The left’s unique problem is that left-wingers are pathologically afraid of the great sin of “looking mean.”

I think a bigger problem was the decision of a lot of major employers to endorse these idiots by effectively putting them in charge of hiring/firing choices for a decade plus.

People take "we can kill you any time we want" seriously, and that's what the Times blowing up prominent reporters means for a lot of the little people out in real life who need work to eat.

I mean, there are lots of people who liked the fictitious version of the left that was just about freedom of expression and abortion and "women and men should both be allowed to have bank accounts" and "cops randomly beating up anyone is bad actually" and gay rights and "reality-based community" and the kind of ideas you'd find in old popular fiction books. It just turned out never to have existed outside of those nice-sounding stories.

Is that a "real left" or isn't it? And what exactly does that mean?

what does this say about politics now

That "lolbertarian" was a really good insult?

Seriously, though: if simple can vote, simple will govern. Most people don't give a shit about coherent ideology or complex policy. Let's call it "too autistic."

will we reverse polarize ourselves into a small government balanced budget "socialist" president at some point?

If you want a real policy that isn't "we support whatever those losers hate now" you'll have to look at a smaller number of people.

I suspect a lot of the autistic ones are people like Ana Valens who convinced themselves they had infinite lesbian porn pass (hint: feminism is not deceived by your clever ruse).

They're like "constitution says cops can't give me a speeding ticket" guys but for social censure, so they end up in weird/suicidal places politically.

they mean, NOTHING!.

Indeed, a piece of paper written by dead white men. And I can only hope one day we all act in accordance with the truth.

I rather doubt this will hold, any more than it has for the last fifteen years. Either they've learned enough wisdom to crush you or you'll go back to being brushed off into the dustbin of history. I'm quite certain you can't defend yourselves or anyone else, at this point.

But you're welcome to surprise me.

"If I'm going to be blamed for the actions of my group, I should certainly promote the interests of that group which are now my own" would be precise, I think.

Rather, the fundamental rule of large-group human social interaction.

Isn't #YesAllMen kind of the central principle of feminism-tinged social justice? I'm not sure how to read your second paragraph coherently.

I'm not certain most Americans consistently remember that Quebec exists, but otherwise granted.

Probably true. Do you expect that to happen? In my experience the median American view of Canada is something like "that place with all the beavers?"

"The Enlightenment Is Bad Actually (because I've forgotten 'community justice' just means the town lynching anyone who consensus has social guilt)" is intolerably annoying.

I second (seventh?) finding someone professionally equipped to talk to. Humans aren't built to handle that kind of thing alone. It's about getting out of your own head at least as much as any practical advice.

Can we stop using weasel words here?

I won't lie to make you feel better about yourself, no.

Watching "some human subpopulations process oxygen more efficiently" transition into "probably racist" was kind of funny. But as long as you keep that attitude, you and I are enemies.

At least this mess has been educational. Saul becoming Paul really is rare.

"Humans are also subject to evolution" was the general consensus on Wikipedia back in 2010. What trendy giveth, trendy taketh away. Normal people are not formal logicians.

Alas, still filing under "the people involved can't be trusted near anything important." There'll be others.

Normal people think italians are White. The social justice'd think everyone who isn't black is White. Racists think everyone who isn't White is black. And the other kind of social justice'd think White means "everyone who doesn't worship odin, but, like, in an anarcho-progressive way." Those are the most fun.

first king of the USA

Margaret Thatcher or bust, I'm afraid.

There are no deans in Cambridge.

In Mr Arday's case, is that relevant?

UPDATE: Arday has resigned from Cambridge.

Pity. I was hoping they'd promote him to dean.

Anne Frank turn her own family in to the Nazis after she learns what the Jews are planning to do to Palestine (only for Adolf Hitler to show up after the execution, revive the family, and come out as a trans woman

I never gave this thing a second thought after hearing about it, but that's actually pretty funny. Woke Jesus Hitler is very apropos.

You may not be interested in social maneuvering, but it's interested in you. You will be held accountable for the actions of others like you, you will face the consequences of their choices. You are your brother's keeper, whether you like it or not.

Act accordingly or suffer. That's all.

(I do wish downvoters would remember that quote marks are for quoting other people... I heard that one quite recently too.)

With the caveat that it's more "why would we boo you when we can 'Pop. Goes. The Kirkoid!'"

(One doesn't usually "boo" vermin.)

But I quibble.

What does "cringe" even mean in this context?

That "ew kill it kill it kill it" feeling some people get when they see a bug in the bathroom.
