What are all you guys going to nutritionists and chiropractors and so forth for? Doesnt all that stuff just happen automatically if you eat right and exercise?
I can see a reason to go get cancer, heart, etc, screenings starting at a certain age, but I actually am quite confused why a healthy lifestyle 20-50 year old needs doctors at all beyond screenings and acute things.
Having read the article and looked at the pictures you linked about the "MAGA themed party", I completely disagree with your quoted description. It is very clear to me that this was a country-themed birthday party for her mom and that the supposedly MAGA comes from hats that read "Make Sixty Great Again". This is a play on pop culture, not a theme. If anything, MAGA-adjacent paraphenalia seems more likely to have been worn as a satire of rural rubes who genuinely support the idea.
Are the people who criticized her for it extremely ridiculous? Was Sweeney's tweeted, purposefully vague response absolutely delicious in its commitment to nonspecificity? Is the ridiculousness of the online reaction an exhibit for my theory that Sweeney is especially a target of women haters due to the prominence of her boobs? Yes, yes and probably.
I think that part of the backlash is simply because a lot of people started out primed with a disdain for Sweeney, mainly because of the perception that her popularity is driven purely by her looks, namely her curves. My wife got mad when I said I thought she was great, but my position was that at that point she had pretty much been 2/2 on starring in absolutely amazing shows (Euphoria and White Lotus 1), and she did a commendable job in the movie about Reality Winner. Of course, now that Anything But You has happened (and I love rom coms!), I kind of have to retract my "will watch anything she stars in" position. To me, the Sweeney brand was initially about absolutely impeccable taste, but people who did not appreciate her HBO shows do not realize this.
I understand liking the Kamina-centric beginning, but more than the deranged crescendo of stakes in the second half?
I feel like jokes about political correctness are somewhat peak 1990s... but I'm happy to cede something along the lines of "If we only knew...".
What are some of these freedoms that an older person might be missing out on?
I am confused what the complaint about the episode was and what subtext was occurring. It does not seem to me that the episode was any more subtle than that "The Nazis are bad guys, and the bad guys are Nazis".
No, I mean there is a 2-3 bedroom apartment and 2 or even 3 people live in it. Like on Friends!
Are roommates just not a thing at all anymore, or is anyone with one now undateable? If so, is this because of the current lack of roommate-driven sitcoms starring attractive people a la Friends?
I feel like "housemates" is still pretty dateable, especially in expensive cities.
Hmm, an obvious failure mode to social conservatism sounds like it would be a state weighed down by elder care, which is not too far off from describing most of the world's advanced economies, and the problem is very much getting worse.
Elsewhere, someone else talked about a marriage needing to be in service of something greater than the marriage. To many social conservatives, it seems like the answer to this is a deity. To me, it seems like you should just be able to make the marriage in service of the children. On an overall societal level, I would criticize both liberals and conservatives as failing to prioritize the future, progeny, etc, and wish there was a way to get this to happen.
If 50% tariffs have been painless
Most global trade is via ocean freight, which is fairly slow. Domestic supply chains and inventory turnaround time delay the impact further. I would consider most data on final prices to very much still be pre-tariff, especially since headline series like the CPI/PCE are still only through May. The big data tests for the tariffs implemented in April will probably be for June and July data over the coming weeks, but even then the metals tariff increases to 50% didn't take effect until June.
Hard to say without the quote, but it wouldnt be surprising if Levine is just making fun of Elizabeth Holmes.
I had bad drywall subs, so I am not sure. Theoretically, a high quality drywall crew would work faster (so not a big cost increase) and cleaner, but drywall is considered shitty entry level work so it is very hard to find a high quality crew.
But basically what happens is that the painters blame the trim (who blame the drywall) or drywall people who blame the framing (which cannot be redone), counting on you and GC to just run out of patience. GCs dont think drywall is real work, so they sub it out without much quality control. Also, at this stage the GC is counting money and will probably try to get some margin by cheaping out on drywall. Results are probably a lot better with new construction than remodel.
On building or remodelling, what I will say is that one of the absolute most visible parts of the work is the drywall/trim finishing. Most GCs sub this out, and most subs are horrible. Since this is close to the final stage of construction, it is hard to have the patience to make them do it right, but it is what you will notice every day even if the rest of the work is great. If a remodel, the drywall stage is an absolute nightmare due to the obscene amount of dust that low quality contractors create. I recommend stressing to GC that professional drywall finishers are a must.
I mean, everything tends to work out when you are wealthy!
I think the idea of pregnancy "really fucking up" one's life is more for when your daughter is 16-22. Starting a family at 25 sounds like an okay recipe for success, but the person in the article was not pregnant.
But people also use it to re-load for parties, go from the store to their event, enjoy their new beer when they get home, etc.
What does the existence of no fault divorce have to do with all of this? Your point seems like a slam dunk with just 1, 2 and 4.
One obvious move is to just get rid of the marriage penalty on taxes. But... here we are seriously looking at getting rid of taxes on tips.
Didn't both Romney and Obama stake a claim on the technocrat lane? Wasn't the argument for Hillary supposed to be her competence? Biden's first term was initially supposed to be a return to the technocracy of Obama even though he [by which I mean Biden] turned out to not be that at all.
Let's say you are the shadow dictator of the Dems. How exactly do you message that you are going back to the "Hey let's be competent technocrats" strategy.
I would say Buttigieg'a initial rise was more that he was a young mayor in a midwestern state. It would have been a nice story, but it is also the case that everyone realized that a gay candidate would be unelectable in the general even if they never said it.
Yeah, but finding that ideal (or a pretty good one with whom you form an emotional bond or simply have some hot experiences) sexual partner is a pretty key part of the human experience. Continuing to look even while failing is too!
This is not the first time I have seen the idea that HD porn obviates sex. While ceding that people have limitless access to porn these days, it still doesnt come close to the real thing!

Forget ethics. This seems like a huge financial loss. With AI, there is at least the argument that the AI will be able to scale infinitely once trained. This does not seem true of the clone or whatever.
