Small-Scale Question Sunday for October 18, 2026

Do you have a dumb question that you're kind of embarrassed to ask in the main thread? Is there something you're just not sure about?

This is your opportunity to ask questions. No question too simple or too silly.

Culture war topics are accepted, and proposals for a better intro post are appreciated.

Skateboarding back in the days of the X-Games I was addicted to; and I used to skate when I was a teenager, along with a younger cousin of mine.

Is skateboarding still a real thing? When I was a kid it was at the peak where it had been domesticated enough that skate brands and stores and whatnot were everywhere aesthetically, but it wasn't so dangerous that people got arrested. Now it mostly just feels like another kind of gymnastics, with classes and parks and camps and instructors.

No idea where it is today. I’ve heard the industry crashed over politics. Don’t know where that leaves things though. Like you I remember when there were skateboarding stores in the mall as a kid. My cousin and I would save our money up to upgrade our stuff: getting the Spitfire wheels, Venture trucks, Panther bearings and the like. We’d go to skateboarding parks with the neighborhood kids and hang out, so you could say there were parks, but it wasn’t like you described by and large.
