That said, I do think Trump and co. would be in prison right now in a functional system that didn't provide infinite deference to people once they accrued a certain amount of popularity or capital. If I took documents without the black band on them out of the building they were in I would not see daylight for a LONG time; if I then refused to cooperate with the feds I would 50/50 be fucking dead.

Whenever it does come up, I often wonder how one would separate the useless, lazy, stupid jobs from the essential ones. When I was younger I held a similar view, but over time I realized that the single strongest predictor for whether I thought a job was bullshit or not was how little I knew about its actual day to day work.
By and large and also unfortunately: The bullshit is distributed throughout the system at different levels of concentration.
When I did Labor, my job (based on what I was compensated for) was about 20-30% bullshit; given that that was how much my paycheck reflected massaging the owners ego vs. actually doing stuff; but I did actually do stuff all day.
I've also had an office job that was more like 90% bullshit; I mainly read ebooks while pretending to do email bullshit, but there was an occasional critical task that needed me specifically. I could Have been in the office for 1 hour a day with room on both sides; but the owner needed me there for 8 hours in order for his dick to feel big.
There are probably jobs out there that are 99% bullshit, and 1% irreplicable and critical process knowledge that shuts the plant down for a week if the one guy who sits on a stool spitting sunflower seed hulls everywhere like a god damn savage leaves because he is the only one who knows what that sound means.
Fuck the GOP. They should be in prison or in a care home at this point; the Maggots especially. We need an entirely new conservative wing that at least gestures at interacting with reality instead of tilting at not even windmills; at this point they are fist-fighting imaginary bugbears.
It turns out you can't run a country based entirely on having a victim complex and a dream, even if you accidently hit on a real grievance like immigration, you need to at some point make contact with the world as it is instead of the world as it makes you feel good.
EDIT: I throw myself on the mercy of the crowd, ya'll caught some blowoff from a mothersday family gathering where all the libed out retired professionals and leftist current graduates were observing the traditional detente, but the foxnews-ite conservatives refused to take a hint to the point where they were exiled to the outer darkness (disinvited from memorial day, such that they might learn.)
I was hanging on by a thread, you don't understand the level of autistic restraint required to not go off on a motherfucker who doesn't know what the word 'litoral' means, but has lots of opinions about combat in that particular zone which she will just not shut the fuck up about. More investment talk as the thread dies: I posted earlier about some short term funny money gambling I did on the US administration stepping on their own balls before falling into a ditch re. the Middle east because every Republican gets at least 1, I present to you another such case:
I keep a fairly large amount of money in foreign currency not as an investment but just to have available to use out country should I need it. My euros (tourist fun bucks) have been doing well as Trump weakens the US economy in relation to the world but not that well, more of a medium well. My other currency I keep a decent chunk of from the old country has been blowing the fuck up. I have made almost 100% gains on this bitch just for having it, I am up more than $70000 just on the currency, I don't even know how much the property has gone up.
Nowm the culture war angle, which I didn't understand when I was a brokie (Read: had a job the contributed to society positively in any way): I can see why people with huge amounts of liquid capital would want someone like trump, even if he was obviously going to shit up the economy he is in charge of.
If you are wrong and he doesn't shit it up, geat! You make money normal style! If he shits it up just a little, great! The proles get hungry and lose their bargaining power! If he fucks it up a TON, great! You can take advantage of the motion to get opportunities you would never receive in a well functioning system!
And on top of all that, he promises you spoils; you can just ignore anti trust if you bow a scrape, you can count on a reduced tax burden and a less well off population that is easier to exploit, you can count on him not actually fucking with the immigration that you REALLY need to keep the wheels turning.
All this is predicated on the Democrats being Republican lite Regans with little rainbow flag tie pins; that they aren't going to storm back into office like TR and bust the shit out of you, but that seems like a safe bet. The party machine is so outrageously cucked they can't even be properly anti-war or anti-elite, even though both those positions are wildly popular in both bases.

Just as women demanded that traditionally male privileges be redistributed fairly; men must demand that traditionally female privileges be redistributed fairly.

This will only happen when

At the moment, Men are the ones who are in their feelings about everything, 'Wah wah wah dating is hard, my wife is legally allowed to leave me if I beat her, I'm lonely, I want cheap treats but also I want my job to be easy and pay well and everyone should respect me'.
Real I want all my groceries in one bag but I don't want the bag to be heavy behavior.

I am using hyperbole for comedic effect, but to explain myself:
I believe that someone's qualities, their value, even their actions, should be decoupled from their moral weight; while simultaneously reckoning with the fact that some people are just lesser than.
Any moral, aesthetic, or effective judgment of anyone or anything is de facto placing them on a ranking. I don't just think I have different opinions than my political opponents, I am fundamentally BETTER than them as a human; and there are people that are fundamentally BETTER than me, who are purer of spirit and bigger of muscle and brain; even though we all deserve the same amount of moral consideration.
I think one of the places that some heinous behaviors spring from is the false consciousness required to believe that everyone deserves equal treatment because we're all the same in the end. No! The deontological value comes first and stands alone, the other things are all head measuring and have no effect on the first thing!
It's not going to happen of course and I only use my specific autistic terminology on these websites for a reason, but it is a coherent view IMO.

Imagine a heavy tank chassis, with armor blessed by the hand of Stalin himself, so strong you needed to put the open end any self propelled direct fire gun the Nazi's had (at the time, don't bring up the panther or the later stugs) right up against it if you wanted to MAYBE get through. It is fast enough on the advance, given its weight. It has excellent clearance and doesn't sink in any mud because it's so chonky.
On top of this Chassis, put a fat boy humorously square turret, and inside this turret place a 152mm gun. Anything it hits even kinda close to is immediately rendered into its constituent molecules.
Unfortunately, this bitch is so fat that the best its engine can manage is a brisk jog, it's various sprockets exist in a state of infinite agony, screaming as the shortest but widest conscript they could jam through the hatches shifts it by putting both feet on the lever and leg pressing it into gear, all while being visible from the next country over on account of being as big as a house.
Even with all that, it's so tough that on at least one occasion it gets its tracks blown off and just sits there, getting shot at for a couple days until it finally runs out of ammunition.
It's the dumbest tank that ever actually put in good work in a real war, and lives on in fond memory.

Suppose that I believe that Republicans (or Democrats, pick your poison) are all either not paying attention (ie, Stupid) or actually are all in on the party platform (ie, Evil). Why would I ever want to date someone I think is a lesser human than me?
Putting "No X" in the profile just saves time and effort for everyone involved.
Semi related: It's probably an artifact of the weirdly mixed politics of the area that I live, but even the apolitical women I know have started putting various flavors of "I think Trump is stupid and his followers are cultist idiots, if this offends you then fuck off" instead of "No republicans", simply because that filters out a good chunk of men that are a problem to date.
It really is an open field for women willing to tolerate conservatives in high income areas, they get to pick out of a huge lineup.

If it was a grand building, maybe; buts it's going to be a tasteless young money rapper level shitbox. We've seen what Trump thinks is beautiful, and it is universally a hideous afront to the western tradition.
The reasons are different though: The people who hate Trump hate Trump for doing the things he promised he would do; the people who hate the Dems hate the Dems for not hating Republicans enough. If gruesome newsome came out on stage shirtless smeared in mud and declared he would bite the pancreases out of every republican in congress before drop kicking a goat into a woodchipper, his approval would go UP.
