Thou shalt pretend that all human subgroups evolved the exact same genetic potential for cognition, and maintain faith that this holy coincidence really is true, no matter how obviously wrong it becomes.
And anyway, that's not the same as trying to create a society where as many people as possible can live in safety, freedom, and peace. Nothing about such a society requires trying to dragoon a proportionately equal share of brain surgeons out of both Koreans and Somalians and then burning all your credibility down when you can't.

Sometimes I wonder if there's anyone left anywhere who actually believes this. Someone believed it fifty or sixty years ago, and every western country has been marching straight into the garbage can after it ever since.

Alas you're right, and it's not like I can afford to spend tens of thousands having ChatGPT Homerize Wikipedia for me. At least this is one of those ideas that will get easier the longer I procrastinate.
And even if you just take a small open source model (or your own toy model trained on TinyStories) and do some post-training fine tuning, you'll still need millions of tokens of training data.
This sounds much more manageable, I'll keep it in mind if I ever start planning to take a real poke at this, thanks.

Sounds more like you brought up subjects (police brutality and sentencing disparity) that had no direct bearing on the topic of HBD in the first place, and are now congratulating yourself for the fact that they are indeed not especially relevant.

I don't know about sentencing, but when it comes to policing you sound a little behind the times, considering we're already well into the era of progressives deeply regretting body cameras.

And I'm saying you'll never get to just do that, and that the suggestion is so detached from reality that I wonder why you would bother making it.
Like what, for the rest of eternity whenever someone brings up disparate outcomes in whatever as evidence that the system is racist, we're supposed to keep the actual reason secret? Because what, it makes some people sad? Just stand around and hope that everyone calling the system racist and using that as a political lever just loses power and goes away?

Oh okay, when a bunch of wokies paint me as Hitler and try to terminate my career because I colorblindly arrested six times as many black guys, or whatever, I'll just pass them a copy of your post. It'll fill their hearts with a sense of civic virtue and society as a whole will decide that actually it doesn't really want the answer to that question after all. Then, finally, at last, no one will "need" the actual answer and you can quit hearing about HBD.

Has anyone here ever played around with training their own language model from scratch? I've been led to believe that it's achievable at only minor expense as long as you don't need your creation to be smart or useful. I've been toying with the idea of at some point conjuring some sort of idiot cartoon character as a pet and then giving it memory and a ton of scaffolding to make it periodically wake up and do things.
The thing is, I don't just want an open source model roleplaying as Homer Simpson (or whatever), I want it thinking nothing but Homer thoughts from the ground up. Honestly some enterprising nerd should start selling them like Pokemon or something. Dopey little models that run locally, use a ton of scripting to act as "alive" as possible, maybe a visual avatar, but no expectation that they'll be able to answer trivia questions or write code.

You don't put people in jail for their genes, just for their crimes. If you do that, you don't need any HBD.
Until five seconds later when someone accuses you of being the Grand Wizard because the people you locked up were disproportionately black. C'mon now, I know you didn't just fall off the turnip truck.

For what it's worth, I think the HBD folks are usually obsessed with IQ in an unhealthy way.
Hey that's not fair, many of us are also obsessed with violent crime rates. That, and how many more decades of complete abject miserable failure on that front it's supposed to take before "anti-racist" views on the subject are considered refuted.

And honestly I haven't seen as much motion as I'd expect on the world interaction front.
Give it a year or three, these things just recently started getting good enough for droids to be viable and nobody wants to fuck it up.
You can judge people for whatever you want, but you're not getting back any of the credibility you shed when policies based on your fantasy view of IQ equality all nosedive into the dirt for generation after generation.
