His lifestyle is what made me get into his movies. He would eat the same meal for years, everyday at the same time, follow a strict routine, meditate and leave all his creative capabilities for his artistic work. Everyone on frog twitter was super charitable to him which is not the case for most deaths, especially artists.
His final words publicly were Jai Gurudev which is a slogan some use in India for various different things, in his case meditation. He squeezed as much out of life as one could, lived well.
David Lynch died yesterday which was terrible news. I have written dozens of short movie reviews here and may have even uploaded ones of Mulholland Drive and Blue Velvet. They are both great movies, unlike most I have seen, you actively think about them for hours on end and can have valid interpretations that differ a lot from others. I haven't watched much of him, I'll write a review of twin peaks once I start that.
This weekend is ufc 311, this is the best card of the year and features the absolute pinnacle of mixed martial arts. The main event is Islam Makhachev taking on Arman Tsarukyan in a rematch 5 years in the making. Islam is the best mma fighter on the planet alive, period. Technically, tactically and defensively sound, very different from his teammate and now coach Khabib Nurmagomedov. Khabib was a freak physical athlete like his current opponent Arman though I favor Islam. These two alongside Ilia Topuria represent a better future for the sport where people are not just gopd athletes but also very sound with their fundamentals.

East Asian iq is not markedly higher than Euro iq. The self selection for exam taking populations like those in china must have obviously caused some issues in the kind of traits they selected for. Besides the notions of fatter tails, there is far more than just iq that is helpful for a lot of tasks in a society.
What's the wider ramification of this?
Not much. People hated the race and iq talk because reactionaries did not wish for mass migration so pointing out group differences for many in a more niche camp was a way to ask for a smarter society. In Moldbugs case, pointing this out breaks the idea of equality within people and kills the secular god of progress as most explicitly believe that people are all equal by birth and any differences are forced on by society. Spandrell has written on this and he is right.
It is a sympton of better times where one does not have to tiptoe around reality like we did in 2021 but it will not lead to a lot. More popular public intellectuals like Taleb will keep denying group differences and even those who do get them will use them as explicit reasons for why future embryo selection must be equitable.
Spandrell outlines this exact thing in his essay politics of heredetarianism. The essay is on this exact topic and is worth reading in its entirety. People will just argue for the same bioleninist policies and want more migration from "smarter" nations. It is a motte and bailey fallacy on both sides.
Many on the hbd right point out hbd because they can defend that easier than they can defend the explicit ideal of sovereignty where a nation can reject any group in any number for any reason. I just dont think woke is a good word because people essentially took 90 percent of liberalism victories and then shunned the last 10 percent. This is not a call for a total retvrn to feudal landlord systems, the advances in society that liberalism advocated for are based on egalitarian ideas. Most people will still be left leaning if not far left due to the nature of society today. Napoleon did rise after the French Revolution yet France was one of the first countries that made demographic research hell by banning stats for ethnicities.
There is no return to the 90s or the early 2010s in my case. It is either more bioleninism or a post liberal world order, as a betting man, I would bet on the former simply because demographics now are worse.
I think that the more milquetoast Scott of today being willing to say this matters a great deal indeed.
It indeed is, he got his life wrecked for his blog where he tried to be as honest as he could be. Scott still had massive blindspots and was not completely honest about everything but given the volume of things he wrote and his contribution to the genesis of the motte, he did a much better job than he needed to. Being on substack and this temporary thermidor has allowed him to be more open.
I sincerely doubt that there are any Dark and Heretical ideas he holds but is forced to deny or decline to defend.
Not at all, Scott is a very smart, honest liberal. He is not a heretic and would at times even lose arguments in his own comment section to guys like Steve Johnson, Spandrell and Jim of blog.reaction.la but that is a minute part of the vast things he wrote. He could have chosen not to do the anti-reactionary q and a, even though I think his criticisms were incorrect, simply touching something like NRx is a display of his willingness to be honest.
I like Scott, and I agree with yarvins criticism of him which is fine because all of us have flaws, Scott is less flawed than most and I say that as an out and out reactionary.
Also on the thing about higher iq places, Asia which according to many has high iq people famously has a culture of iq denial where kids are forced to attend cram schools as anyone can ascend from brainlet to high status nation wide entrance exam prodigy with just "hard work", incels call this the just take a shower bro meme because a naturally good looking guy barely does much yet looks better than them. Not a hard bio determinist btw, plenty actually have gone from total scrubs to world beaters but the top 1 percent is 1 percent for a reason. I saw kids studying 14 hours everyday who did not get a good uni at all though all the ones who did get good uni studied as much on average.
These places will admit to group differences when in the US or whilst talking about migration as they want to justify why they left their own nation and why they are doing better than other ethnic groups.

I would suck a lot worse if I were weak on top of everything else, I watch other newbies suffer even getting through the warmups, I'm grateful to my past self for spending so much time lifting/climbing/rowing. My belief has been reinforced that strength is the master category, and will improve your experience in any activity.
Just make sure that you wear long rashguards, shower after each session and get a wrestling headgear to avoid long-term issues. You may not even need extra cardio work, in time you would be able to get through your rounds without being winded. I had to sit down in my car and wait for 5 minutes before I could drive back home my first wrestling practice. Modern BJJ is submission wrestling where the takedown is a big part, rash guards and MMA have made the sport far more fun.
As long as you avoid injuries, staph and always try to be on top, you are golden. BJJ is notoriously slow in terms of belt progression but it is the only martial art you can do till you drop dead. I cannot rejoin MMA for now due to my shoulder and time constraints.
I'll see if this is a practical way to track progress
Not sure, but if you care enough to track then you will be Demian Maia among those with the same mat time. Most are just floating in a state of trance, caring this much alone makes a big difference. Many people just butt-scoot and play guard. Getting a takedown to a fully locked choke is good.
I know I'm the one who is wrong here. At one point a couple weeks back, when I was getting a little down about just getting worked in every roll, I wrote in my notebook the goal of landing one submission by the end of January, and that I would wait until then to reassess
It can be demoralising, as you get better, you will start rolling with pros which is even more demoralising but we all get better. Do not get down about this though, many in your area who join are people who have wrestled before, some have judo bases so they know some ground game. Great update regardless man, I hope to hear how this month goes.
I have a two-pronged approach where I want to get better at harder tech which is math followed by then machine learning and softer tech which would be backend and frontend. I try to devote more time to my soft stuff. It's just that the things I do on mathacademy are easier to track and quantify with built-in dashboards whereas I have to keep manual track of my web dev stuff. I want to be employable asap, I try to get 4 hours off programming besides my math work in daily.
Do you find it is helping you in your job/job search?
I would guess in the long term it should help, I eventually want to work on machine learning, in case it becomes a deterrent, I would change course and reduce my workload, for now I should be able to do the pre-requisite math for Machine Learning stuff by march end and I should be through with a lot of my boot.dev and the current front end book plus another that is javascript-based.
I do enjoy it which is something I would have never said about doing math or puzzles, it is quite different from leetcode, worth checking out.

I did work more last week so had 3-4 decent days of work despite travel. I am now in the top 4 percent of mathacademy users in terms of work done on a weekly volume, they have categories and I just hit emerald, the highest tier. The site's most productive user ever did 200 xp sustainably daily and I can get near that if I just start work on time and sleep well. As of now I average out about 600-700 xp a week and my aim is to do 180xp per day for 6 days which is 1080, 600 already puts me in top 20 going by the blogpost. This is not a big achievement, but I still think I did ok as opposed to my regular which is inactivity, I hope I can hit 1100 XP a week soon.
Beyond that I also started doing pullovers again and will do them every time I workout, with light weights since I want to keep my form clean, I got injured doing them last may and want to not be afraid of stuff again. Anyhow I am running late again, have a fun week.

Check out this pdf by the Mathacademy called the Mathacademy way, very thorough document they themselves use, also get a subscription for jr once the kids are old enough, will sort all your math needs.
I have paused all reading since I want to get through my Tantra Illuminated courses on the Near Enemies of Truth. This is based on a book of the same name released last year by the guy behind Tantra Illuminated, Christopher Hareesh Wallis where he points out common mistakes many make on their spiritual journey. This book is also a supplementary text in the course. His other book many read and liked was titled Tantra Illuminated. My other course is the history of yoga which has Tantra Illuminated as supplementary reading.
Here are some I recommend
- Ramayana by Goldman.
Ramayana but in a more litrary form as opposed to a poem form, Goldman is a very capable sanskrit scholar and Lord Rams story is one that defines the high civilization my place once was with Lord Ram being a physical embodiment of everything holy and Aryan. The story like any epic is simple, you learn about the mortal struggles of literally god where he is unaware of his own divine self and foregoes everything good in life to do whats right.
- The Watchmen (good graphic novel)
Classi graphic novel every hispter recommends for good reason. DC also released an animated movie on it besides a live action movie by zack snyder nearly 15 years ago, a very skeptical take on the age old superhero trope, it is a very highly rated work.
- Art of the personal essay by Phillipe Lopate
A very broad but light collection of essays from ancient to modern times on a variety of different topics. Very well Curated, my copy of it was "borrowed" by my cousin sister so I need to order it again to read all of the essays but the ones I did read were fantastic.
- The Tyler Digest
The good parts are really funny, insightful and personal. Owen Cook, a super smart philosophy student from canada was mysterys student who was short, ugly, ginger and balding, the book presents a collection of his classic internet posts detailing his journey from a guy who did not get laid in 2 years of tryng to a guy who then later lives up to his moniker of Tyler Durden inspired by fight club. Tyler was the most important PUA of all time where in he breaks down in fine detail what made cold approach tick and his own struggles around it. It is more about his journey and the world around him than pickup tactics, a raw unfiltered look at Owen Cook in his finest hour before RSD blew up.
The Tyler Digest is also why I detail out my life here. The book is simply a loose collection of various posts Owen made in chronological order compiled by another guy. He starts off as this spergy loser who by the en is a different man, calm, relaxed, competent yet still deeply aware of what plagues guys like me and him. I want something like this too so that by the end of 4-5 years, I can look back at what I was and how I saw life, things I did and the insights I earned from them. 4 years ago for instance, same date, I posted about my oneitis on one of these wellness wednesday threads and how over the moon I was because she threw me a bone vs now as someone who is somewhat ok at cold approaching girls and does not attach his self-worth to what some girl online thinks of himself. Funnily enough, I got introduced to all this on themotte so it all ties up in the end.

I had 2 terrible fucking weeks of bad output and zero discipline due to new years, had a lot of people visiting Rajasthan, I went out every other night nearly, so back on the thing now, my aim is still the same of 180 xp of mathacademy where 1xp should take you 1 minute which means 3 hours, 2 hours each for boot.dev and this book learning web design for frontend. I got like 2 good days. Did not workout, rehab or meditate at all either so overall terrible week, worse since I started this all back in November.
I did sleep earlier yesterday, wake on time, and bang out math and backend yesterday. I have three more days left in the week, so I am aiming to get the remaining three right. I hope by next week I can have four good days of my six-day week and sleep on time.
I will also step back from culture war posting, just not worth it, a lot of it is fake too, I spoke with this adrian dittman guy who everyone thought was musk about NRx so that was funny. Logging this for posterity more than anything else. I have a therapy session scheduled for next week, my sessions are mostly about my productivity and to ensure that I abide by the plan and my timetable, I log what I do daily for those reasons.
Apologies if my post has typos, I did a 5-hour math session just now, it was supposed to be 3 as each xp should take 1 minute but I kinda felt under the weather today so it dragged on, took 5 hours to get 180 xp.

As for the tech right, I think recent events have actually demonstrated their lack of power.
Nerds never wield power unless it is justification for the regime, thermidor was fast approaching and South Asian abuse of migration is a Schelling point most would agree on, may not be for Hindus (H1B) but Afghans and Pakistanis are people with terrible reputations, you can go after them and get easy wins. It gets hard to defend things like bachhabaazi, cousin marriage alongside rape gangs.

The tech right seems to be bending the knee to the traditional right, in a way musk fighting for the h1b made others on it stick with him and similar people like Joe Lindsdale are now posting similar things.
This is very surface-level info, I post this because we are currently in the midst of what one may call a thermidor of sorts where people stopped using pronouns in their bios online and saw a rise of post-censorship worldview, the slop by James Lindsay which got him recognition gets him trashed whilst Musk posts Keith Woods on his timeline. The attempts by the online right got derailed badly post Charlottesville and Jan 6, the latter happening exactly 4 years ago. My main aim here is to get some perspective as to how things were during these two incidents during 2017 and 2021.
Edit - forgot to add Moldbug came up with a new piece directed to alon against the H1B and the O1 that was surprisingly not passive, I quite agreed with most points in it. Elon also gave a meek nod to Tate's LARP of a political run and posted memes about feds on Jan 6 and even questioned the deaths of officers on that day, to the point where the llm embedded in twitter tells you that the people listed all died of natural causes. Interesting times on Twitter.

I have criticised people in the past for low iq anti semitism, the kind Dan Bilzerian indulges in, pointing out collectivist sentiment is not a call for ill behavior towards them, its just something that most never wish to even consider as a real possibility. This is the de facto behavior in India, I do not expect for others to be markedly different. Does not help at all that boomercon positions in the US are far more philo semitic than what you expect.
