little on the regulated cell spectrum between the router and tower).
Although if there's no other channels around a 2.4ghz connection might give you a more reliable signal than 5.

Tesla already stopped importing cheap LFP cells from China (which they had already started switching almost every car model over to)... Because Biden slapped a huge tariff on them and made those Teslas ineligible for the ~20% federal subsidy. Forced a whole strategy shift.

And protect from voltage transients. Power supplies are incredible at eating anything you throw at them, but tree branches on power lines can cut mains voltage in half several times a second.
I'm late on everything, but the potatoes are finally up. Still reworking a few of my beds. At least lambing's almost done.
