I've never heard of it. It's hard enough in my state to get a judge to refer a prosecutor the State Bar.

One has been solo travelling for the past 6 months with no plans to stop, burning through his big tech severance package and savings.

I think this will be my plan if the clankers come for my job (granted, I'm perhaps farther down the list than tech people). If everything's going to shit then I want to see the PCT, CDT, and Hayduke Route, at a minimum.

No one who used to perform dressed like this gets to play the "I'm an anti-Zionist, not an anti-Semite" card.

The virgin Mackelmore vs. the Chad Cruise.

As expected, my body ate itself during my August hike. I hiked the John Muir Trail from Tuolumne Meadows (couldn't get the permit for a Happy Isles start) to Mt Whitney/Whitney Portal in 11 days, which averages to just slightly under 20 miles per day and somewhere around 3,800 feet of accumulated elevation gain per day. Lots of people out there, although I mostly hiked and camped alone because my pace was higher than the vast majority of people. Weather was great, the scenery was spectacular in the second half (too much time in the trees with minimal views in the first half), and I didn't get eaten by a bear (although I startled one and it got somewhat aggressive).

I was eating around 3500 calories/day and lost 18 pounds in those 11 days. The main loss was my waist, thighs, ass, and arms. My dress clothing is a bit baggy now, especially my pants. Back to a rebuild phase...

Congratulations! Very impressive.

After a summer of hiking and associated weight loss, I've built back up to 2x5x290 this week and I'm hopeful for 350ish 1RM in 2 weeks. With some eating and focus this winter, maybe finally to 4 plates.

I'm a little below average height, and I have abnormally short legs and long arms. I'm almost custom-built for squat and deadlift.

I have the tall/all-leg and long arm build, so deadlifts aren't so bad, but squats are forever sad times.

I bet you don't even know how to use the 3 seashells.

I finished my re-read of Hyperion and The Fall of Hyperion. I first read them 20ish years ago and didn't remember much about them aside from the Shrike and big group of travelers. Overall I was disappointed and perhaps there's a reason I didn't remember much about them. The writing style was far clunkier than I expected and Fall suffered from the problem where chapters from different characters' POVs slows a novel to a halt. Fall also felt like he was being paid by the word, such as paragraphs describing something in detail that had already been described in detail. I was invested in some of the characters, but once it became a galactic struggle of humanity against the AIs, I mostly lost interest. Like most books involving some time travel, I'm fairly certain it's not internally consistent, but I don't care enough to reread it again and find the contradictions.

Now reading some silly vampire books. First was Coffin Moon by Rosson, which sold me with its badass cover. Solidly B grade but that's all I expected. Now working on The Dracula Tape from 1975, which retells the Dracula story from his point of view and came out a year before Anne Rice's famous vampire POV novel. It's well-written and captures a good "I'm the poor misunderstood victim" tone without much whining. Next will be Stainless by Grimson, which is a noir vampire book from 1996 that was hard to find for a while until McNally Editions issued a reprint.

Canadian MAID patients would be the obvious source, but those darn tariffs on Canadian goods...

William Marotta is the case you're thinking of, and apparently on appeal the court ruled in his favor.

There were polar bears in Antarctica until the elder things ate them all.

If you wanted to ride the whirlwind, right after she first used the phrase, you should've said something like, "if you play your cards right, I'll show you some white supremacy," and then given her a deadpan-but-menacing look. (@Sloot can undoubtedly provide a much better line).

But seriously, you took the wise course. There is a certain type of woman whose behavior goes far beyond shit tests. It is sometimes presented in the context of "being a brat," but it involves behaving like a poorly socialized toddler and wanting a man who will put her in line. They are not happy unless all interactions are a power struggle where they can try to act however they want and the man has to corral them. Reasoning, cooperation, mutual respect, and the like all mean nothing. For them, a man must be able to make her submit to his authority, or he's weak and not worthy of her.

I have encountered several such women and found interactions with them exhausting. It seems like they are after physical violence (and I don't mean a fun spanking) because the bad behavior reaches a point where a backhand is the only correction. I'm a boring PMC white guy and my pimp hand is weak--using violence to keep a woman in line is not in my DNA. Aside from that, I'd also like to avoid DV convictions.

There is no long-term potential with women like that unless you're Iceberg Slim.

Yuddites is probably the most practical, but I think I prefer the Doomish (and like the Amish, it should always have "the" in front).

I don't know what you're trying to say here.

I wonder if the chudjak bf has an engineering degree. Recently I learned that the "not asking personal questions" thing is a stereotype about engineers.

That kind of bullying is routine in jury deliberations and doesn't rise to misconduct that would void a verdict. I listed a few cases on the issue before when juries were discussed.

I would prefer to be eaten first, not last.

Nor will we ever see such a candidate fail to garner some vague rape claims, often by large numbers of anonymous women.

One exception on this point: Romney.

Every single night, I go to bed feeling full and bloated. I can feel the contents of my stomach and it's uncomfortable to lay down on my back. I end up just laying there uncomfortable as fuck, not being able to fall asleep.

It's funny to read something like this (I have the same problem if I'm trying to eat big) when you can look around and see the average American has apparently no problem eating 3k+ calories per day and feeling full, if not bloated, most of the time. If I do a solid 3 meals per day, I'm still full from breakfast when I'm trying to eat lunch, and still full from lunch when trying to eat dinner. It's uncomfortable at best, but somehow all these people around me have discovered a way to power through...

KISS is fun, right? Everyone likes KISS.

Okay, maybe not, but I think they get way too much crap. Their '74-'77 material has the classic 70s dual guitar sound and is generally fun. Sure, they rapidly descended into rock star excess and became horrible parodies of themselves, but the early stuff has plenty of highlights.

Some videos from The Midnight Special in July 1975:

  1. Deuce. Simmons almost rolls his ankle in his giant boots around 0:07 but recovers, so it's okay to laugh at the almost-disaster.

  2. She. Note Frehley ripping some two-handed tapping during his solo.

  3. Black Diamond. Simmons carefully moving the mic out of the way around 3:25 cracks me up.

I was in undergrad in a small town in a very red state and about to head to class. I checked CNN site's for no particular reason that morning (it was not a habit of mine) and saw the news (when the site finally loaded).

I first thought, "this can't be real, this is from that Tom Clancy book."

Then I remembered the recent Onion article and thought, "well, we're fucked."

My sense is that the social and political capital possessed by these men helped protect them.

I note there's another thing your 3 examples have in common. I don't think that's what protected them, but it's curious that a commonality like that exists among the 3 scenarios that came to your mind.

If by later period you mean '77-79, you're in luck as 2 releases so far have been from '77. Like the Dead, the Can live shows are very improv-heavy, so they're not typical "louder faster sloppier" live albums.

Bronies, channers, anime enthusiasts... I feel like Sam the Eagle sometimes.

Anakin: I'm in favor of community policing.

(filling the other panels left as an exercise to the reader)

This entire thread is reinforcing my already strongly-held impression that if you scratch a mottizen, a brony bleeds.

Learning that there are so many bronies makes me question the time I spend here.
