Is asking questions about a potential project allowed here?
I want to setup a basic home networking/security lab. I have a bunch of old computers, and I have a few years of experience in IT and cybersecurity.
My goal is to have some stuff I can pentest and just generally mess around with to build my skills.
I think I’m just overwhelmed with the options and the different guides out there.
Maybe this is better suited to the Wednesday Wellness thread, but what is a good workout routine for an overweight forty year old man? I actually love lifting. I did power lifting in high school and would love to do the “big four” (bench, squat, deadlift, overhead) in addition to assistance exercises. There are so many plans and progressions out there. It’s overwhelming.
Is Kenneth Gainwell an example of nominative determinism?
Interesting. I wonder if there will be any push from the international community to either boycott or move the Olympics and World Cup. I don’t think it will succeed, but I wouldn’t be surprised at some push for it.
I find myself thinking of this comment often. I am having a hard time not being happy about the misfortunes of the people I consider “my enemies” and the “bad guys.” I know it’s wrong, and I catch my thinking, but it comes so naturally, almost like an instinct.
I also struggle with my temper. I’m not hot tempered, per se, but I get aggravated easily and have a hard time controlling it.
Finally, I am having a hard time praying and easing Scripture daily. I am attempting to pray the Daily Office but finding the time and effort is hard.
Sorry, I really only meant to post the first paragraph, but it turned into me whining and venting.
And don't even get me started on phone gambling. The idea of people losing huge sums of money without ever leaving their house or talking to anyone is horrifying to me.
The widespread legalization of sports betting, and to a lesser extent the ubiquity of fantasy sports, have largely ruined sports media coverage. You can’t watch ESPN or listen to a sports talk show or podcast without seeing or hearing numerous gambling ads. Most networks have at least one show dedicated to gambling. Even normal sports coverage (NFL Sunday and similar) is constantly scrolling lines and prop bets as they talk about each team.
It used to be that just some people would talk about it, and they always seemed insufferable. Now it’s a major topic of sports talk, to the point where the actual games and outcomes are largely considered secondary to the lines and the spread.
If you’re a Browns fan, you gotta be feeling down. Since they came back into the league in 1999, it’s been nothing but a slog. They’ve played three playoff games in that time. And they think that maybe, finally, this is their time. And then this past week happens and Watson happens and it’s just the same old Browns.
I don’t have major hopes for the Patriots this year. I’d like them to be competitive, and I’d prefer that to stinking up the joint again and getting a good draft pick. I’d rather see them try, and to build a winning attitude, and use that to attract talent and keep building.
That said, if they get to 2-0, I’ll start to get excited. Again, they’re not winning a title (okay, in my heart of hearts I want that to be the case and a part of me will always believe it can happen), but if they can compete for a playoff spot and play spoiler, while I pig out on wings and beer, I will take it.
Thanks!
Thanks!
Men get PTSD flashbacks to all the normalized relational violence they've suffered.
Can you please expand on this a bit? I’m not sure what you mean.
This is amazing and very insightful. I think you hit the nail on the head with the idea of being aware of the choice to sin just before it happens, so you can address it. Thank you.
“You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be children of your Father in heaven.”
This is an aside, but as an extremely imperfect Christian who is trying to be better, how do you do it? I don’t think I hate anyone, but I certainly have a hard time loving and praying for my enemy. I’ll take any advice you got.
