The early adoption on woke maps almost perfectly to the English language capabilities of the population in Europe. Germans aren't the worst but also not particularly good at English so it has noticeably lagged a bit.

"How the hell they would try to make a movie out of this" novels are pretty much the only reason I still read literary fiction. It is an incredible feeling when you realize you are witnessing something that could only be told on paper and no other way.

Apart from the vast wilderness of North America with natural predators (not super relevant because in such places in Europe you can also often own hunting rifles), I have always assumed that this simply has to do entirely with the number of black people around in the US metro areas and the general distrust of large segments of the population towards the government that it will actually protect them from these black people.
Can Americans sanity check me?

Most Westerners won't ever interact with immigrants (or locals when they vacation abroad in poor countries) beyond a context of low-level service industries so food is the obvious thing to associate with them. It is also in the interest of the immigrant groups to hype their cuisine since ethnic restaurant industry is very common way to earn good money if you have no capital/know-how/education that is valid in the new country.
You might also hear from some less educated wanna-be liberal Westerners that "<immigrant_group> works hard and is good at <construction/farm labour/cleaning/etc>" as a praise. But this line of thinking will feel dangerous to higher-mind people as they will recognize they are praising brown people's propensity for mindless drudgery, or at worst a modern system of quasi-slavery quite often.
And almost everything else about any poor immigrant group's culture beyond ethnic food and cheap labour (and maybe fun weddings) will feel very icky to average Westerner so they would rather not think about it beyond any extremely sanitized context like Buddha statues and yoga studios.

There is a large abundance of beginner resources for any language out there, and yes chatgpt is fine for this sort of grammar explanation tasks. But this is not a human tutor that can converse with you or give you reading tasks with a specific goal in mind, noticing and focusing on your weaknesses etc. You have to be your own tutor and can get some help from chatgpt

My benchmark is an actually good language learning tutor LLM. The task seems pretty much perfect for the current crop of LLMs, and there is infinite VC funding for literally anything that involves LLMs. As long as something so obvious isn't mastered yet, LLMs are hardly more than a gimmick imo.

Responding more generally as you seemingly wrote a lot about your life recently here. Specific dating advise is very difficult to give without knowing someone’s social class, personality and appearance. But it’s generally quite important to avoid “over-philosophising” as a guy over sex, women and dating before acquiring some real life experience. You have to build mental models for certain feelings and persons and interactions. Think less, do more, and with time many things that right now you are agonising over will become crystal clear to you.

Grew up in an upper middle class family (to parents who grew up as literal peasants themselves), currently living as what I can best describe as "expat class". Earning money that would make me upper middle class in this country easily, but without easy access to most channels this normally opens up in life.
