Interesting. I learned language A from my mom; language B from my dad; language C (English), which they used with each other; language D from school; and language E as an elective foreign language. And unlike what Bingbong said, I speak languages A, B, and C well enough that I could write (and actually have written) dissertations in them. I believe that my father learned a few obscure languages as part of his studies, which makes me think that, unless you yourself, as a parent, are proficient in multiple languages and language acquisition comes naturally to you, you shouldn't really (nor can you?) force your child to be a polyglot.
