In college you need to scout for multiple "save room" bathrooms around campus that are reliably clean and empty. I had three scattered across forgotten floors of engineering school buildings plus one in the law school library basement.
You're right in general, but some of it is just that high paid tech workers don't want to live in Loudon County over the other nearby areas. My prior job was for sw infra engineering work on a (first party, non-AWS/GCP) data center in that area, where physical proximity to the building didn't matter for my role but did for people on teams I worked with every day. Our office was in Herndon (Fairfax County, right on the other side of the border), and I lived with the other yuppies in Arlington.

Appalachia never got the Southern Strategy firmware update so national party affiliations are all a bit fuzzy. If anything it's surprising that this guy waited until 2022 to switch unlike other state politicians who did so in the 2016~18 election cycles.

Essentially all of the Claude-authored rsync commits are for CI and the test suite, so it's more like AI failed to catch regressions introduced in response to a huge wave of (AI-generated) CVE reports than AI introducing those bugs itself.

The FACE Act was nominally supposed to be that universal law despite the name, but as far as I'm aware no one has ever been convicted under that law for disrupting religious worship, it has only ever successfully been used against the pro-life movement.

I watched ~10 minutes from the middle of the first video and this looks super fake. There's no way a small/fast model could seamlessly navigate a 3d space using wasd+mouse (which is extremely complicated compared to the controls available to a self driving car), and then it goes and does things like jumping over a wall that was visually obstructed without pausing for a second. It also switches between using shift and right click to dash, which makes absolutely no sense for an agent to do.

Not sure you realize how late sunrises are in the western edge of the Eastern time zone. It would be ~9AM in nearly all of Michigan, nearly all of Indiana, large parts of Ohio/Kentucky and western PA (Pittsburgh would get to 8:40 at worst). Even Atlanta would be after 8:30 for a few weeks in December.

This is possibly worth its own top level post at some point but AdGuard is currently fighting what looks like state actor attempts to censor archive.is (it's not clear which state if any is actually responsible, but they at least claim to represent French regulators). AdGuard responded pretty well in this case but the general method of spamming CSAM reports to censorship-friendly regulators scales much better than most private internet infrastructure middlemen can handle.
Even if the worst outcome was avoided, CA ballot propositions are still the biggest institutional mistake in the history of organized democracy.
Prop 38 was one guy giving himself $4billion in taxpayer funding because he knew voters would see the word immunology and think "COVID=BAD" while ignoring the bizarrely specific qualifications in the proposition text.
