Is that the one where it started out as some kind of heresy and then it kind of solidified into almost an ethnic group long after no one could even remember what the original heresy was? Or am I thinking of something else?
Too early to tell, but the men who built the British Empire are not a point in favour of "too many nannies and tutors makes weak men.”
That’s because if you were in the English upper class, you turned eight and got packed off to an incredibly hard-ass boarding school for 10 years that would make modern military basic training look like daycare. “The battle of Waterloo was won on the playing fields of Eaton”
It sounds to me like they’re people who realized all the nasty anti-life implications of modern left ideology, didn’t realize it was all a big joke for status signaling points and actually started taking it seriously.
That’s the exact same spiel that any good motivated tankie would use when talking about the Holodomor.
I could very easily write you up four different arguments for which country is equivalent to which, depending on the particular political axe you want to grind:
-
Russia is Israel and Ukraine is Palestine (I hate Russia and Israel)— Two countries vastly more powerful than their smaller neighbor carry out a blood-thirsty invasion, then play the victim and pretend they are trying to fight terrorism. The only reason they have any problem with “terrorism” is because they were trying to steal the land in the first place. They loudly propagandize the threat the smaller neighbor poses as a cover for their own imperialist land grab. Both theatrically sob and moan about the terrible horrors they suffered during World War II as justification even though it has nothing to do with the present situation
-
Russia is Israel and Ukraine is Palestine (I like Russia and Israel)— Two strong yet mostly peaceful countries are both antagonized by their smaller neighbor. These small neighbor states are so possessed with bloodthirsty ethnic hatred of their larger neighbor, to the point that they are willing to commit national and ethnic suicide just to spit in the face of the hated larger state. Both the small states commit horrific acts of terrorism, then play the victim when the larger state retaliates to protect its safety. The two smaller states both openly valorize the Nazis out of spite, because the Nazis murdered the hated ethnicities of the large states.
-
Ukraine is Israel and Russia is Palestine (I like Ukraine and Israel)— Ethnic group has suffered terrible persecution in the past during the Holodomorocaust. Ethnic Group decides that the only way to prevent such deprivations in the future is to have a state of their own. They bravely set out to create an independent state. Their neighbor(s) seething with baseless genocidal hatred and justifying themselves with their own completely false historical claims to the land immediately try to snuff out this small base of safety for Ethnic Group. Ethnic Group State fights bravely and secures its existence and independence.
-
Russia is Palestine and Ukraine is Israel (My brain has been melted by years of dank 4chan may mays)— Two based and trad-pilled peoples heroically fight against the evil (((them))). It’s an uphill battle for both of our heroic groups of Chads, because their degenerate enemies are both supported by the hated ZOG empire of America and NATO. For some reason, people keep telling me to “post hand”.
The real best bet would be to just cover it up with dirt and rocks in a way that looks like a natural terrain feature and not a man made facility. But that would be a lot more expensive than scary hieroglyphs and concrete spikes.
Ban them! BAN THEM ALL!
It’s funny how practically every poster on the Motte suddenly turns into SecureSignals when any other tragic mass killing in human history is mentioned. “Only 200,000 Congans died at worst! Mostly from typhus!”
I object to Israel being in the Eurovision contest on the extremely pedantic basis that Israel is not, in fact, in Europe.
People don’t hate bike cuck because he is using a defective utilitarian moral heuristic. They hate him because it’s his bike, and the way he immediately rolls over and justifies his own victimization reeks of weakness.
Yucca Mountain was abruptly cancelled for no reason as soon as the planning was done, $10 billion over decades for absolutely nothing.
On the plus side, they did figure out how to communicate the dangers of radiation poisoning to our hypothetical post-civilizational hunter-gatherer descendants from 10,000 years from now.
Sure the Chinese are not immune to “fuck you, I got mine” but at least in the past they were generally pretty capable of buckling down and sacrificing personal desires for the good of the family or the nation. Whether they still are remains to be seen, that hasn’t been tested on a large scale in quite a while.
The problem is that anything that has a mandatory hearing before the Supreme Court is going to put a massive strain on their case load. Voting Rights Act cases already have this and it’s a huge pain.
World War II is basically the world’s secular creation myth now. Implying that this vastly destructive war that killed 60 million people could or should have been handled differently or, God forbid, avoided is basically heresy. It’s like saying “maybe Pontius Pilot shouldn’t have signed that one guy’s death warrant, because letting an angry mob override the fair application of law and due process is wrong”. In any other context a reasonable and good thing to say; but given the specific chain of events that came after and what they mean, unthinkable.
The number of specific cancellation incidents was fairly low compared to Hollywood and politics. But I do think that was the moment when the vibe turned against the industry. For the twenty years before that, the left basically gave pornography an indulgence to be a morality-free zone due to the industry’s valuable service to the left as a battering ram against Christian morality. Even stuff like extreme racist themes and violence against women was given a pass in the name of kink. The right mostly left the industry alone too because the right was trying to shed the Moral Majority fuddy-duddy image that was beginning to become a liability for them in the 80s. After 2016, suddenly both the left and the right decided they weren’t willing to tolerate all this skeezyness anymore. You never saw much direct action about this because the porn industry is very attuned to cultural vibes and it quickly moved to internally clean up its own image a bit, comics-code authority style.
If I recall correctly, Pakistan’s nuclear doctrine involves using a lot more tactical warheads to offset Indian conventional superiority in the event of an invasion, so their warheads are a lot more widespread and forward deployed. Which would make the possibility of accidentally striking warheads a lot more likely. 4Chan found evidence of US Department of Energy personnel getting flown into Pakistan shortly after the strike. The DoE builds American nuclear weapons so they would be the type of people you would ask to get cleanup advice.
I think some people failed to realize that 3D printers, while useful, were not literally the replicators from Star Trek
I’m not sure it even would be Putin, Xi and the American deep state in charge by then. It’s whoever controls the AIs. That might end up being governments but I don’t think that’s at all guaranteed, especially in the longer term.
Why would it get dark
Because the people who control 99 percent of the wealth of the planet (which no longer requires human consumers or employees), and 100 percent of the military resources (which no longer require human soldiers) will decide that they don’t need 7.9 billion useless eaters crapping up their planet.
Maybe I’m just a cynic, but I don’t think people realize how dark a scenario where 90 percent of people are rendered economically irrelevant could get. I don’t think the first solution contemplated is going to be to start handing out UBI.
I don’t mean pre-modern barbarism in the sense of living in a mud hut banging together stone axes, or in the sense that “they did a lot of bad things, therefore barbarism”. But a lot of naziism does seem like a conscious attempt to try and return to premodern modes of thinking, where the chief’s or king’s obligation is to Protect the Tribe and there are very loose rules of conduct of what you can do to the out group. Now obviously, both Communists and enlightenment era monarchies did a lot of sketchy things too, but there were a lot more mental gymnastics involved in getting there.
And then the people born or with their own formative years between 1900-1914 went on to do it again.
I would argue that WWI killed the enlightenment, and then WWII and the Cold War were struggles over what ideology should replace it.
On the one hand you had Fascism (“screw the enlightenment, let’s go back to premodern barbarism with industrial Revolution characteristics”) and Communism (“We need to just keep pushing the enlightenment as far as it will go. Real enlightenment has never been tried!”). Between 1940 and 1991, both of those proposed successor ideologies failed. It turned out that premodern tribal society with modern technology could get very bloody very fast. And after fifty years of experimentation, it turned out that, counterintuitively, so could enlightenment times ten.
So what that leaves us with is the Bretton Woods ostrich consensus, “let’s uhh... just pretend that whole WWI business never happened and keep muddling on as we were”, where WWII is severed from its connection to war that came before it, and is retroactively portrayed as the enlightenment’s ultimate triumph over the darkness. And as not the obvious result of the enlightenment’s catastrophic failure and collapse. I think it’s no accident that this ostrich consensus came primarily from the United States, the country least affected by either of the two wars.
Basically it means that if the war freezes and then the Russians try to invade again five or ten years from now, whoever is President would have American economic interests and American technical workers in the area that he could (but is not required to) use as an excuse to intervene in the conflict.
I for one like your India-posting, I think it’s an interesting look at a topic that I don’t know much about. I’m referring to a lot of prior posts by other posters about caste discrimination in the context of Silicon Valley tech industry hiring that were an almost bi-monthly feature here for a long time.
And it took a good twenty years to figure that out, the first large scale use of antibiotics didn’t start until 1944.
