Speaking of, anyone have a steelman of model minority being a myth? I'm reading the wikipedia article and this clearly isn't it. It's honestly the most insane cope I've read in years. Nothing but nitpicking obfuscation and moral condemnation for noticing.

Tangential but there were in fact, no witches. The witch hunts of europe were started by a guy who wanted an excuse to get a bunch of women who disagreed with his preaching executed and spiraled out of control. The only crime any of the people accused of witchcraft actually committed was at worse disagreeing with a powerful person on theology.

I feel you're losing the plot here. We were talking about recent sanctions effect on the economy. Why are you bringing up the last decade when the discussion was about the last 2 years of economic growth?

5% growth over the past year is not hot? Any western country would consider it a miracle to have that growth rate. For reference america, which is the western country which best recovered from covid, has a growth rate of 2.5% over the past year. Honestly I was ready to accept your claim that the russian economy is doing bad until I saw the chart you linked. Now I'm wondering how they managed such impressive growth under such a restrictive sanctions regime.

It's a bit dishonest to confidently predict the reaction of a community you admit to knowing nothing about. It's also a bit dishonest to say in one post you're doing it out of peer pressure and in the next say it's your preference.

As the person who pointed this out, I don't think being inspired by a 4chan thread and even reposting stuff verbatim should in and of itself be considered trolling. There is upon occasion good points made on that website (I wouldn't spend so much time there if there weren't) and I'd rather not start a trend of sourcing from 4chan to be inherently suspect.

I have no idea why OP decided to convert a 4chan thread into a post on the motte but it's very amusing to me. While I certainly enjoy using 4chan, I wouldn't cite it as a source.
The wikipedia takes a different route to any of those and basically just argues this can't possibly be true because if it were then people would support policies we don't like.
The only point in the article where it even makes an attempt as disputing the facts of the matter is by saying that the 1965 immigration act lead to selection effects of rich asians moving to america, which I don't buy for a second for many reasons.
