Primarily relevant to here through the discussion of what people claim to find attractive vs. choose, but also considers various other measures of attractiveness. I dont agree with all these analyses but think its worth posting simply for considering the topic in a lot more detail then Ive previously seen.

An honest question: are you neuroatypical in any way?
No. I lack many tribal instincts, but I have fairly good instincts re: other minds and their agendas.
I may be atypical in that it was found I'm very good at spotting visual errors such as subtly wrong film aspect ratio, a landsdcape photograph being off horizontal by 1°, etc. Most people look at the photo and think it's okay. To me, the 1-2° it's off seems wrong, and looking at a 16:9 film squashed into 4:3 torture.
Also, I'm believed to be very good at finding mushrooms, which involves finding the right shape of the right color among all the visual noise of the forest floor.
It's really not easy at all. Back when we often went picking mushrooms as a family of 5, I'd often find 40-50% of the total.
Being fast on your feet, which I am isn't helpful - the bottleneck is processing all the visual information. If I hurry through a forest with mushrooms, I'll fail to spot practically all of them. E.g. I walk at ~1.5-2 kph when searching for them.
