As an insider, wokes in the company had been railing against Thiel being on the board for years and years. Zuck always stood up for him.
Zuck would go along with diversity initiatives but was never the one pounding the drum. The most I can remember him being fired up about woke politics is when somebody crossed out “Black Lives Matter” on a chalkboard.
COVID censorship, even inside the company, was absurd though. Mass deletions of comments for not citing “reputable” sources, for which the definition of reputable was secret and somehow didn’t include university professors.
I got the impression that Zuck is a pretty standard Silicon Valley paternalistic tech idealist.

Having skimmed the Colorado ballot decision, it looks like the strongest evidence on offer of Trump encouraging violence is using the word “fight.”
If that’s not an isolated demand for rigor, I don’t know what is. Is there a single federal politician who hasn’t promised to fight or encouraged supporters to fight?

Given that he didn’t double down, I’m inclined to believe the “poisoning the blood” comment was him unknowingly wading into racial purity rhetoric on one of his hours-long riffs.
Trump’s history shows no fondness for racial purity or white supremacists.

Maybe the highest level of government are just different, but it would be strange in my industry if you had no contact with your direct report for such a long time.
And if you’re going to be incapacitated during expected work days you’re definitely expected to tell your manager.

People aren’t so concerned about the means and medians, they care about the outliers. The championships denied, the scholarships lost, but for a male competing against females.
In some contact sports there are also concerns about safety.
Oh, and they don’t want their daughters showering with naked males.

You can definitely be persecuted for speaking out, and everyone knows this. It’s also very hard to verify that you’ve been persecuted, so a whole lot of people claim refugee status who haven’t actually been persecuted.
We had a guy join my church for a few weeks, and he reported that he’d also attended Baptist, Mormon, and a whole bunch more. According to my Chinese wife accumulating a big list of churches you’ve attended is a strategy for claiming religious refugee status.

Potential confounds abound and no one is going to be able to conduct an RCT for this.
Anecdotally a lot of men report “porn brain” interfering with their ability to have normal relationships with women. Having decided to be done with porn about a year ago, I do notice a difference. But there’s a also a finding-religion confound in my case.

That’s just slightly more than the demographics for the population. Census says whites are 50.5% of 18-24 year olds.
Though that doesn’t seem to jibe with documentaries like Restrepo. I wonder how much checking the Hispanic box changes the infantry number.

My guess is that demographic is over represented in frequency, but not dollar value. They tend to steal trifles for personal use, not to offload to a fence.

Not only do they believe they can make engineering representative of US demographics, they believe that racism within the company is the reason it isn’t already representative.
Never mind that the company sources talent globally and neither India or China can help to deliver black engineers.

We see it now that folks on the left have a fond nostalgia for the dawn of the social movements of the 60s, and never mention where those ideas ended up: Jonestown, NAMBLA, Black Panther Party and its spin-offs torturing and assassinating one another, bombings, kidnappings, Foucault fucking little boys bent over headstones in Algerian cemeteries.
The country rejected the leftist social revolution when it elected Reagan, and that seemed to give permission to much of the left to forget the excesses, focus their hate on Reagan, and wish for another Woodstock.

Child vaccination rates are falling since the rollout of the Covid vaccines. Here are a few sources: CNN SciAm NYT
Funnily enough in the SciAm piece they mention that polio was nearly eradicated except for Pakistan and Afghanistan. What they don't mention is that in those places confidence in public health was harmed by the CIA using vaccination sites to try to track down bin Laden via family DNA. Public health types are happy to point the finger in this instance though. Public health institutions aren't implicated, after all.
The NYT piece mentions a stunning 43% child vaccination rate in the Philippines, and partially attributes it to a dengue vaccine that turned out to cause more harm than benefit.
None of those pieces even hint at pushing the Covid vaccine for kids as a source of general mistrust of all vaccination. I can't find any mainstream media source that even tries to compare costs and benefits of this vaccine for kids, not even one that stacks the deck in favor.
The temptation to give the middle finger to the Respectable Establishment is strong.
The only other somewhat viable middle finger choice in the primaries would have been Vivek, but he’s out.
