They are doing the second. Russia has no more qualms about retaining slavic identity than Berlin has with German and in 2023 they were importing half a million central Asians. If it were a more desirable place to live I am sure they would import even more.
European civilization doesn’t serve much of a purpose, it doesn’t see itself as anything worth protecting or with any missions worth accomplishing. It’s just a political system that exists to manage whoever happens to be there while not protecting its natives from harm. If Europeans still believed in their own civilization or values, or saw themselves as something worth protecting, there’d be hope for the EU. Americans still see themselves as a people and a civilization worth working for. They have residual Christian faith (most are at least nominal) and residual belief in their system even if the government they live under barely resembles the government the Constitution describes or the founders intended.
Modern Europe was created by America for what it's worth. And I personally think the US is going the way of Brazil-style lusotropicalism while Europe is just in terminal demographic decline. White America's views and TFR are also not that far of Europe.
Russia is everything that the west is but worse. Russia has more abortions, more divorces, more stringent islamophobia laws (!!!), more nihilism and even less principles than the much maligned countries in Europe. It's not the antithesis of woke that (mostly) Americans imagine it to be.
The toilet paper thing is the cheapest of the cheap google models. Is it good? No. Is it representative of frontier AI? Also no.
Especially since the LLMs are well known to flatter the biases of their users, which is something doctors are changed not to do due to the negative outcomes associated with that.
Doctors do that all the time, especially if there are adverse financial incentives at play. The US is going through a multi-decade crisis because of opioid overprescription and people shop around for ADHD stimulants.
I am not saying that LLMs can 1:1 replace physicians. They can't. What they can (probably) replace is the part where if you have a good idea of the symptoms you'd do tests, integrate information, come up with a diagnosis, order further tests and eventually prescribe medicine.
Anthropic and OpenAI definitely think they can replace that part. In an ideal world, I, as an informed consumer, would get the choice to choose between the perhaps inferior AI medicine that costs dollars or pennies or the 10-20% of GDP current medical system.

The message that people, especially women, have sent in the last 70? years is that love is transactional, divorce for any reason whatsoever is OK and the sexual marketplace is to essentially function as a anarcho-capitalistic matching market where you are entitled to nothing and everything goes. We title partners as "low" and "high" value, assign numbers to people, commoditize them on dating apps.
If you work extremely hard to commoditise and devalue things like love, then why would you be surprised that things turn into a zero-sum anything goes amoral all-against-all?
People respond to incentives. The incentive for men is to defect in the face of the defection of women. Why propose if you will get divorced in 10 years and half your stuff taken? Why stick around when you have a roster? Because of religion? Women don't believe in that either? Because you worship women as a thing, as a concept? Well most don't.
If you want to bring back chivalry, you either have to bring back the moral system that produced it or engineer men to be subservient and un-self interested. Which women then wouldn't want to have sex with in the first place.
If she wanted altruistic, value-driven men she would have shopped around at an orphanage, volunteered at a homeless shelter or gone to church. She chose an environment where she'd be treated like a piece of meat and well that's what she got.
