First, I want to say that I think the mainstream response has been extremely out of whack compared what actually probably happened. But I don’t agree that there weren’t any mistakes made by the men involved here. It may not have risen to a crime, like the DA said, but it was still something they should not have done.
My understanding is that some of the men, particularly those who came later, chose to partake in the activities knowing that she was completely out of her mind on drugs. That’s a lot harder to defend because it’s probably a textbook scenario covered in the student handbook. Yes, they may have been intoxicated too, but I think more agency should be afforded to the initiating party in these types of situations. Even if they truly didn’t intend to take advantage of her, which is a big IF, I think they should have recognized the situation and not have placed themselves in it. Or chose to take less drugs if the intoxication prevented them from making good decisions later. The same goes for Jane Doe.

How does Scott’s tweet relate to AI safety and Yudkowski? I’m missing the broader context.
Thanks for explaining. I didn't know there were weird sex stuff happening around AI safetyists and EA people, so I didn't recognize the Yudkowski -> Jesus comparison in Scott's tweet. I thought he was just making some weird joke about Christians. Now it makes sense.
