The logic may even be persuasive if humans as a unit lived 400 years. But new humans grow up to have 100% diametrical values to their parents, largely as a product of media consumption. And so HBO forcing these new associations onto the youth is not a correction to the bad, it’s just a bad which happens to target a different cohort IMO.
Representation in the Last of Us
Because this show is highly popular and ongoing, I’m just going to coat everything in spoiler tags.
Do you think Ken Roth, the director of Human Rights Watch, might have some valid criticisms about Israel illegally taking over Palestinian land? Because that’s the academic who was cancelled by the ironically extremist funder of the Counter Extremism Project.
I watched Linus Techtip’s (that’s his full name name right?) video on dash cams. Made me realize how essential it is to have trustworthy people in our consumer economy. It’s time-consuming and difficult determining online which dash cam you can trust to work and be cost-efficient. Amazon doesn’t have an incentive to give you a working product and the old site:Reddit google trick can even be astroturfed. But Linus is trustworthy, and just as importantly both his reputation and financial incentives rely on his trustworthiness.
How amazing would it be if we had a Linus-type person for every economic decision! With all of our technology and media, we still find that the necessary ingredient is just some trustworthy dude who knows a reasonable amount giving his opinion.
The NSGP is designed to do what its lobbyists have lobbied for. The lobbyists are overwhelmingly Jewish groups. A sane analysis would not warrant 200mil a year for security enhancement grants when there is <1 terrorist attack at a synagogue per year. Since 2019 there have been three attacks which could conceivably be prevented at a synagogue. Many of the security upgrades are inessential and would have been purchased anyway, like security cameras and gates.
Synagogues are not more likely to face a crime, when looking at newspaper analysis and NIBRS reporting 1 2.
You’re assenting that there is an organized grift to steal government funding. Why do you suppose that there is not an organized grift to pay less taxes, like Phil Knight? The problem with grift is that it tends to take over other aspects of life, too, even making grifts to cheat God’s Law and not just taxes.
I don’t think “over react” conveys the magnitude of the exaggeration. “Hate groups declare” -> it was one guy. “A day of hate” -> it was putting up flyer. “Police order extra patrols” -> no one found any serious threat.
For example, if the story was titled “nation in horror as rabbi takes to street to hunt children on racist day of hating gentiles”, would this convey the singular incident of Baruch Nockowitz attacking a child? Or would it be a 1000x exaggeration which would benefit antisemites?
It was absolutely a hoax. The “Islamist parallel” would be a random Islamist with no following making a tweet where he told his followers to distribute pamphlets about how Christians are evil and/or control the world. Such an irrelevant tweet with no views or engagement is utterly mundane on social media. There are threats with more engagement made every day. I don’t even know if this guy is real or a fed but it’s not even possible to find his content except on his irrelevant telegram channel crew_319.
Remember that the threat was to… distribute fliers about how Jews have an outsize influence on media. 🤔
I would firmly say it is a hoax because (1) crew 319 is approximately one weird person, (2) the request was to distribute fliers, (3) the telegram post has only 1000 views when I saw it (absurdly low, and this was after it went viral) plus only four reactions. The hoax is in the nation-wide coverage that led to 150,000 tweets, because someone on telegram told his followers to distribute flyers
Awesome post. I had done some research but was too lazy to make a detailed post. Can you edit yours to include some of this information?
-
Between 75% and 97% of NSGP funding goes to Jewish groups. source 1 source 2 source 3
-
The group who “found” the extremism threat is Thomas Kaplan’s Counter Extremism Project. Kaplan is a big funder in getting us into war with Iran, funds the most prominent Jewish org 92nd street Y, and he funds (quite racist) ultra orthodox groups.
-
The threat originally came from Crew 319’s Telegram channel. Here Crew 319 talks about how he is just one person (2:30 in?) and has 20 subscribers on telegram.
-
Kaplan’s UANI lobbies to prevent medical goods from going to Iran through a name and shame strategy. Salon says he “is betting on war with Iran”
-
Kaplan has used his power to get academics fired for criticizing Israel’s war crimes in Palestine
-
“Kaplan, 47, regularly hobnobs with some of the most powerful Jewish philanthropists in New York. He and his wife, Daphna Recanati, a member of one of Israel’s wealthiest and best-known families, also support major scholarship programs for arts education at the Y and have given millions to other charitable causes in Israel and the United States. Separately, Kaplan—who wrote a 788-page Oxford dissertation on Malaysia’s geopolitical positioning during the Cold War before, in 1994, opening a firm that prospected silver mines with financial backing from George and Paul Soros”
-
The earliest chatter on the day of hate, after the ADL, was Lakewood-aligned orthodox groups and rabbis
-
In Florida, shortly before the day of hate, a man named Barry Nockowitz walked to a bus station and grabbed a four-year-old child and threw them against a wall. When the police came, he said he was “tired of the anti-semitism” and that he was looking for another child to attack. Barry was actually born Baruch Nockowitz, and he’s a Chabad-aligned Orthodox Jew. Baruch has a YouTube page still up, and on that page he posted a video of a black community leader speaking to a rabbi and talking how Jews and blacks ought to come together to fight a common enemy. Baruch almost certainly heard about the Day of Hate, and it’s likely his assault on the child was motivated by anti-gentile stochastic terrorism.
Some more info: we can be sure Kaplan is the primary funder of CEP because the advisor of his fund sits as the head, as well as a few other employees, and he is the only publicly-known funder. Ultra orthodox groups in NJ are no strangers to massive hoaxes and fraud. A few years ago they were caught doing welfare fraud in the millions and received no jail time, and the famous “cars for kids” commercial fraud is from Lakewood NJ.
very late edit for posterity and neuroticism: The CEP had a huge write up on this which, in addition to the news talking about “telegram channels investigated by the CEP”, make me 100% certain they were chiefly involved. However, I only saved passages from their article, because why would I have to save an archive if I can just google the passage? Welp, the original page that I read was deleted. The original article contained: “The event has been promoted in online channels by the Goyim Defense League (GDL), National Socialist Movement (NSM), Crew 319, and Clockwork Crew […] Crew 319 and Clockwork Crew are known to operate in Iowa (Des Moines) and Southern California, respectively.” This now brings up zero results from the CEP, which sucks because their original article was all about how they were the ones who started the investigation. In fact, it was linked to by the ADL.
I’m reading about something awful. Namely, SomethingAwful.
They left an indelible mark on internet culture with afaik <50,000 register users. I actually can’t find the number of register users in 2008 so I’m estimating from a bad graph. Compare this to just how many registered users are on Reddit or Tumblr, but how little culture is actually created there (versus shared there).
The forum had a $10 cost of membership and strict standards of posting:
See, since its inception Something Awful was built around strict moderation. Even its $10 entry fee was originally implemented not as a way to make money but as a way to keep problem posters from endlessly re-registering or creating throwaway gimmick accounts.
How strict? Well: Not capitalizing the beginning of a sentence? Probation. No punctuation? Probation. Post a YouTube link without including a description of the video's content? Probation. Not properly rehosting and resizing images? Oh you better believe that's a Probation
Whatever happened to paid forums? They are actually not a bad idea.
IMO the ancients were right to orient alcohol around (1) low-ABV nutritious beers & (2) wine during festivals and rituals. Alcohol is a positive valence and bonding amplifier. This has a use that can be ultimately prosocial, because it’s good to have members of a community enjoy festivals and bond during rituals. It may have also been useful as a reward at the end of a laborer’s dull day, turning the bland water of his evening into pleasant wine. The issue comes when the human realizes that it is alcohol that is the source of pleasure, and not what he is doing while consuming alcohol.
I learned recently that negative ions may improve mood. This is the strangest thing I‘ve read after phytochemicals from trees improving mood, certain bacteria in dirt improving mood, and certain essential oils demonstrably increasing alertness. Apparently, in certain environments like close to a waterfall and after a heavy storm, the air contains more negatively charged particles, although I don’t exactly understand how. I have a strong memory as a kid of feeling a strange sensation under a waterfall which I chalked up to the awe and humidity, despite not really being drawn to waterfalls much, but perhaps something else was going on.
I wonder what “this feels good but it can’t be for a reason” discovery science will support next. Perhaps wearing certain fabrics, grounding (feet on grass), being safely outside during a thunderstorm, wooden homes, and maybe being in spaces where people experience strong positive emotion will have some transference effect.
The under-5 proportion of white South Africans is so low that there‘s no point in a Rwandan-style genocide. In a century they will be less than 1% of the country. In two they will be infinitely rare, like seeing a full blooded native on the east coast. Also, the farm murders are clearly not just for robberies and are sadistic nature.
There’s this, specifically for back pain: https://www.bidmc.org/about-bidmc/news/2021/09/researchers-mind-body-program-outperforms-other-chronic-back-pain-treatment
“Elite” men will bother with any woman 6/10 or up, because sex is especially enjoyable when novel. This is like asking why the Sultan bothered with a haram when three of his wives were already hot.
Shaming is a solution because the fear of shame prevents the attempt at promiscuity to secure a higher value man they’ve deluded themselves into believing would settle. If the only way to get sex is through longterm relationship or marriage, and not through throwing your body at someone who isn’t actually going to settle, then promiscuity is reduced. It’s not as if in India, women don’t believe that they can get a better man than their husband; it’s that they can’t in actuality, and they are horny and just want a family. In other words if you stopped shaming women in India, many of them would do the same thing as in America: giving their body to men they have a low chance of securing, before realizing that time is quickly running out and their dating prospects are now worsened from lost time.
Dating apps have likely increased the self-valuation of women because of course the wealthy attractive guy will humor you until you intercourse. The problem I think is that it’s harder to go back to men in your league after such events, just like it’s harder to go back to natural bread after eating sugary white bread for years.
It’s unlikely that they will find someone to settle down with. Human behavior is notoriously resilient to actually determining what is best. The number of childless women in their 30s is increasing.
The reason we should say it is more of a female fault is that only female behavior can really be modified in this way. Female promiscuity is what has been shamed in every single past civilization because that works. You can’t shame a bachelor for being promiscuous; I mean you can try and he will just ignore it because women are better than shame. But every Muslim and Hindu and traditional Mormon family knows you can shame a woman and that it will work. Nothing short of excommunication from civilization will make a man not screw as many women as possible. But for women? Literally just the smallest amount of shame and reputational damage. That’s it. From a practical standpoint, it is a “how we treat women” problem.
A 28yo man with an excellent job, a wealthy nest egg, and a reasonable attractiveness and personality is an amazing catch for girls 18-38. If he has no intention of starting a family until 32, he can have a harem of women who are also intelligent and relatively successful. These women should know that they have no chance with him, and that it’s male nature to have as many women as possible. For some reason, most likely a glitch in the female brain that society used to remedy with expectations/shame, this doesn’t happen.
I find the “gender war” angle boring and unfruitful. We can think beyond culpability. The current setup simply doesn’t work from the standpoint of human nature and incentive. So a low income earner who is a dim prospect should simply find someone out of America, because there’s high odds his “stats matched” partner is being used by someone else or otherwise lacks the ability to discern her true level of sexual worth
This happens wildly often if you know college-educated non-religious women in their 20s. It’s hilarious, or sad, or both.
If you talk to women in their 20s you’ll learn that a chunk of them go on dates and expect a relationship with a man who has no intention of having one. This is because of social media induced higher standards, hyper-competitive labor market induced higher standards, the decline in slut shaming, and last but not least dating apps.
The solution (shaming, destroying feed-based social media, destroying dating apps, destroying female empowerment) would require a decade or more to see changes. The best thing an unattractive low income American man can do is simply find a foreign wife. Foreign wives have thousands of years of history and have birthed such great nations as Iceland. I’m not a fan of gender war terms, but American women are looking at pure stats when choosing a partner. There’s no reason why American men shouldn’t look at the pure stats when choosing a partner and pick a bilingual foreign woman with a low number of sexual partners.
The hard truth is that you have no chance of healing America’s problems in your lifetime. Simply do what is in your best interest. If you really have a low chance of finding an American wife, then look for a European, Argentinian, Brazilian, Chinese, Filipina, whatever chick who is interested in Americans. They will certainly be more conservative, thinner, less stressed than American women and your kids will be bilingual. Personally I would look for European, Argentinian, Uruguayan first.
The Counter Extremism Project is responsible for pulling it out of obscurity. What’s so odd (telling?) is that nobody really wants to link this back to them. This is billionaire Thomas Kaplan’s project. The reason for this spectacle is to reinforce the idea of Jewish victimhood status. Now, Kaplan has funding ties to ultra-orthodox yeshivas and rabbis. Bear with me on this leap: the reason for this spectacle is to increase the funding allocation for the Nonprofit Security Grant Program. This is a 200mil slush fund for nonprofits to increase their “security”, broadly defined, and Jewish groups want to increase it to 400mil. Since 2010 (when the fund was smaller), up to 97% of all funds went to Jewish groups — I have read numbers indicating 75% or 97% depending on year.
So it’s… actually much more nefarious. Like something out of James Bond. A billionaire mining magnet, who has previously bet his money on war with Iran (sacrificing thousands of American lives), and who funds actually racist ultra orthodox groups, has created (out of thin air!) a national spectacle involving a day of hate. Now, sure, it’s obvious stereotype of a gold-investing billionaire able to control the media like a puppet master and thanos snap his finger into existence more than 120,000 tweets on his day of hoax… but this is essentially what happened. And all for a nefarious end.
In short, the origin is one guy from Iowa, who does not belong to a group, who may or may not be real or a fed, who is only known for giving out free heil hitlers at the Iowa capitol building. His telegram post got limited engagement (four emotes) and only 1000 views when I saw it, up to 999 of which could be journalists / curious people and not supporters. The group who originally put this out is funded by a prominent billionaire, whose wife’s family runs a major bank in Israel, and who is best known for lobbying to get us into war with Iran and funding ultra-orthodox groups which want to make the conversion process more difficult. It is very interesting, I’ll make cited post later this week
You used to do things and have places to do them
Psychologically, humans work best by having delineated spaces for mental activity. The internet reduces the uniqueness and salience of these spaces. This is something that needs to understood if we’re talking about which era was best. Music stores, blockbusters, movie theaters, or even hanging out in a parking lot takes on more meaning when there is no competing stimuli input. Smartphones (why do we call them this again?) are a constant competing stimuli, and are manufactured to be addictive. The act of buying a video game or renting a movie is totally different when you don’t even have the possibility of glancing at a social media feed. Hanging out with friends is an insulated and calmer environment when you are not comparing to social media and posting the act on social media.
Albums and CDs can also act as unique objects that enhance the salience and memory of the music we listen to. From a UI perspective, Spotify is horrible for creating unique memory-spaces
They did. Then they declared that the absence of hate meant their warnings worked and they called it a day of resolve.
It doesn’t hinge on definitions, it hinges on the utility of language versus power dynamics.
When liberals think of definitions, they think about what a specialized academic body has defined. This is, in fact, not actually a definition. This is a “term of art” or jargon which can (at most) act as a lesser definition. A legal definition of argument is different than the real world definition of argument. The legal definers do not get to force their definition upon the normal, everyday majority usage. So it is with all terms of art.
Per a survey 20 years ago, the majority of people believe the word is rooted in male/female division. Only 10% bring up social roles or “socially defined”. A self-perception origin of the word only accounted for 19% of origin beliefs, but because only 42% of definitions supplied a statement on origin, this is more like 8%.
Now, the power dynamic today may be that the academics do get to foist their “social construct” definition on the word gender. For a time, there will exist a purgatory of definitions where the previous majority definers are tricked into believing that this is the real definition. But what will happen is that most people will discount the importance of “gender” as a word. It would be as if someone created a new word, “spashiboo”, which refers to a social construction — the majority will simply not care about “spashiboo” and go back to caring about the male/female sex distinction.
But why is the male/female sex distinction so important and resilient to attempts at obfuscation? And here is where the significance lies: words are used for their utility. There is hardly a definition in social affairs more important than the male/female division, because it dictates our sexual aims (and thus our evolutionary and biological aims, and our social aims), and it efficiently categorized the psychological differences between men and women.
This is more important than anything that the ivory tower gender wizards can brew in their textbooks. Normal people care about having sex and procreating, and they also want to divide humans according to useful social categories. The first reason mandates the priority of a male/female definition. The second reason encourages a male/female definition, because men and women act differently, and I have seen no evidence than MTF are more womanly in their psychological orientation (in fact I have seen evidence to the opposite: excelling in video games, typical male autism, masculine faces, etc).
