To me, the great downside of a child with down's syndrome is the worry that no one will take care of them if the parents die first. That they will end their life in misery, pain, neglect, and crying for their parents. Normal siblings can help guard against that scenario, but that's passing a heavy responsibility to someone else without their adult consent.
When you think about having dinner, your primary concern is over their (likely nonexistent) Jewish customers? Israel and Palestine seem to be living rent free in your head.
Personally I would just avoid those cuisines if the problem is pervasive to you, surely Oslo has a lox sandwich or others foods that are free of such baggage?
+1 for pragmatic and polite right
Can you give a quick summary of the Balkan varietals?
You said, "Don't they tend to have issues with fine motor control?" You meant Arabs, correct?
Whoops, I was looking at the wrong parent comment, from Randomranger. You clearly meant downs syndrome.
Arabs have issues with fine motor control? How do they write, then?
Grimace and reluctantly settle for medium-well steaks.
A self-made dictator, probably has to be competent to seize power. What do you think about monarchies?
Getting into devastating wars is part of Russia's time-honored history, they do get a bit wrecked but always end up surviving, though the elites may get shuffled up. The wars may even be a source of eugenic pressure keeping the IQ high, as the generally low IQ front line chaff is killed off.
If a man walks out on the street with a knife to his own throat and talks about killing himself, are nearby people obligated to stop him? Assuming the man appears weak and otherwise incapable of harming anyone else except himself. In your argument everyone who stands by idly with the capacity to stop him is a murderer.
If we cared more about IQ than TFR, we could levy a yearly tax on each living child. Would be pretty bad for our pension systems though.
Then there's unbillable hours like finding clients, travel, maintenance of looks, etc. Some clients might reimburse these admin hours and some might not. No health insurance and no 401K match plan. Money is usually untaxed so that's a big plus, but it's probably hard to get a mortgage with this type of cash income.
What is this stinky stuff?
I think the question is, why is there no sympathy for Russians wanting to escape conscription when there are so many handouts for US minorities?
One answer may be white guilt over slavery. Since Russians are thought of as white, or maybe white with some asian influences, they are part of the oppressor class and are ineligible for the sympathies of white guilt.
I'd like to hear that tangent. Was Russia's leadership class always better or is just relatively better in the present, due to the culture wars in the West?
The low IQ populations are also presumably the enemy. So, if the West appeases low IQ-populations that are internal enemies, why not Russia too?
@aardvark2 I believe a majority of Motte posters would say no appeasement to both low-IQ populations and Russia, so the view is internally consistent.
As for Motte posters who are both anti-Russia and pro-low IQ populations, I cannot speak for them.
Yeah, there are high-IQ women still having above replacement amounts of children, but overall they do not seem to be having enough children to offset falling TFR overall. And they are possibly being outbred by low-IQ women, as IQ has been dropping since the 70's or 80's.
It would help, but I think it's mostly wasted effort. One less story, against the weight of Youtube, Facebook, Instagram and all other addictive social media glorifying prostitution. Even President Trump is a poor role model in this aspect, as a serial monogamist twice divorced, saying "grab 'em by the pussy". If we cannot expect good stories from a top male role model, there's little point in worrying about some magazines.
Yeah, the stories matter, I agree on that. Unfortunately in an age of Youtube and Instagram, anybody can write a story and have it reach a large audience. We can no longer restrict media story content like how news outlets hid FDR's polio from the public. We can restrict technology and outside content like the Amish, but I don't think thats a reasonable solution.
I agree that it is defecting from the sustainable family ideal in that it cheapens or tarnishes the value of sex provided by family oriented mothers. However, there is nothing to be done about it. There will always be a man with resources willing to trade his excess resources for sex from a woman. It has been, and always will be. I view polygamous marriages, serial monogamy, and concubines as extensions of defecting.
It is suboptimal for society but probably optimal for a good amount of women. Let's say you have two life paths to choose from as a young, high-IQ, non-obese woman:
-
Career focus with upper middle class luxuries and you can be in a dating paradise for 20-30 years where men jockey for your attention. Optionally pop out a geriatric pregnancy or two when you're around 40. Retire in reasonable comfort and wealth.
-
Raise five kids as a tradwife and hope your husband doesn't leave you for a younger, prettier woman later on.
It's a no brainer when the risks and rewards are this unbalanced. High IQ women logically want a life of luxuries and comfort over the uncertain guarantees of raising a large family, outside of niche religious or cultural pressure to marry young and bear many children.
Even if I accept your argument that a 100% safe rescuer murders by idleness, it only applies theoretically. 99.99% of the time, it can't be proved in a court in the climbing example. What if the rescuer has phobia or some other type of mental issues that paralyzes them with inaction? Without supernatural knowledge of the rescuer's state of mind and intent of action, proving murder by neglect is not possible.
Oh? But what if the cliff is unstable and the potential rescuer is maybe not strong enough to lift the other person? Say, a 100 pound woman and a 300 pound man hanging off the cliff?
Or even if the situation is reversed, but the man has a fear of heights. And so on. Inaction as murder or even hostile intent is a hard sell.
Oh, yes it makes sense he would attempt to equal or surprass Tolkien, GRRM wrote about how he thought he could never equal Tolkien in the preface to his short story collection as a young writer.
I like some of his short stories, A Song for Lya is one of my favorites. It has an interesting ending! I bet he wants to land an ending to ASOIAF which is just as good.

Ah, I see, didn't know they were that open about their Zionist opposition. Is Palestinian or Somalian food that common in Oslo that it's hard to avoid? It is nonexistent in my neck of the woods.
Also, have you ever been to Japan? Some restaurants or hot spring resorts have "no foreigners" or "Japanese only" posted at their entrance. Is that also bothersome?
