My recollection which I will try to dig up is one of the Apollo founders

It was just sarcasm on my part

This has been the biggest complaint albeit some donors said something to the effective of “I failed when I was silent when woke wasn’t hitting my group.” Question will be whether they put their money where their mouth is today

The most important anniversary of course

And you have people here suggesting maybe that is unfair. Think about that for a second.

X believes Y implies Z. Of course, their belief is batshit insane. So if A is Y, then yes to X that is evidence of Z. But the problem isn’t A; it is X having an idiot view.

So he claims. I wouldn’t follow advice from this poster. Risking tax fraud for…small sums of money is insane.

There were some debunkings; some of the debunkings (eg re Fulton county and the “water main” story) were “debunked” which means they weren’t at all.

It seems to me there is a trade off between inclusivity and tolerance. Tolerance permits the majority to arrange society as they like while permitting effectively opt out whereas inclusivity encourages society to either be neutral or even adopt according to the minority.

You do realize that’s not a quibble? It goes to the very heart of your argument.

But holding him up as proof (ie the guy who oversaw the election is a Republican and therefore it was on the up and up) isn’t the convincing argument people think it is.

Isn’t there something between omnipotent and feckless? The deep state has some power and can influence outcomes on the margin. The president has some power and can influence things on the margin.

I’m never moved by people like Raffensperger. If there was fraud, it means he failed! There is an incentive for him to not look closely. And quite frankly, some of the denials that came from his office (at least live — haven’t looked retrospectively) were inconsistent with the truth.

I don’t know there was fraud. My belief is it was impossible to know and unless you had proof Biden needed to become president.

But it was “weird” and we shouldn’t be encouraging “weird” elections. We used to count elections within hours of the polls closing. Why can’t we do that again?

You are citing to a laughable post encouraging straight up fraud. Often, the IRS doesn’t jail people. They do when the conduct is frequent and knowingly. The person in the post you cite will probably go to jail (if that person is even real). People like Hunter (whose CPA is basically saying “woah dude” go to jail for a long time.

So basically Hunter did something that any normal American would’ve gone to prison for a long ass time, the DOJ tried its best to prevent charges from ever being filed, they even seemed to conspire with Hunter in Delaware to slap him on the wrist, but now because of public pressure they are forced to indict him in California.

But of course that now will prevent Hunter from testifying before Congress and will anyone be surprised if when no longer useful the DOJ enters a plea deal (more painful than Delaware but only marginally so)?

Trying to say “it works for both sides” ignores the massive purposeful missteps re Hunter Biden. His lawyers were willing to extend the SOL but DOJ let them expire!

I think Joe was an awful father to his sons. He used them as props after their mother died. He pushed his known drug addled son into “the family business.” What kind of dad pushes his clearly incompetent son into business with Eastern European oligarchs to make dad a buck or two?

I’m responding to a statement saying there should be one state with Palestinians and Jews. Once you give Palestinians control over Israel, it is likely game over for the Jews there (hence my example)

And ideally when the two wolves and lamb vote for what’s dinner they will settle on grass.

But I’m not holding out much hope for the lamb.

They would come to the US almost certainly.

Well, I think the idea is if you are claiming Palestine will control the area currently controlled by Jews the result will likely be not the mass expulsion of Jews but the mass murder of Jews.

I deeply regret the Republicans didn’t win the Senate in 2022. Rand Paul would’ve made (justly imo) Fauci’s life a living hell.

Hey Hunter is posting on LessWrong. We should ask him if his dad is really going to run for president again!

Joking aside, terrible idea. While it’s true the IRS doesn’t audit everything, they do try to automate certain things as much as possible. Matching up receipt of return stating X dollars owed with zero dollars paid is easily automated.

Once there is a pattern, it is relatively easy to establish willful attempt to avoid paying the tax which is a criminal offense. Of course bragging about the criminal scheme on line is even worse (assuming not a Fed or Hunter Biden).

Analogizing corporations to S Corp’s, LLCs, and Partnerships entirely misunderstands the Code.

There is a fundamental difference between pass through taxation on one hand and corporate taxation on the other. When it comes to a partnership, the theory of the case is that while there are entity level aspects it is an aggregate of the partners (ie the partners themselves are earning the income) and therefore there is no entity level tax. An LLC merely defaults to partnership taxation but of course with both partnerships and LLCs taxpayers can elect to treat them as corporations.

Contrast this with a corporation which is seen as a separate entity for US tax purposes. See Moline Properties. This entity is taxable on its income. Only in extremely limited situations are it’s shareholders taxable on its income (generally related to earnings of a foreign corporation — these rules are necessary to prevent a taxpayer from creating holes in the US tax system).

And the key constitutional point is that a taxpayer by and large has a choice what form to operate in. If he wants to be subject to phantom tax (but only one layer) then using a pass through. If he doesn’t want to be subject to phantom tax, then use a corporation (but now subject to so called double tax).

So it is easy to say “this is a slam dunk case” if you aren’t familiar with the august and long standing differences between pass through taxation and corporate taxation.

To be clear, I’m not suggesting ex post facto clause (pretty clear that’s a criminal law only issue). Instead fifth amendment. The law there is less settled (though a 90s case would need to be reinterpreted)

Yes but why not overturn since those rulings are bullshit.
