Small-Scale Question Sunday for October 22, 2023

Do you have a dumb question that you're kind of embarrassed to ask in the main thread? Is there something you're just not sure about?

This is your opportunity to ask questions. No question too simple or too silly.

Culture war topics are accepted, and proposals for a better intro post are appreciated.

Have you tried using any genealogy database sites like FamilySearch (operated by the LDS, but it's very comprehensive, especially for Anglos)? You might be able to use the info you have to construct a partial family tree and connect it with existing family trees on the site from distant relatives of yours. That might help you find a bunch of people who are still alive.

Haha...i am LDS and familysearch is my katana. I'm trying to see if any cousins have enabled "see me as a live person" on ancestry.com, i guess I've seen that's an option

Even if they haven't, you can search for the dead people on Ancestry and if their descendants were included in family trees then you can message the creator for access to see the living people. Even if they haven't included all the descendants, the creator may have the information themself and you could discuss the medal with them.
