It's more the "10 shrimp matter more than a human toddler because pretend math".

Sex pests: they have weird sexuality but seem to respect consent and don’t seem to bother people outside broadcasting themselves, so I don’t see how they’d be “pests”

Being very charitable, this may be a "suffering from success" situation. Those circles seem to take sex pest issues very seriously. Alternatively phrased, they seem frequently riven with bloodbath infighting over sex pest scandals. It is possible that, like the Boy Scouts, their sincere and well above average efforts to tackle the Sex Pest Problem means the issue appears vastly more salient than among other comparable subcultures.

Being very charitable, of course. Being more realistic, autistic sex-positive dorks are going to attract sociopaths like flies to shit.

Yeah, people know it's a joke. It's generally seen as an incredibly poor taste joke though or at the very least one that fails to read the room.

It's particularly dumb because there's plausible reason to think Vance at least had read Scott back in the day. I feel like 2014 Scott would have noticed the opportunity, and taken advantage of the audience to make a reasoned, decently-targeted pitch. But modern Scott would lose his polycule if he published "An Open Letter to Whichever of You Fuckers Is JD Vance", so, alas.

Yeah. The only reason I got to MT as a bear was because my IRL friends and I founded a guild, and I earned the trust doing heroic 5 mans in TBC with them before we got to the raids. It helped that among the double-handed lot of them there was like 1.5 healers and then a whole mess of mages, warlocks and hunters, so there was no real competition for the slot.

and after that it went into non-consensual territory.

The guys were drunk and on ketamine too. Some of her descriptions of the end indicate that they were worse off than her. Did she rape them?

I did Bear in TBC. It was fine most of the time. There were some fights where it was straight better. But too many important fights had Warrior specific mechanics. Does Illidan still functionally require the ability to block?

National discussions concerning the prevalence of sexual violence on college campuses often define such violence as including experiences of nonconsensual penetration (including attempted penetration) and/or sexual touching that involves physical force and/or incapacitation. We have expanded that definition to explicitly list unwanted choking or strangulation as a form of nonconsensual sexual contact.

Huh. You are very correct. I would like to amend my previous snarky comment. I am no longer being facetious. Cornell University should be shut down, and the people responsible for it's operations charged with assorted relevant crimes.

Pretty sure that one dropped the bar as low as "Have you ever felt pressured?"

Cornell recently released survey results claiming that 35% of female undergraduates reported non-consensual sexual contact in the last year (it will not take long for anyone here reviewing this survey to spot many issues). Given the apparent epidemic of such behavior, it would seem time to return to universities having far more control over student behavior to keep those students safe.

More like time to shut down Cornell University and bring charges against everyone responsible for its operations. Cornell is more dangerous for women than an African nation in a civil war where rape is being specifically and broadly used as a weapon!

The point is to needle them about this fact and highlight their hypocrisy to onlookers.

That can sort of, maybe, sometimes work when you're citing actual principles, like questioning the compassion of a Christian, or pointing out when a progressive is being racist and sexist. And it still mostly fails because real ideologies have already grappled with those topics. The Christian will say that forgiveness requires repentence so they can fully condemn unrepentant evildoers; the progressive will say that they feel like a scrappy underdog so their hatred is righteous.

Scott's post is mostly very defensive snark on trite descriptors, except for the compassion thing which is already fatally undercut in that he's making that argument on behalf of people who are half a step away from being Nurgle worshippers.

It doesn't seem to me like there is a reasonable expectation that making a blog post that an obviously false autobiography is, in fact, false would lead to retribution.

In a free country? No.

In Europe? ...

Samples, maybe not. Over the course of a whole book? I feel pretty confident. Might ping HereandGone and ask if she can recommend a few mystery novels to test the theory.

I think the biggest tell is how they focus on people, on the relations between them. Men and women have different ways of assessing the men and women around them, different ways of relating to the same and opposite sex.

the biggest tell is simply that men tend to depict both men and women like stereotypical men (e.g. stoic and rational) or women like children

This is another huge one, especially in the field of pseudonym-cloaked online writing. In theory, I know literally nothing about author CoffeeBacon666, but in practice their female main character is just an autistic dude in a dress with some childish affections.

I could see myself being more confused in a genre I was less familiar with. It would be interesting to take on a challenge like "Read these three mystery writers. All have male names, but some of them are actually female writers. Can you figure it out?"

It's the intersection of athleticism and upper-class coding. Think of the stereotype of a desirable man from a romance novel. Tall, handsome, rich, jacked, with the arrogance and domineering attitude that results. Get a lacrosse all-star bit by a werewolf and he's basically the ideal man to a large portion of the women in America.

You know what'll fix the birthrate crisis? Criminalizing Netflix for young parents. And books, too, probably.

Yes, there's a point where ignoring your kid while mechanically caring for them is a problem, but infants spent a lot of time being uninteractive and holding them is pretty much all you need to be doing.

WoW also has a lot of interesting colors and shapes for a toddler to look at while they sit on Daddy's lap and watch him tank Illidan. Important lessons to absorb about leadership, coordination, and internet/chan culture, too.

It's a bit of a personal topic for me. I literally met her mother on WoW, and it took a while to unravel us from the guild I led after real life took precedence.

Case in point for how similar woman and men are: from their writing, art, etc. you may guess right well over 50%, but it's impossible to reliably infer someone's sex. Multiple famous novelists and mangakas have been women who wrote under men's names, and anecdotally, I've heard multiple women surprised that their favorite fanfiction's author is male.

Eh, I feel like it's more 80-90% reliable. Men and women consistently focus on different little details. I can only think of one example where I was genuinely unsure, though admittedly I can't know if I've ever been totally fooled.

“That’s victim blaming, straight up,” in state law, said Stefan Turkheimer, vice president of public policy for RAINN, the largest anti-sexual violence organization in the U.S. “It prevents a lot of cases from coming forward, where prosecutors are reluctant to try to push forward on a case where the person is incapacitated due to voluntary intoxication.”

I completely agree. It is unconscionable to allow this predator to roam free after she raped those two men. After all, her own description strongly suggests that they were drunker/more drugged than her. The fact that they made the offer doesn't absolve her of the fact that they were too intoxicated to be responsible for their choices.

I can tell you that it is entirely possible to raid while bottle-feeding an infant.

Eh, Thrall is green Jesus who just wants peace and freedom for his people. When you first encounter the trolls in WC3, they're a literal foodslave race. The Tauren are Native Americans. The undead just want to understand their place in the world, find out who they really are, maaaaan.

That's at least an outlook you can take that is consistent with the lore. But personally, I agree, fuck all that whiney pussy shit. Lok'tar Ogar! For Hellscream!

Congratulations! Enjoy the hell out of it, bro. It passes quicker than you think. What comes later is good too, but different good. There's only so many months when the little one is overwhelmed with excitement because "Dada! Dada!" came home.

Fair enough. The corruption argument has also been exhaustively covered, from a few different angles. I do think the "public corruption vs private corruption" angle is the strongest one for Trump supporters to lean on there, but I don't think The Motte has discussed Hunter Biden's memecoin rugpull yet.

It seems that in her initial interview with the police last year, she said she was offered a threesome and accepted (at least in part) because she hoped that meant the two hot frat guys were going to be gay with each other, too. A third guy asked to join in. She said no because she assumed that meant upping the ante to include anal, and Guy #3 left without a fuss.

There's a bit more variation on that than you'd expect.

I'm sure it's not universal, but I've had a fair number of gay acquaintances explicitly call the female plumbing "disgusting", with no real prompting. Made it seem like a common and commonly expressed sentiment.

Meanwhile, actual gay guys: What? No. Hell no. God, fuck no. Get your gross-ass pussy out of here. No one wants to see that.

What are the odds Cornell settles anyway, for the sake of ideology and bad press?
