Not to defend Chapek, but seems to me most of Disney’s problems were Iger problems.

Iger did the disastrous Fox deal.

Iger pushed into the disastrous streaming business.

Iger forced a fight with DeSantis over culture war issues that have soiled the Disney brand.
I don’t know why an activist investors hasn’t put two and two together that Iger is the one who needs the boot.

The complexity of AI is part of the argument against AI. That is, we don’t understand exactly how it works and therefore the alignment problem is a concern.

Medicine — well the answer is it depends. The older a practice the more I trust it. I like lindy things.

But it isn’t just climate. I think when it generally comes to predicting complex phenomena we overstate our ability to predict things.

Can we predict the weather tomorrow? Yes and no. There are just too many variables and randomness in the system to be exact but have a decent approximation.
Climate is more complex. We don’t know how to measure every variable. We don’t know what variables should be included. We don’t know how much each variable should matter.
Chess is simple. There are 9 kinds of pieces and 64 squares. Climate is a lot more complex.

I personally find therapeutic culture revolting. It seems overwhelmingly coddling and feminine to me. So I am presupposed to believe it leads to bad outcomes. And from that predisposition I could make arguments that adversity leads to growth and therapy is used as an excuse to avoid adversity (eg difficult thing is bad for my mental health) thereby stunting growth making people miserable in the long run.
But is it true? Are there cultures that haven’t gone headfirst into therapy culture that haven’t seen the same deleterious outcome?

I’ve long thought small amounts of bullying are useful. Helps you learn how to deal with adversity and not take yourself too seriously.
The problem is the adult figure needs judgement—when is the bullying small enough that the benefit outweighs the cost.

You go back. I’m not rejecting it per se. Sometimes it takes time to lay out evidence or thoughts. But taking 100 words to say something that can be said in 10 words isn’t quality. It is bad writing.
My point isn’t that short form or long form is better. My point is that short form or long form can both be good or bad and choosing which one is dependent on what needs to be communicated.

Also it is funny to juxtapose this discussion of PMC and the NPC discussion. Yes, conservatism is abhorrent to the PMC because it isn’t fashionable and a key tenet of belonging to the PMC is don’t be gauche.
Trying to win the aspiring PMC is trying to win people whose goal isn’t belief in something but belief in someone.

The reason it is important is because it resonates with people and is culture warish. The question is why does it resonate? Is it the song, the politics, the singer, or a combo of the three?

Long effort posts are often just meandering posts filled with unnecessary asides. We shouldn’t encourage length but quality. Sometimes length and quality go hand and hand. Sometimes brevity and quality go together.
The problem is we have this idea that short equals low effort (and therefore perhaps subject to moderation) whereas long equals high effort. I’d rather we judge based on “is this thoughtful.”
Is that really true? Sure the stuff Disney has put out is garbage. But it’s because of the people Iger put in charge.
Also Disney is unique. They make a lot from parks. Chapek didn’t do a great job there though.
