Then I get to the kinoplex and I am shown a rather dull and prosaic romantic comedy about a man dating a Latina. If there are supernatural elements, I’m not sure where they went.

There’s indeed been reactions on this front, that the horror element of the film was not the supernatural, but rather that of the Latina Girlfriend Experience (or dating young women in general), especially if you’re unaccustomed to dealing with female coffee moments:

  • In ${CurrentYear}, you have little social and/or legal recourse against a chick’s histrionics.

  • Your crush, the Wonderful waifu of your eyes, may very well be some other guy’s side-piece thanks to polygyny and female mate-choice copying.

  • A chick you’re dating could be lying to you about things such as her father dying of cancer, and you may never find out if not for random luck due to your one-itis and lack of information otherwise. Plus, YWBTA if you didn’t #Believe her.

Along similar lines, a screenshot from this film has launched a thousand meme variations. They range from captions like "how your gf looks at you when you ask her to block the guy who 'raped' her in 2019” to the more mundane “how your gf looks at you when you give her solutions instead of validating her feelings.”
