The rest of the statement sounds like pretty much any politician during a war “we will win by working together”. I don’t think you need anything that dramatic.  You just need to coordinate society such that people who are rude and do disrespectful things are shunned.  If he’d lost friends for doing that he wouldn’t be doing it.  And as long as it’s tolerated it continues to get worse.  My guess is, based on observation, that this isn’t the first time he’s done that.  More than likely he’s been pushing on social norms for a long time and not getting any negative results. In order to blame someone they’d have to have the power to do it.  White Americans did, for example, push Native American tribes onto reservations.  White Southern Americans passed Jim Crow laws.  If you want to blame Jews for the fall of Weimar, they not only have to be there when the gun goes off, but have to be holding the gun.  But, quite often it was other people. So the state department is wrong.  Wouldn’t be the first time, nor will it be the last.


I have a hard time buying that our Atlanticist side of things is getting anything of value out of this war.  The only thing we can really do at this point is act tough and hope the Ukrainians can hold out long enough to make the Russians stop where they are.  I don’t see (at least without NATO boots on the ground) Ukraine actually retaking either Donbas or Crimea.  So the best case is a stalemate that requires us to spend vast amounts of our own treasure to maintain.  And again, this is a fight for basically a rural farming country with a good sized corruption problem.  They’re in it now because they can’t afford to lose face and show the world how weak we actually are.  But at the same time, we cannot infinitely send billions a month in aid.  It just doesn’t work because eventually we run out of money (or print ourselves into hyperinflation) and public patience probably isn’t going to last that long (I think we can probably only keep going for another year or two).


Worse, doing so now reduces those capabilities to use them later.  Ukraine isn’t a prize on the global stage.  Taiwan is.  But after billions in aid to Ukraine, and our depleted weapons stocks and a public not interested in yet another military adventure to a place they don’t care about, they aren’t going to be able to do the same thing again.  Which means that China gets a very valuable piece of industrial infrastructure, the entire computer chip industry, and all of the leverage that comes with it.  We’re basically, without thinking it through deciding to fight tooth and nail for Nebraska and ceding New York. I’m thinking more of a reverse Maoist revolution.  Completely remake the culture, ban the bad stuff and purge those who advocate it from all positions of power. Remove cultural artifacts that promote that same bad stuff.  Promote the new culture:  traditional families, American traditional culture, Christian ethics, and capitalism. Do women from persecuted middle eastern tribes have a reputation for being ugly? I'm not just talking Jews who have obviously been through a particularly weird diasporic selection process, but rather those other small minorities that have hung around in the region for thousands of years. I think breeding beautiful people is actually pretty hard, much harder than breeding smarter people. Perfect features exaggerated just a little too much become very quickly grotesque. Some unions produce beautiful sons and ugly daughters, or vice versa, often precisely because features that work for one sex don't for the other. Then consider the different status red headed men versus red headed women have in contemporary discourse on attractiveness, for example.




For those who stayed within the tribe, I would say yes.  A woman who looks too good would be easily able to catch the eye of any powerful man, and thus would likely use that to their advantage by marrying into the dominant tribes.  A pretty Palestinian girl can get a fairly nice lifestyle upgrade by marrying into an Israeli family. From both sides, it’s now a face-saving thing.  If NATO fails after giving Ukrainians their most advanced stuff, it looks fairly weak.  We’re admitting that our best equipment, our intelligence, and our logistical support couldn’t drive back an army of a country with a third rate military.  This would undermine Western hegemony in other parts of the world, countries would be more willing to challenge us openly, or to create groups that are not aligned with the International Community (which is run by and for the west and runs on westerners rules).  China would be much more likely to try to take Taiwan and continue to try to control the South China Sea.  The Middle East might well dump petrodollars for petro-yuans if the rate is better.


For Russia, their credibility as a cohesive country is at stake.  Putin is playing for an empire, though I suspect he’s also sending a warning to other central Asian countries to not stray too far.  This only works if Putin can take and keep Eastern Ukraine and prevent the rest of Ukraine from joining NATO and the EU.  If that doesn’t happen, he reveals Russia as a weak country that cannot project power to its near neighbors.  Which seems to me to encourage Central Asian leaders to look to other places for trade and support and so on.


I think China wins no matter what as long as the war can be dragged out long enough to deplete our weapons stockpiles. He annexed Donbas and considers them a part of Russia, which makes any attempt to retake them an attack on Russia proper.


The other thing that I think is dismissed too lightly is that him losing the war is likely to be fatal to him.  Russia has a history of killing or deposing rulers who lose wars. Aren’t most of us doing this now?  I mean most people are assuming that this was negligent simply because a shooting occurred.  But my contention is outside of buying a troubled teen a gun and taking him to gun ranges to practice with it (which is negligent) a lot of the things they did would not be that unusual for a family that owns guns. It’s unreasonable to hold someone responsible for choices that other people make unless they’re knowingly making choices that a reasonable individual would see an enabling a crime.  If I leave my keys on the counter, that’s not participating in the roommate using my car to drive to his girlfriend’s house and shoot her.  If I know he’s going to get her in some way and I knowingly give him the keys, sure I get that.  Any person watching would interpret that as me giving the guy the keys to go harm his girlfriend.


I think it has to go through that reasonable man test.  If a reasonable person looks at the situation and says that the parents knew or reasonably should have known that he wanted to kill people, and they knowingly provide him a weapon and ammo and refuse to secure it, yes, they’re involved. But if it’s “there are guns in the house,” not really. In what way?  I don’t know of anyone who takes the idea literally in the sense that they think that there’s a literal perfect [object] in heaven that Al, similar things on Earth resemble.  On the other hand the concept is used quite a lot in mathematics as mentioned below and in law.  We have legal definitions of all sorts of things which is why tomatoes are vegetables in a legal sense. A much better solution is to create a Christian Hasidim which is, in a sense, a nation within a nation. A lot of the social technology they have developed can be grafted into a Christian setting: dress codes, mandatory prayers, mandatory (Christianized) rituals, a strong national identity as Christian Israel (this is already in the New Testament yet simply ignored in today’s theology). You can even gradually introduce Latin as a new internal language. Go back to original Christian house churches and you can reduce your community’s tax burden. Create your own kashrut which must be blessed by a priest. Etc.




We already have this in the form of the Amish and Mennonite churches.  They have their own German dialect, rules, and dress code.  But I don’t think you could completely wall off a community unless you cut off technology.
