We have proven beyond the shadow of a doubt that there is no way to perform executions that will satisfy the critics

It seems more like the current system is a compromise between people who support the death penalty and people who oppose it no matter the method used. But the problem is that you can't compromise between killing people and not killing them, so we ended up just killing them in the least violent way possible, which turns out to be inhumane. The current system satisfies nobody. It's simply very difficult to implement the death penalty in an enlightened society where people have rights. We are too civilized to do it correctly, but too barbaric to give it up.

find some way to botch the aesthetics of the occasion, reveling in low-class pandering and/or ostentatious cruelty.

What other reasons are there for someone to watch a livestreamed execution? I have no problem with this guy being executed, but I also have no desire to watch it, and don't understand why anyone would, other than the gore fetishists who will be jerking off to it. I really don't see why satisfying those people is worth the national security risks of helping to martyr a muslim terrorist, which is exactly what he wanted all along.

This is a win for American democracy

Really more of a win for checks and balances on democracy. These tariffs are a perfect example of how democracy run amok can be destructive. Having the supreme court in place can save the people from their own bad decisions.
