I've read the rules, I've reread the rules, and I'm pointing out what (to me at least) looks like a disparity in how allegedly inflammatory claims are being treated.
Taffy 3 off the coast of Samar, and the 101st at Bastogne to start.
HBD. Every time.
If you would like to argue that Germans are the runts of Europe and simply genetically predisposed towards losing world wars, i would not argue against you.
They were vastly inferior at warfighting, prevailing through sheer size and resources alone.
Taffy 3 and the 101st airborne have entered the chat.
If this is the case, why were the axis consistently unable to prevail against the western allied forces post '43 even in situations where they had a siginifigant local superiority in terms of men and equipment?
Just so we are both on the same page...
You consider a comment dismissing the voting public as "barely sentient" to be uncontriversial and in-keeping with the spirit of theMotte, including the rule about writing like everyone is reading.
But if I cheekily allude to the publicly acknowledged policies of the outgoing administration, or the plain language meanings of statements made by people like Ilhan Omar, Maxine Waters, and Joy Reid, you will moderate me for being inflammatory and uncharitable?
Is liberalism dying?
I suppose that depends on how you define of "liberalism". For my part I do not think that "liberalism" is dying so much as it is down in the 4th quarter and making what may be its final goal-line stand. Trump and his cabinet (Rubio, Hegseth, Gabbard, Vance, Et Al) seem to be the last defenders of the older, more vigorous variety, of Liberalism championed by historical figures like Adam Smith, George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, and Martin Luther King and exemplified by fictional characters like Steve Rogers and James T. Kirk remaining in the public sphere. Whether they will succeed in keeping the play-off hopes of old-fashioned liberalism alive remains to be seen.
However, if you define "liberalism" as an outward appearance of politeness accompanied by deference towards "experts", "journalists", and other representatives of the priestly caste, I think I have to agree with @Tophattingson below; "liberalism" isn't dying, it is dead. COVID, or more accurately, the priestly caste's response to COVID, killed it. The Priests broke the terms of service and are now they are faced with a war of all against all.
Personally, I'm rooting for the goal-line stand and late game comeback
For all the "I did not have [x] on my bingo card" jokes I've made, I did not have Trump takes over Gaza on my bingo card. My initial response is wonder just how much coke Trump and Rubio did before this meeting, but there are also clear upsides for all involved so maybe this will work out.
I seem to be in the minority, however.
Same.
There are dozens of us, Dozens!
Is it really that inflammatory? It's not like i claimed that the Democrats are "barely sentient" only that they have aligned themselves with some very bad people against interests of the wider nation.
I am honestly kind of surprised that you find this claim controversial. "Why are we shipping pallets of cash to people who wish us dead, and occasionally act on that wish?" has been a boilerplate Republican talking point since the early 2010s and the reply, when the question has been acknowledged at all, has always been something about "decolonization" and spreading "American values" with the implicit understanding that "American Values" are not things like baseball and apple pie, but rather progressive values.
To that end, I want to emphasize that I do not think that Democrats are stupid. But if we assume that Democrats are not stupid, that begs the question of "what are they actually up to?". What is your theory for why the Biden administration so invested in ensuring that niether the Egyptians nor the Isrealis would be able to see what sort of aid we (the US) were supplying to Gaza? Ive already offered mine.
As for Ilhan Omar, this is someone that the Democratic National Convention has chosen to to be associated with. Hers is a constituency that the DNC has chosen to court. I find the whole "it's just some kids on campus" argument significantly less compelling when the notional "kids" are sitting members of congress. Again, i don't think the Democrats are dumb, so what what they actually up to?
Ps: don't try to claim that the linked comment was never reported, I reported it when it showed up in my inbox.
I have some thoughts on that probably deserve a top-level post.
I beg your pardon, this is not a QAnon "hollywood is harvesting adrenochrome from kids at Jonas Brother's concerts" level of schitzo-posting, this is a reasonably normie-pilled "Epstien didn't kill himself", "covid was developed in a Chinese lab" and "the Biden administration built a peir in Gaza because they didn't want the Isrealis or the Egyptians inspecting the crates" level of schitzo-posting.
You're missing some important context.
It is a long running conspiracy theoery open secret that the Democrats and the CIA have been (are?) in the tank with Hamas, Hezbollah, ISIS, the Taliban Et Al. actively working against US/Western interests in the name of "decolonization" and that the primary role of USAID was to "launder" food, fuel, arms, and other forms of material support allocated to these groups while also as serving as a slush fund for various woke causes and NGOs. Ever wonder who was funding all thos migrant caravans? The reason the current administrator presumably doesn't want to turn over the books to Rubio is that is that they don't want the opposition (Ie the MAGA crowd) to know where the proverbial bodies are buried or who to subpoena.
Cheaper goods are only a benefit if employment/real wages either remain consistent or rise. Cheaper goods don't do anyone any good if it comes at the cost of income.
Happy Ozymandias noises.
For all the buzz it gets "defense spending" in the for of tanks, ships, jets, missiles, Et Al is effectively pocket change within the context of total US spending.
The DoD's budget accounts for about 700 billion dollars of the Federal government's 6.9 trillion dollar total, in other words somewhere around 10%. Of that 10% somewhere between 1 quarter and 1 third goes to maintenance and procurement. The remaining balance is going to things like food, wages, housing, medical benefits, the GI bill, etc...
Point being that the US could cut 100% of what most people think of when they think of "defense spending" and it wouldn't make much more than a 3% difference overall.
If its "bogus" why did you post it?
Despite a few obvious errors
Despite the patient's death, the surgeon has declared the operation a success.
What "despite" is there to be had here?
So to support your argument against DeepSeek, you give me some "InstaPundit" slop site, which opens with a citation of Rohan Paul
Tell me you didn't read any further without literally telling me that you didn't read any further.
You accuse Paul of using GPT to pad out his content but what are you doing right now? What is it that they say about people in glass houses?
As for convincing you that I am worthy of a response, you clearly already think I am because you've responded.
There is a joke amongst algorithm developers who specialize in machine learning regarding LLMs. A LLM trained on the full corpus of the internet will inevitably converge on the persona of a mediocre middle manager making edgy comments on YouTube. This has convinced the middle managers that LLMs must be sentient and it has convinced the developers that the middle managers are not.
I note that you still haven't actually made your own argument for why i should be bothered to engage with your bot's output.
I am not Chinese and I am not American.
No, you are Russian if i recall correctly, and Russia is China if you ordered China off Timu and then white-washed it. What is your point?
I know that you know that DeepSeek is throughly compromised when it comes to anything involving China or the Culture War. Why are you pretending that we as readers should take anything it outputs seriously?
I am once again asking the mods that posts of the form "I couldn't be bothered to make my own argument so I prompted a large language model to make one for me" be banned under the "low effort" rule
This appears obviously incorrect. Pretty much the entirely of traditional western morality (and a good chunk of eastern morality) seems to be oriented around reigning in or redirecting our "baser" (ie more animalistic) impulses and intuitions.
Or shot by an intended victim.
especially after a rather muted response to Elon’s choice of hand gestures
As i said last week, anyone who seriously thinks that Elon was throwing a Nazi Salute needs to get thier noses out of the woke left's stash.
You want evidence? Consider that Generalplan Ost coexisted with a German alliance with the Japanese. That the Molotov Ribbentrop pact, coexisted with war on Norway, Poland, and France. If your example European ethnostate actually believed in a unified pan-European "white" race they had an odd way of showing it.
How is this supposed to serve of rebuttal then?
I wanted to highlight this because this is not liberalism. If anything this and the wider concepts of identity-politics and collective guilt are the antithesis old-fashioned liberalism. To the degree that old-fashioned liberalism is "dying" or otherwise on the back foot, it is because the priestly claste (ie the journalists, the experts, academics, Et Al) has not only abandoned old-fashioned "tabula rasa" liberalism, but has spent the last 50 years actively trying to tear it down and discredit it in the name of "progress".
