Fentanyl is only lethal because illegal manufacturers and distributors can't control the dose well enough. In terms of therapeutic index, it's safer than other opiates -- that is, the ratio of a lethal dose to an effective dose is high. The problem is that the absolute amounts of both are low.

Which makes it about 112% THC now, right? If people really did usually smoke low-potency ditchweed, it was before most current smokers were born.

When you see grassroots, suspect astroturf. Someone's propagandizing, organizing, and funding those marches. You'll likely find a web of NGOs behind them, but maybe it won't be opaque enough to hide the (Middle Eastern) state funding.

When Red Tribe starts bombing things and murdering judges, no Blue is going to point to Ayers and Davis and say "well shucks, you got us there". It's going to be different, because it's always different when the outgroup does it. And likewise for Red Tribe, of course.

They won't, though. Red Tribe is just going to quietly go extinct.

Most of these people weren't politically active (if they were even born) when apartheid South Africa existed. And I reiterate oing the whole "a pox on both your houses" thing when one house is clearly more pox-deserving than the other is to support the cause of injustice. I do not believe for a minute the people you refer to are "tired of America being the world police"; those are the isolationists, and they're not the ones who "find some of Israel’s actions and foreign influence questionable at best".

Or, to put it more clearly, you're not fooling anyone.

The entire art world, root and branch, all the institutions and nearly all the artists, is left wing. There's nothing on the right to subsidize.

I don't have a crystal ball. I don't even have the text of the demand sent from the government to the dating sites. But I am certain that if this comes to pass, those who say this won't happen now will be at the forefront of saying the defendant deserves it then.

Are you sure? Because I can easily see this "voluntary" code including mandatory reporting to the government, so after Mr. short-pasty-and-ugly gets shot down (by different women) for the thirteenth time, he ends up facing cyberstalking charges.

The post said:

I want everyone raised up to as close to equality as possible

It's ambiguous as to whether equality is the goal and raising up the desired method, or not. But if it is, then the unsuitability of the method quickly leads to other methods of fulfilling the goal.

It is better for the world to try to work with them, than escalate things into conflict and topple heir countries.

And this is all fine rhetoric if you believe in the Chomskyite "everything is the USs fault" point of view. But looking at how things actually happened instead, we note that it was not the US or the West that tried to topple Russia, but Russia which tried to topple Ukraine.

If a racial spoils system is on the table, and if not for fears of Cancellation, why shouldn’t whites and Asians advocate for themselves instead of bending the knee and washing feet?

Asians are. Whites won't, because for elite whites it's unthinkable and whites for whom it is thinkable for are irrelevant "deplorables" who can simply be shut down by any means available.

Perhaps, in the eyes of some sort of rationalist receptive observer. There aren't any of those around here.

As a Texan who has been a lifelong democrat voter, arresting and charging Abbot with treason over this would force me to swallow my dislike and vote straight ticket republican for a decade until he gets pardoned.

So? Even if your state retains electoral votes rather than being involved in a mini-Reconstruction, Texas was Red anyway.

But arresting a sitting governor who is toeing the line of the letter of the law is not the appropriate escalation for this. Charging him with treason is beyond the pale.

The Democrats have already demonstrated they're willing to go beyond the pale.

I'm already iffy on what's going on with Trump, and he did blatantly attempt to abuse his authority to convince his subordinates to subvert state certifications.

Which is a lot LESS than ordering troops to defy Federal authority, which is just about where we are.

We didn't execute governors when they were fighting for segregation

"We" (Kennedy) Federalized the Alabama national guard and sent in the 101st Airborne, and George Wallace backed down. If he hadn't, he might well have been executed.

Unfortunately the Supreme Court isn't the end of it unless they rule categorically that Trump is and will remain eligible, which seems unlikely. The only real way to do that is are the related, very dodgy "The Presidency isn't an office under the constitution" and "The Presidential oath isn't an oath to support the constitution" arguments. Roberts might like those, but I don't know about the others. If they claim the standard of law used was wrong, the Colorado Supreme Court on remand can just claim that even under the Supreme Court's given standard of law, Trump is out (They can do this whether or not it plainly makes sense or not, as with the various gun control cases following Bruen). Even if SCOTUS demands an actual conviction, Jack Smith can just whip up a DC jury and get one.

You're missing that when push comes to shove, conservatives will not push the fight, and will side with the institutions. gattsuru mentioned above "refuse to be ruled". Well, suppose one were to do that by violating one or more of these gun regulations. And one were to get caught, and the state to come down on you like a ton of bricks. What would a conservative who previously advised "refuse to be ruled" say about that? I'm fairly sure it would be something along the lines of "play stupid games, win stupid prizes". Conservatives who can get guns because they're in a community where guns are a thing and they can jump through any hoops the state puts in their way anyway treat gun rights like a sort of intellectual game; they want to make the point that they have the right to keep and bear arms. But they don't give a shit about it being enforced in other communities that are more hostile to gun rights. That's why, for instance, there's been no move to challenge the interstate purchase rules.

All the US has to do is start trying and they could swiftly impose a peace deal. Israel would quickly fold since it's a small country and can't sustain itself in the face of South-Africa style economic and diplomatic suppression. The credible threat alone would almost certainly be enough to achieve a two-state solution.

Yes, but the US doesn't want the two states to be Hamas and Fatah.

Because to the Palestinians, Palestinian land is "from the river to the sea".

Now you're suggesting a grenade?

In short, you just agreed with me. I didn't say they'd be convicted (though I have less confidence in the Australian justice system than you do, and inferring the mens rea from the actus rea is something courts do all the time), I said they'd face charges.

workers create value for society beyond what they pay in tax to the government.

Ah, that wonderful abstraction, "society". Show me, if I'm the guy having to pay all the taxes to pay for their kid's schools and playgrounds and free lunches and whatever, how that value gets to me?

their children are also going to grow up to be taxpayers

Or they'll be welfare recipients. But I think it's better to consider this on a current cash basis, the future being notoriously hard to predict.

Do you think that people want to be fat and unhealthy?

They prefer being fat and unhealthy to eschewing the pleasures of eating whatever the fuck they want.

BC stocks soared, DC they plummeted.

They plummeted and recovered during COVID, then fell After Trump.

Do you mean my priors that Democrats haven't achieved One Party status and will not win forever and ever? No, Biden winning again would not convince me I'm wrong about that.

Then you have no intellectual skin in the game; you are asking me to commit to abandon my position while making no commitment to accept it.

Everyone remembers that, but forgets the centuries where the lords and nobles had peasants executed for any offense or no offense. It's bad to be on top come the revolution, but good every other time.

Unlike you who want an one sided perspective, I am not going to defend the Russian invasion.

You're just going to ignore it and advocate for the US and the West to also ignore it.
