Assuming that scenario, you take as much territory as you can while still getting an agreement, and then you implement a campaign of soft ethnic cleansing and population transfer. Make it shitty and annoying to be a Ukrainian in what is now going to be Southwest Russia. Make it terrifically easy and trivial to get a bus, train, or plane out of there. Make it impossible to return. Build a defensive line in the most defensible terrain, being prepared to sacrifice indefensible portions of your new territory if/when there is another round of fighting.

Smart thing would be to have each unit have a concrete waterproof curb around the perimeter and multiple drains throughout. Preferably some large drains such that blocking them would be an actual challenge.

And why should they get worse? No one has explained why replacing an incompetent bureaucracy should make things worse.

Why not? It's very simply: You've been given a sugar pill or other harmless pill (red pill) and what is potentially a poison/suicide pill (blue pill).

Under what circumstances (other than wishing to die) does it make ANY sense to take the suicide pill? Everyone has been given the gift of life via the red pill, why reject it? And if you do reject it, why would you expect anyone to think you're moral for doing so?

So unemployment dropped from the heights of the Great Recession to a still rather high figure. Great job, Obama.

I don't see how that would work. Texas isn't taking down Federally placed border control obstacles or taking control of border crossing checkpoints. They're simply installing more obstacles on the border. Is your supposition that this would inflame California to take down Federally placed obstacles (fences, walls) and to evict the Federal Border Guards from the crossing points and just throw them open? Because that's a whole level of escalation that I don't believe is even plausible at this time.

They absolutely had a choice. They made the choice to be gay, and not just homosexual, and that was a political act of their own free will.

Either way, my moral intuition was always that it was pretty obviously stealing to pirate music, movies, or software.

So when I steal something, I have taken something from someone else. They no longer have that item. When I pirate media, what is taken? What have I deprived someone else the use of?

No. It is, in itself, evil. Even if never acted upon.

I donā€™t think anyone supposes that Putin is a benevolent leader.

I donā€™t see Ukraine being particularly worse under Russian suzerainty than under some other conditions. Itā€™s never going to be paradise.

Reagan failed to roll back any of the 'civil rights' era disasters in any significant way. At a minimum, he should have been able to end with a period all of Johnson's "Great Society" nonsense, and destroy the entire 'civil rights' apparatus that had been built. Instead we got modest tax cuts and huge military spending.

Elon has ten kids from adult to under 2ā€¦. Calling him an incel is literally retarded. Clearly this is not a man who lacks for sex.

It is generally considered more bad to be evil than stupid or incapable

In general. But if you put an incompetent in charge of a country and they incompetently unintentionally cause the deaths of 10% of the population, that's not better than if Genghis Khan conquered your country and exterminated 10% of the population on a whim.

By definition, if these people believe in the power of these specific rituals to get you into heaven, then don't 99% of all living humans go to not-heaven. (hell?). Even if these in-laws are right, then surely a place where 99% of people go after death, can't be THAT bad.

If weā€™re broad and say Christians can be saved, itā€™s historically been perhaps 20-40% of world population. Thatā€™s not nothing.

Further, as Catholics we believe that Christ descended into Hell after his crucifixion and proclaimed the good news to the just dead.

That modern people have chosen to reject the Church or even the heretical sects, doesnā€™t speak to whether the Truth of Christ is true.

But what you were saying is he doesn't deliver on things... not that you don't like the things.

Have your citizens grow fat, lazy and unwilling to risk their lives, especially in far away wars that they see no benefit from anyway

The fun part is they can probably recruit enough citizens to fill the military, but only if they weren't actively repelling the half of the country that is patriotic and nationalistic.

Right, so we're banning all soccer balls with a diameter under 6 feet. What? The sport can continue, just in a slightly altered form.

I would disagree and say you are the one playing a semantic game here.

Taking implies that there is some thing (item) which you now have which no one else can now have because you have it.

That is simply impossible in the case we're talking about.

This also leads me to wonder, though, is there information out there which ISN'T digitized and accessible on the internet? That simply can't be added to AI models because it's been overlooked because it isn't legible to people?

There is actually a ton of information that has not been digitized and only exists in, for example, national archives or similar of various countries or institutions.

I hadn't actually realized that this was the case until I started listening to the behind the scenes podcast for C&Rsenal - they're trying to put together a comprehensive history or the evolution of revolver lockwork, and apparently a large amount of the information/patents are only accessible via going there in person.

Are you saying that the rape of children is not an inherently evil act? Iā€™m not sure how I provide evidence for this. Is a simple moral fact not enough?

Grilling or barbecue?

Yes, that's why no New Jersey politician will ever be President again.

the fascist government in Finland fought on for an additional 3 years after VE day.

So... the Finns called WWII the Continuation War, e.g. a continuation of the 1939-1940 Winter War. They signed an armistice with the USSR in September 1944. Which is a a solid 8 months before VE Day.

I'm less up on Finnish internal politics of the period, but I think a lot of them would take issue with calling the Finnish wartime government "fascist."

The expansion of human civilization to other stars will not be pioneered by lone adventurers or merry bands of hardy explorers, like we imagine the voyages of Erik the Red or Christopher Columbus. This works for interplanetary space, but not interstellar space, whose travel time will require multiple generations of people to survive a journey, including on the first try. Interstellar travel will need to accommodate not just adventurous young men with nothing to lose, but also women, children, and the elderly. In other words, a whole society. The existence of a society always implies the existence of a government.

I kinda expect it to be an ethno-religious group like the Mormons in the Expanse. Someone rich enough, organized enough to pull it off.

Not everyone is sane, not everyone clicks the option they mean to click, not everyone is literate, and so on. It is, for all intents and purposes, guaranteed that "everyone can simply choose to live" is wrong.

The premise nowhere states that people will not have what is going on explained, or only explained via text, or have the choice made via mouse click. You are introducing new premises from thin air to aid your bad arguments.

In summary, this is a bad faith argument.
