That presumes much. First it presumes that these people even have expertise. Next it presumes that the incentive structure within the organization will lead to the right results. Third, it assumes that there are not other sources of expertise that may even be greater.

Yes tyranny of the majority is a problem. But so is giving a bunch of unchecked power to a bunch of unelected bureaucrats for decades.

I think you may be wrong in certain areas. First, DOGE is part of government (read the EO). Second, the president can give info to whoever he wants. Third, the President can certainly stop payments where the authorizing legislation is broad and open ended (eg 50m to foster goodwill in LATAM is not a command to spend xx dollars on a specific project in LATAM)

I hate the argument “it’s a small number.” Because many things are a small number. Add up ten “small numbers” and maybe it’s meaningful. Four years of eliminating foreign aid taking into account interest is probably at least 300b of debt we don’t incur.

The other problem with that hypo (which is the original problem with the Singer hypo) is that it is very rare to encounter a drowning child (ie the problem is discrete and solvable) whereas the poor will always be with us (ie the problem is unbounded). Applying the logic of the first to the second is wrong headed.

Cartels in part benefit from overall size since the Mexican government has to generally play ball. If you could reduce the cartels 95% in 60 days then the Mexican government might actually be interested in not sharing power.

I think this is missing the point. If you want to make massive cuts you need to tackle entitlements. But if you just want to bend the cost curve whilst removing growth killing regulations, you need to tackle things like what DOGE is doing.
