Israel-Gaza Megathread #2
This is a refreshed megathread for any posts on the conflict between (so far, and so far as I know) Hamas and the Israeli government, as well as related geopolitics. Culture War thread rules apply.
Many opportunities which would have made the problem more tractable have presented themselves in the past -- now those are passed, and here we are. The current reality is that two (apparently) incompatible groups are claiming the same piece of dirt -- this does not present any obvious solutions.
Yeah, I've been thinking for a while that the MVP (minimum violence product) here would be for the Brits to fire the colonization machine back up, conquer both sides and enforce a democratic one-state solution (with exit rights for those who don't like it). Sadly the time for this has long past as well.

Why are you called The Motte?
A motte is a stone keep on a raised earthwork common in early medieval fortifications. More pertinently,
it's an element in a rhetorical move called a "Motte-and-Bailey",
originally identified by
philosopher Nicholas Shackel. It describes the tendency in discourse for people to move from a controversial
but high value claim to a defensible but less exciting one upon any resistance to the former. He likens
this to the medieval fortification, where a desirable land (the bailey) is abandoned when in danger for
the more easily defended motte. In Shackel's words, "The Motte represents the defensible but undesired
propositions to which one retreats when hard pressed."
On The Motte, always attempt to remain inside your defensible territory, even if you are not being pressed.

Threatening to destroy it and then give it to the side that is willing to leave to save it, is the traditional approach i think.
Or just found a new Christian crusader state so neither Israel or Palestine has what they want.
