Maybe at some point I will, but for the moment I don't feel it would be ethical to get involved with a woman if I don't have a coherent plan for taking care of her, which would involve not living paycheck to paycheck, and I'm just not that functional of a person, and by the time I get all that sorted out (if the world hasn't already ended by then) I'd probably be chasing women like half my age or something, so it kind of feels vain to even assert it as a possibility.

Hmm, I don't know you that well, or what you struggle with. I'd say generally writing yourself off as a loss in a big area is a recipe for unhappiness. You can be pretty dysfunctional and still do OK. Plenty of guys I know are scrapping by paycheck to paycheck or odd job to odd job, and they have steady live in 6/10 gfs. In the modern age, you don't really have to fully financially support a girl, more like 50% support her.

Sorting your stuff out can also happen faster than you think. You don't have to solve everything, just figure out enough coping mechanisms and strategies to get what you want. If you really try you can change a lot in just a year or two. And if you're worried about the age gap, plenty of asian girls look your type into their early thirties. You got options man.

Sorry for Wellness Wednesday posting in the Fun Friday thread. But almost everyone can grow into being able to get what they want. Denying that is just choosing familiarity over happiness.

In many civilized countries, prostitution is legal, and arguably even cheap (Melbourne: 30 minutes = 130 Australian dollars = 93 US dollars).

But I don't want a prostitute, I want a virgin wife who ~can't leave.

Oof. If that's what you really want then get rich and have a mail order bride. Otherwise settle for non-virgin, leaving somewhat under your own influence like the rest of us.

Why are you called The Motte?

A motte is a stone keep on a raised earthwork common in early medieval fortifications. More pertinently, it's an element in a rhetorical move called a "Motte-and-Bailey", originally identified by philosopher Nicholas Shackel. It describes the tendency in discourse for people to move from a controversial but high value claim to a defensible but less exciting one upon any resistance to the former. He likens this to the medieval fortification, where a desirable land (the bailey) is abandoned when in danger for the more easily defended motte. In Shackel's words, "The Motte represents the defensible but undesired propositions to which one retreats when hard pressed."

On The Motte, always attempt to remain inside your defensible territory, even if you are not being pressed.
